Err... Leliana hears voices in her head which she claims belongs to the Maker and is bipolar when it comes to the killing (why spare one person when you killed 50 of his friends?). Really Alistair is the closest person to normal in the entire game.

Yes, but that's fine. Issues are perfectly allright in my book. Sebastian is not an escaped and haunted tevinter slave with so much baggage and emotional scarring he needs Dr Phil. Nor is he an abomination who's sole goal in (un-)life is to destroy trans-continental religious institutions. Sebastian is at least human. The LI pickings for (straight) FemHawkes is a cirkus. I hope to the Maker that Lankester Merrin is standing by in the next room after recruiting Anders

Hello Dragon Age 2 fans.

Happy Valentine’s Day to one and all. We know many of you have romance on your minds today, so we thought we would confirm for you the potential romance characters in Dragon Age 2.

You can choose to romance:
Isabela
Fenris
Merrill
Anders

Keep in mind that all Dragon Age 2 romances are optional, so you can choose to follow these subplots or not as you prefer. All four NPCs also have other non-romance subplots that you can again choose to follow if you want to learn more about these characters. To learn more about the romances, you will need to play Dragon Age 2.

So, if you are romantically inclined during your Dragon Age 2 playthroughs, you now know who you can pursue. Pitch your woo accordingly.

I remember a little  over a year ago, a few weeks prior to ME2 launching, there was this guy who worked at Bioware and posted this seemingly frustrated post about people begging for a Tali romance option. He pretty much confirmed that Tali wouldn't be romanceable. Then, when the game launches, she was. Oh man, what was that guys name? Pris Chriestly? Hris Piestly? Oh god it's on the tip of my tongue.

Keeping the surprise for player is way more better than announcing it on forum in my opinion :police:

I'm just saying, if that guy were to make a post about Romance options again, I probably wouldn't take his word for it.

So.... a schizophrenic psychopath abomination and a ridiculous J-pop "ooh, I'm a troubled elf who's been mistreated by humans" freak are the two LI for the girls?

It seems that love is a niche market in BioWare's eyes. An utter disappointment. I'm actually quite pissed off. Who are they targeting?

Hey, I happen to like schizophrenic psychopath abominations!  Ask my husband!

Besides,  there'll also be either a pirate (shiver me timbers, anyone?), or ... well, another troubled elf who may have been mistreated by humans. But a smaller, cute one without a lyrium condition. Besides, normal, unproblematic, emotionally stable LIs tend to = Jacob. Not the priiiiize I'm looking for.

You don't think LI:s like, for example, Alistair and Leliana were more easily accessed to players who weren't mindless JRPG-elf fangirls? There was backstory there, and complications with their previous lives, but without them being the biggest freaks on Thedas. I'm all for complicated characters, but why can't they create characters who won't immediately put people off with incessant brooding and pointy ears?

My lawful good FemHawke will just have to go through ten years without love, only stealing glances at Sebastian

Alistair the virgin Templar bastard prince puppy dog? I'll grant that he was the most 'normal'. And to be honest I probably wouldn't have romanced the character without Steve Valentine's voice being so adorable. But Leliana? She an assassinating, religious vision-having, shoe-fetishising freak! In the best possible way, of course.

Anyway we don't know how this will play out in-game. Anders at least was a pretty regular bloke until he joined with Justice and things got complicated, maybe there'll be a way to help him. And Fenris might be more than meets the eye. Besides, someone'll do a romance mod for Sebastian. Your FemHawke won't be loveless for long, I bet :)

If you're not willing to give them a chance then it's your loss, really. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I thought similar thoughts about Fenris when he was first revealed, but I decided to not write him off until I got to know more about him. And he keeps growing on me with every new piece of info released. I don't know if I like him yet because I still feel there's not enough I know about him for me to judge one way or another, but I'm definitely intrigued by him. In any case, I'm not ruling out any of my options just yet.

As for Anders... I'm not giving up hope that the old Anders is still in there, gritty reboot or not.

Yes, Leliana was all that (and more). She definitely was not without her own "demons". But, somehow, I don't put that on the same level as having Lyrium burnt into your flesh by your sadistic slave master, being on the constant run from assassination squads. Nor do I find that comparable with going around with a Demon controlling you to go on a killing spree. None of what I read on page 1 about Anders leads me to believe that the old goofy and charming Anders will be there to attract my FemHawke.

I don't know... :( I guess my hopes were unreasonably high

I used to feel exactly the same, but 'the prize', line aside, Jacob does nothing wrong... nothing, it is all down to Hale's voice acting at the start of the romance that causes the    factor...... Jacob is a decent LI tbh (he isn't no.1 imo neither is Thane or Garrus, but he is OK)  he has a great voice and is acted very proficiently by Adam Lazarre-White :) and it is a shame he has been judged one one bad line.....
Anyway back on topic...... (though it was still sort of on topic anyway) Thanks for the reveal Chris, this ends all the speculation threads, lol and we can all start to get geared up for what to expect from DA II.
I am happy with the choices but wondering who out of the two will become my regular choice, love Zev but never able to resist Alistair, so very interested to see which one will become my own personal default after trying both Fenris and Anders :)

Rompa, I feel for you, I really do. But don't give up hope! Goofy Anders is in there, just with some weird .. urges. Maybe you can chain him up, like with Oz in Buffy. And Fenris could be remarkably paragmatic about all the - er - flesh-burning and constantly being hunted thing, and ends up being positively ordinary! I bet that's cheered you up, no? :P It could be all of us oddball lovers that end up being disappointed with a cast of total non-weirdos!

Jenova - sorry, I was sort of exaggerating there. I also liked the actor's voice, and agree that Jennifer Hale did that particular romance no favours at all. Though Jacob as a character still nowhere near as interesting as the various aliens.

Yes, people are unhappy about Fenris mostly because he is an elf :(

Well there's that and I want nothing to do with the "Fenris thread version" of Fenris derived from their communal speculation.  Since all I know is he's an escaped slave elf warrior, and not much more about him beyond the fact he is an elf, and I generally dislike them - my current position is unenthusiastic.  But that can and likely will change.

Pretty much this, except the general dislike for elves.

What drew me to Fenris was Gaider saying he wanted a more stoic character. Stoicism is characters are always interesting to me.

I'll just slap some paint on his lyrium scars, make him wear platform shoes and tuck those ears under his (dyed) hair. ^_^ Maybe even replace the lyrium by branding him with liquid stoicism

There, a reasonable LI

Something tells me Anders won't survive my playtrough of DA2.

Abominations murdering Grey Wardens and templars alike, and drinking blood...not a reliable party member. Who knows, there might be a way to get the demon out of him, but really, Anders was a tool to begin with, so I don't think I'll be taking any risks to save him.

Whats all this Elvenaphobia? ? When did that become a thing? I though Elves were popular no? Trees , forests, in touch with nature, nifty with their hands and feet, cute eyes...what's not to love there? I thought anti elvenism was only coming from working class human guards in Ferelden?

Im not 100% sure how I feel about this. On one hand, Im cool with only having 2 options. It means that there can potentially be more time spent "fleshing out" their backgrounds and/or personal demons. Yet, on the other hand, I can't shake this "Obi-Wan Kenobi" feeling Im getting that "Less" in this area is going to equal "Less" in other areas of the game as well. I hope that part of me is wrong. Because DA2 is going to be the deciding factor as to whether or not we're buying DA3.

The article in this months GI magazine that covers the first 5 hours of gameplay seemed really promising (I dont want to post it because there are quite a few spoilers in it.) but Im hoping that it's not the "Best" part of the game.

I dislike elves with an inexplicably disproportionate passion. I think they look ridiculous, have been portrayed as whiny victims, are too Tolkienesque and serve as a pandering to mindless cosplay fangirls who want to dream away.

None of my reasons are fair or a correct depiction of reality, I'm sure, which is why I said it was inexplicable and disproportionate. :P

I just find myself with an aversion to them

Actually, the only 'good-aligned' game character that I've ever wanted to kill was Aerie in BG2, and for exactly the reasons you just mentioned. Thought Zevran was alright, though, so I'm not too concerned about Fenris.
