I'm sure it mustn't be to hard to figure it out yourself, no?

So...do you just not roleplay at all, or what?

Depends how you define role-playing. I play the role as Hawke but to me, Hawke isn't a character. As far as I'm concerned, I couldn't care less about what I want Hawke's personality to be. I often here people saying, "My character is strong, tough, and women-killer". Frankly, I couldn't care who I was playing. Or what choices I made. I only made the choices I made because they were "cool". For example, I picked Lohgain to join my party because I thought it was "cool" having a villain on my party. Nothing more.

But either way, you probably couldn't "not role-play" at all because when you're playing a role-playing game like Dragon Age 2, you're still playing the Champion of Kirkwall. You're still playing a role.

It's pretty hard if we restrict ourselves to rational answers.

Because there are bisexual people who worry that they won't be able to carry out a romance option like that. That's all.

But love isn't rational.

Some people like to roleplay a gay player character. Others don't have a characterization in mind when they play Dragon Age, but might be LGBT in real life and would prefer to pick a same-gender love interest for their character and feel most comfortable doing so (picking an opposite-sex interest to them may feel as awkward as some straight male gamers feel romancing Zevran). Some people are just yaoi/yuri fangirls/fanboys and get an extra special kick out of same-sex action. I could go on, but I think those are all fairly straightforward and not difficult to understand answers to your question.

Do people really pay $60 for a game and then choose to skip massive amounts of content?

Yes.

For example, in Knights, Jade Empire, ME 1+2, and DA:O, I never do any of the 'evil' actions. In DA:O, I only played through the game once as a human noble.

Maybe because I'd like my Lady Hawke to romance either Merrill or Isabela. Straight people get two options representative of their own sexuality. We only got one in Origins. Despite the fact that I'd likely have been with Leliana no matter what my other options are, I never had a choice.

Though to be honest, you really aren't missing much considering that there aren't that many 'evil' actions to begin with. More like morally ambiguous. Wait, am I using the word "ambiguous" in the right sentence? What's the word for "grey" morality here?

Ambiguous. I also can't bring myself to play evil characters. I've tried, but the closest I've ever gotten is chaotic neutral. She was a sociopath with a heart-shaped-hole of gold.

Wait, so does this mean that all LIs are bi? Hallaluha! Happy days! If not :(

Yay, someone finally noticed! The review definitively confirms that all
are bi. That doesn't mean it's true, though, until a dev says so or we
experience it in-game.

Two

Alister and Morrigan were straight.
Zevarn and Leliana were Bi.

I think it fair, two for two....Unless I'm missing the point.

I just noticed this:

Rabenstein wrote...

After weeks of speculation I just found the following tidbit of information in the PC Player review which might interest you guys.

"... DA2's romantic options are unconstrained. You meet a party member chances are you can bone them (your sibling is on fortunate exception) Male, female, amalgamation of human and spirutal manifestation of justice, all are fair game. ..."

So I take, there is someone for anyone to choose from when picking your love interest. ;)

After reading the review, I can't wait to get my hands on the game. (And no, not just because of the romance options)

They did say at PAX that there would be "hit and quit it" scenarios (minus the sex cards). I hope this doesn't mean that the main romances are more shallow, a la Mass Effect.

After watching the footage, I get the feeling there may be a casual sex xcene with Isabella right away. Hopefully, if you take it, that doesn't mean you are excluded from her romance later on . . . as they did with Jack in ME2 =/

Sure, Zevran and Leliana are both bi. But I'm not ;)

Well I was reading a few of the stories in here.

After I read Merrill I was like is that the same Elf from the Origin story when you play as a Dalish Elf because it really seems so. Remember the Keeper sent her with you when going back to that one cave. But it was when she mentions Tamlens disappearance that it hit me that Merrill we get in DA2 is the same Merrill from Dalish Origin story.

But not to ask a stupid question, is it? I hate to assume, makes me feel like a fool if i am wrong lol.

It depends on the game for me. Dragon Age made it very hard to play an evil character because it did it in a way to make you feel bad about evil actions (ie. a certain assassin wringing his hands over murder). Free-roaming games tend to be better for that kind of thing (Fallout 3 being a great example where you can actually get benefits from wholesale murder).

I believe you are actually...
Ishmael was speaking per-sex.
A straight PC had 2 romance options. If you played a straight male warden you could romance Lel or Mor.
Gay PC's had 1 option. If you played a gay male Warden you could only romance Zevran.

Yes, Merrill in DA2 is the one from the Dalish Origin story.

I think you're right in terms of "equal representation"-ish... that is to say, half of the romancable characters are LGBT. However, in terms of "hello, my character is a straight woman" you get two choices (Alistair and Zev) but in terms of "hello, my character is a lesbian" beggars can't be choosers (Leliana or your life of solitude). To me this isn't exactly a fair complaint in terms of "there needs to be more options so that I can find someone I like" because well, personally, I didn't enjoy Leliana or Morrigan so it wouldn't have mattered if all were bi, but I think there's a compelling argument to be made that all characters should be bi so that, despite limited romance options due to writing/budget/story constraints, every player has the best possible chance to pursue a romance they enjoy while still playing their preferred gender. Of course, in that case, the new system that reveals the intent of your dialogue choice with a heart icon will really help out so that nobody ends up in an unwanted romance.

Equal representation would be two straight characters, two bisexual characters, and two gay characters. 'LGBT' is not a sexual orientation.

Not that equal representation is inherently good or something BioWare would desire.

To me that reads like "There are no birds in the yard. They're more like chickens." If something is 'evil' then it's probably morally ambiguous to someone, otherwise it would just be evil.

To be sure, I think most choices in the game are clearly good or evil as good and evil are cultural constructs.

If there's a choice between murdering the werewolves, murdering the elves, or curing the werewolves, and I say I always pick the good option, does anyone struggle to figure out which option I'm choosing? What about kill Connor, kill Isolde, or perform a ritual so the demon is removed and no one is hurt? If I say I always pick the good option, most people know what I mean.

Do they agree that these are good? Not necessarily. Do they know what I mean when I say it? Typically. And that's the most we can ask of a word, that when someone uses it, you know what they mean.
