Good point, he did. Anders is a trained mage, so he could be better at doing so.... But Uldred didn't seem to be able to regain control at all. I think I'm a bit confused by this, but Anders does seem to be an abomination. *Sigh* I probably don't have to worry about Alistair killing him when/if they meet, more like whether my PC has to kill him herself.

All the abominations we've fought have been created demons though. Justice was a spirit. So Anders would be more like Wynne in that regard.

I'd like to think of it sort of like SG-1 and the goa'uld and the tok'ra

Goa'uld completley took over their host and all their functions, where as the tok'ra formed a symbiotic bond with the host, allowing both people to exsist in the same body.

You should re-read the codex entries for the Scrolls of Banastor - some interesting insight there.

Alright, alright, Elsariel!!  You're right ... Mea culpa!  I meant, so those few of us working stiffs who are so extremely lucky as to have the 21st off can play!  Posted Image  But it won't happen anyway.  But that's okay, because it is sooooo close .... *salivating*.

I know.. all day at work on the 22nd I'm going to be like "Is it time to go yet?  Is it time to go yet?"  I'll be completely worthless.  Posted Image

As to that:  Me too, me too!  My whole family laughs at my "obsession" with DA, but they don't understand!!!!!  Posted Image

Holy crap. I thought people were exaggerating about Anders/Justice being a cannibal. Not so much. That's very creepy.

Anders: Hey Hawke, could you pick me up some fava beans and a nice chianti the next time you go to market?
Hawke: :?

If he ever says that you know it's time to keep sword/staff/daggers etc on you're person at all times, particularly if you are romancing him.  And I'll be extremely worried if he ever starts calling the FemHawke 'Clarice' :P

Well, except for the taking over and chowing down on templars, of course. ;) Actually, I think that Wynne's spirit was something different than Justice. It never communicated except in general feelings. It didn't seem to have any opinions or want anything except to keep Wynne alive. That's very different than Justice, even when he was himself, and worlds away now.

Oh, I read the story. Rolan et al. could have come along after The Warden left - i.e. under the new management/new Commander/new rules. Anders was always squirrelly about his freedom, after all. With the new Warden/Templar's pressure and without his other friend(s) to talk him out of it or stand up for him, Justice's offer was too tempting and he succumbed to the Dark Side's 'Free' Cookies - so to speak. It would at least account for the 'He lived' Epilogues.

I'm wondering how they're going to bring Anders into the party without many Hawkes feeling the need to kill him as fast as humanly possible. He may not technically be an abomination since he can regain control, but he's pretty damn close.

The same way they 'brought' Zevran, Sten, and Leliana into the party. They give the PC the option to take them or not.

They're rather different than an abomination. And I had a bit of trouble with the Zevran decision even so, although pity won out.

They're also different in that they weren't essential to the plot, which Anders does appear to be.

So maybe there won't actually be a choice involved, for unknown reasons.

It's been confirmed that you do have to meet him and help him out, though, unlike Isabela, Fenris, and those Origins companions.

Thus I believe he will be forced into the party afterwards (not that you have to use him).

How are they different? They're all companions that a regular person would be hesitant to bring along. Sten admits to murdering a family and Zevran just tried to kill you. If your PC doesn't want a Chantry hating abomination in their party, they should avoid Anders.

Being "in your party" doesn't seem to mean the same thing as it meant in Origins. You're not schlepping them around the country. They're in their home base and they join you for looting and pillage as you call upon them.

@ Maria-You really don't see a difference between an assassin and an abomination?

Or, you know- Wynne.  Who admits to having a Fade Fairy and wonders aloud if she's an abomination.

4 seems slightly limited, but I suppose you'll be flirting with other non-party members. Yes I've outed myself as someone who really digs Bioware romances. :)

I just noticed this:

After weeks of speculation I just found the following tidbit of information in the PC Player review which might interest you guys.

"... DA2's romantic options are unconstrained. You meet a party member chances are you can bone them (your sibling is on fortunate exception) Male, female, amalgamation of human and spirutal manifestation of justice, all are fair game.  ..."

So I take, there is someone for anyone to choose from when picking your love interest. ;)

After reading the review, I can't wait to get my hands on the game. (And no, not just because of the romance options)

All the abominations we've fought have been created demons though. Justice was a spirit. So Anders would be more like Wynne in that regard.

*Jumps in*
Demons are spirits who have allowed themselves to be corrupted by an attachement to the mortal plane and obsession over an emotion (pride, desire, vengeance, etc.)

so, Wynne was, technically, an abomination. she just happened to have a symbiotic relationship with a benevolent spirit instead of the usual parasitic relationship with a malevolent one.

I'd have to disagree with you about the abomination part. Wynne always has control, and it would seem that her spirit is uncorrupted. I think it's still a spirit, not a demon.  Hmm... I wonder if that's why it keeps it's 'distance', not communicating with her directly, but with vague emotions. I guess the exact definition depend on whether one has to lose control of one's mind to be an abomination, or if it only refers to demonic possession. Also whether having 'Guardian' skill made one an abomination.

Yes Anders does unfortunately appear to be essential, I just hope we aren't forced to put up with him until the very last part of the game. Personally I would like the option to kill him without having to recruiting him and just taking the map.

Question: Are demons born the way they are, or are they just spirits that were corrupted at some point like Justice?

I've been wondering that since this all came out.

Just to clarify, I have no desire to kill Anders, am glad he'll be a companion, and hope the hell I can help him. I like him very much--or the person he used to be, anyway. I'll be very distressed if we can't do so.
