I would've thought that with the voice protag there would've been more playable characters this time and/or more romances. But maybe I was still thinking Mass Effect (which increased companions from the first to the second).

Fewer is potentially better though just do to the distribution of resources. Yes ME2 had more LI's but the romances themselves were all shorter and a bit more shallow than the ME1 or DAO romances.
Given the complexity of the romancable characters this time around it's probably better that it be limited to just the four.
Of course there still hasn't been any official word on whether DLC characters will ever come with romance options so who knows,  just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it never will.

Er, how can you not see this as offensive? The quote says "Fenris looks gay," with a few extra words thrown in there.

Only someone that is uncouth and lives under a rock could say or think that without knowing that it would be offensive to other people.

How is saying Fenris looks gay offensive?

First, it sets up the idea that there is a way of looking that is "gay."  I know a lot of gay men.  Most do not fit the stereotypical idea of "looks gay."  I also know straight men whom people assume are gay because of their appearance.  How is that not offensive?

Try replacing a word.  Would it be offensive if the sentence was "Fenris looks Jewish"?

Oh i agree :lol:I said quoted for truth.

I have never met a person that is homosexual, but i would def want to. All of my friends are like "Ewwww!" mostly when i comes to men, but when they talk about women, they are all like "Ummm...sexy!". Everyone should be free to do whatever they want, and this thing exists for thousands and thousands of years already...still we "modern" people can't accept it. How emancipated we are!

Not to mention the people who whine about Izzie's lost pants. Okay, she does not wear pants. How many singers that are in prime time at the tv do NOT wear pants? It's not like she is naked in a child game...It's rated mature, so act like you are mature. Or don't play the game at all.

Seriously?

Try defining what a gay man should look like.

Handsome, muscular, good taste in clothing, stylish looks, able to dance.

Can't do that with getting into some stereotypes, which is a nasty thing. No one likes being labeled.

So I guess this show was reviled by the gay community?

Posted Image

As this one for its promotion of queer stereotypes:
Posted Image

And gay men have never taken pride and reveled in the various gay male stereotypes while lesbians have never enjoyed that they were butch.

Moreover, acknowledging that there are stereotypes about various sexual minorities and that characters in books, movies, and video games are sometimes coded with these traits is offensive. Of course, we've now stripped most pre-modern art of homosexuality, but that's fine.

There was no homosexuality in the 1960s Spartacus movie because you'd have to rely on gay stereotype to read anything into Laurence Olivier's performance. Oh, and Cauthrien-Zeta Jones came up with the idea to make Theodora a bisexual woman. There was certainly no sexual subtext between the female leads in 1963s film or the 1959s book because the image of Theadora as a free-loving, promiscuous, and aggressively sexual bisexual woman would just be so stereotypical!

Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich? They didn't spend their screen time running around in trousers to suggest their characters weren't quite straight. http://www.youtube.c...?v=uPZIqw9RcOU' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow external'>What sort of bigot would come up with such an idea?

I think everyone is forgetting that this is a game. Anders might be gay in one person's game and not gay in another's. It's the same with Fenris. Frankly, you are all taking this way too far. No one is gay in my game unless Bioware specifically makes it so by writing it into the script and giving you no choice. In someone else's game, everyone may be gay.

What I don't get is why so many people are criticizing a character based on his/her looks.

Here, I'm going to compile it in an easy simple form so we can always re-reference what is entirely wrong about these characters! Take note, Developers. For we are fans, and we know better despite any lack of training or professional experience in design & writing. We may not get paid for our opinions but boy do we have a lot of them and you HAVE to pay attention to make this game better!

Merrill : Looks like a little girl, her nose is weird, too short, sounds childish, inexperienced, virginal, god another elf, WTF booobz. Perhaps if you made her taller, gave her the face of Helen Mirren, and completely did away with her nose? Also - no mention of her sexual past what so ever, but it doesn't hurt to make her sexually aggressive and seem to know exactly what she is doing without giving any prior history lest it wound my pride, which is important because I am awesome.

Isabela: Her boobs are too big, she's too fat, she needs pants, rewrite her as a nun because being a pirate nun would be awesome, less flirtation, less ****ty, less female. Give her no boobs, make sure she's thin as a stick because she's a rogue. Take my word for it. Olive Oil was HAWT. There's a reason why Popeye wanted to TAP THAT.

Fenris: Beiber hair? White hair? Anime bishie? OMG, really? And he looks SO gay. And an elf. And tattoos. Because I cannot stand comparing my appearance to a fantasy character, therefore feel very inadequate when women online that I don't know are busier fawning and appreciating a fantasy character as opposed to MY favorite LI / ME who they SHOULD fawn over, I would prefer you just get rid of him all together or replace him with an unnattractive qunari.

Anders: Cannibalistic abomination who wears a skirt and has a spirit inside him.... mmmm... okay. Because ladies are still interested in him, I find him still threatening to my favorite character and/or me and would recommend you make him look like a sack of meat or at least a broodmother. That would be great.

Please. Take these criticisms into account and be sure to make changes accordingly. I know better because I am a fan, not because I know anything about the future of the story or really much about these characters at all.

I still know better because I am a fan.

I've heard the same critiques come from women too, though more so when they are defending their LI or comparing their favorite LI with another. But the same thing comes up over and over again.

Fenris is to feminine, girly, angry, silly, gay, white hair bishie, elf, lolz
Anders is a cannibalistic spirit infiltrated mage who is gross and why do you like him?
Varric is a dwarf gross lolz at you for liking him.

Its a two way mean street. People are disrespectful.

Exactly!  Just like every Fenris fangirl is a yaoi-loving preteen who is only into Fenris because he is super 'kawaii desu' and they want to see their M!Hawke make out with him and run through spring fields of daisy flowers under a raindow that leads to a pot of gold and unicorns.

Under this logic, why have underwear during love/sex scenes?  If it's a mature game and not meant for anyone under 17/18 depending on what country you are in, why is Bioware so concerned about showing a bit of skin?

I see Isabela's attire as immersion breaking because she's fighting and she is exposing all of her vulnerable areas.  Everyone knows that the breasts are where the heart is.  Dead with one hit.  She's not invincible.  If she is then that is even more immersion breaking.  She will not be recruited into my party unless I can put armor on her.  The reason I liked DAO so well is because as the team members got stronger, I could put better armor on them.  You can't do this in DA2.  I really like Dragon Age but DA2 is reminding me a lot of ME2.  A mini skirt and shirt without a bra is saying attack me first because I'm likely to die the quickest.  It's the reason mages always stayed in the back in DAO.

Why are we complaining about appearances?  The characters are the characters!  Just accept them for who/what they are/look like and have fun with the game...sheesh!!!

Anyway back on topic... Is Jennifer Hepler still around or did she just come along to torment us? I may wither and perish and other exagerated response without more information on that whole... eating... people.... thing :crying:

Lol yes I was hoping she'd stick around to clarify that after I asked about it but I must have just missed her. :)

In case she comes back... I'll repost it :bandit::

Ms. Hepler, so did Anders really eat parts of those guys in his story?
The first time I read the "eaten flesh" line I didn't think much of it
- like I thought it was just a metaphor saying the bodies were so
messed up it looked like they'd been eaten. But now I'm not so sure. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png
