They are so different it makes my teeth hurt. The only likeness they share is that they are both good looking elves. If Fenris was a human, such comparisons wouldn't exist.

Zevran was forced into a life of servitude to the Crows against his will, Fenris was forced into a life of servitude to a Magister against his will.
Zevran was trained to be a killing machine, Fenris was trained to be a killing machine.
Zevran showed virtually no regret for his crimes. Fenris takes pleasure in killing those hunting him.
Zevran would joke about magical bosoms at odd times, Fenris noticed a random womans cleavage while fleeing.
Zevran was tattooed and tan with fair hair, Fenris is tattooed and tan with fair hair.
Zevran needed the Warden's help against the crows, Fenris will need Hawke's help against the Magister's hunters.

I don't think Fenris is a carbon copy the way some people make it sound but there are similarities aside from just being an elf.

Also they both have, two eyes, two ears, two legs, two arms, a nose, mouth...damn you Bioware they are carbon copies of each other!

The well made point was if you break  anything/one down simply enough and they will appear similar to any other chosen item of comparison.  In my experiance all people are more similar than they are differet, but it's the little differences that make things interesting. For example I like my dog...I think everyone knows how that thought is finished ;)

Nah, it's because they both have strong connections to Orlais without being 'proper' Orlesians.

There aren't any actual Orlesians.  They're all really from Fereldan. An entire country made up of people from another country. When Loghain discovered this, it turned him evil!

Even my 'Orlesian' Warden in Awakening is actually Fereldan from her accent. Zut alors!

And Hardened Leliana is Leliana 2.0, if you please!

Exactly this. It's a conspiracy!

This is an outrage! /Udina

I better be able to romance Fenris on my male and female playthroughs. Too good to pass up either time!

I would've thought that with the voice protag there would've been more playable characters this time and/or more romances. But maybe I was still thinking Mass Effect (which increased companions from the first to the second).

Fewer is potentially better though just do to the distribution of resources. Yes ME2 had more LI's but the romances themselves were all shorter and a bit more shallow than the ME1 or DAO romances.
Given the complexity of the romancable characters this time around it's probably better that it be limited to just the four.
Of course there still hasn't been any official word on whether DLC characters will ever come with romance options so who knows,  just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it never will.

Absolutely agreed on the less satisfying romances in ME2.  They just seemed kind of perfunctory, rather than good storytelling.

I think everyone is forgetting that this is a game. Anders might be gay in one person's game and not gay in another's. It's the same with Fenris. Frankly, you are all taking this way too far. No one is gay in my game unless Bioware specifically makes it so by writing it into the script and giving you no choice. In someone else's game, everyone may be gay.

A good point, really.

Can't we all just do some more squeeing about the love?

There shall be no "squeeing" from me until Merrill is s/s option for femhawke!

I don' t see that happening...no squees for you.

No squees for me? No squees for me:(

Hmmm. Good thing Varric ain't a LI. Would basically change the story a lot.

I don't like Varric anyway, so it didn't matter much to me.

Not to mention the people who whine about Izzie's lost pants. Okay, she does not wear pants. How many singers that are in prime time at the tv do NOT wear pants? It's not like she is naked in a child game...It's rated mature, so act like you are mature. Or don't play the game at all.

Under this logic, why have underwear during love/sex scenes?  If it's a mature game and not meant for anyone under 17/18 depending on what country you are in, why is Bioware so concerned about showing a bit of skin?

I see Isabela's attire as immersion breaking because she's fighting and she is exposing all of her vulnerable areas.  Everyone knows that the breasts are where the heart is.  Dead with one hit.  She's not invincible.  If she is then that is even more immersion breaking.  She will not be recruited into my party unless I can put armor on her.  The reason I liked DAO so well is because as the team members got stronger, I could put better armor on them.  You can't do this in DA2.  I really like Dragon Age but DA2 is reminding me a lot of ME2.  A mini skirt and shirt without a bra is saying attack me first because I'm likely to die the quickest.  It's the reason mages always stayed in the back in DAO.

Eh. Mileage varies; for some it will be easy to get over, for others, not so much.  Did they really do away with the ability to change our Companions' gear?

Me, I'm still laughing over the way the first game had Desire Demons walking around with their breasts hanging out for all the world to see, and Broodmothers had their gross ones hanging out, but in the sex scenes, the female characters had to have underwear on.  Who made that decision, and what in the Nine Hells were they thinking?

Regarding looking gay - meh. I think there is a stereotype that has been propogated, so I can understand someone making that assumption as shortsighted as it is.

Frankly, I don't think Fenris looks gay so much as Emo. What with the swished white hair and tats with the skin tight armour. Definitely Emo. :D

C

I don't disagree that there IS a stereotype, but I think people need to realize that that is all it is.  I work with teenagers and their parents, and too many actually think ALL gay men look the same stereotypical way.

Little known fact: Desire spirit actually have their boobs hanging out because it's comfortable, helps them float, and skin area is how they absorb nutrients.

I can't squee until the game is in my hands.  Then I'll squee all night long, and probably play for too long and end up groggy and stupid the next day and talk about nothing but DA2 with my students.

Or not.

Well, color me fascinated. But mostly, my fascination is limited to Anders. Sorry, Fenris, but you don't explode into abomination mode and murder people in a fit of violent vengeance.

Isabela's Leliana 2.0. Not only are they both human, but they're both rogues too. There's no escaping that one, BioWare dropped the ball there.

No... she's a pirate! *insert Pirates of the Caribbean music cue*

Ok, she's a rogue pirate... or is it pirate rogue? Nevermind.

On topic: I don't think they are the same category, especially not romance-wise.
Their attitude seems to differ a lot. And visually they appeal in very different ways.

game all about choice but choices are limited to these four. Aveline as a LI would probably make a good story. Merrill would just seem a little illegal cuz she looks only like she is 15 or 16

The age of consent in most countries in the world is 16 or lower.  It's 14 in Italy and Germany, 13 in Spain.  America is the exception, not the rule, and even in America there are many states where the age of consent is 16.

Until recently, the age of consent in Japan was 12.

If this thread proves one thing, it's that video gamers are a self-entitled lot. Those with progressive attitudes on sexuality, as much as any.

It's really kind of laughable that some expect every romanceable character to be open to every kind of relationship. While Ferelden seems to be an incredibly accepting and sexually liberal place to live, so is San Francisco and not every man there would be interested in a romantic trist with me.

I liked what BioWare did with Samara in Mass Effect 2. The idea that you can pursue somebody only to have them rebuff your advances makes the whole romance subplots seem that much more real to me. Not that it happens a great deal to me in the real world, of course.

I think it would be cool if things other than gender were taken into account when attempting to pursue a romance -- such as your actions, background etc.
