I'd rather kill a child than sleep with my brother..

I agree. But that doesn't mean that the concept doesn't have literary merit.

Take the film 'Scarface' - Tony Montana can have any woman in the world... apart from the one he really wants, and that sets him up for his tragic fall.

Romance--as much as we all love it--isn't central to the story of Dragon Age.  It's just there to 'enrich' the experiance for those who think it adds to their adventure story.  You can easily complete the game without romancing any of your companions.

That being said, I see no reason why you couldn't roll a character romantically inclined towards their sister/brother, if you wanted to.  Said sister/brother just so happens to not feel the same way.  You could just as easily roll a character that harbors a romantic interest in Varric or Aveline.  Doesn't mean they're going to return Hawke's feelings.

There's your tragedy.

I didn't want to turn this thread into a pro-incest rant, honestly.  I simply find it amusing that:

a) Bioware make the sister character a LOT more attractive than the other girls, likely messing with our minds (or Varric is, seeing as how he's narrating things)

This is pretty subjective, as I find both Isabela and Merrill more attractive than Bethany.

And I'd say more fans are fond of killing Isolde. :P

True, but I think the difference is that any children born of incest are more likely to have genetic disorders.  I'm OK with the act of incest, just not the potential genetic consequences.

Why on earth would people make a game that 'no fan base in the world would accept'? That would be counter-productive as hell.

That was my point.

Sure hope they never read any Greek myths.  It might blow their tiny minds.

Only royalty had incestuous relationships to continue the family line. Everywhere else it was looked down upon by the community.

I'd romance Bethany. I mean, it would be way hard to write well, but if done correctly, it could be the deepest and most rewarding romance plot BioWare's done. And IF it were done well, I'd want to play it.

But, I don't think that BioWare are cowards because they don't. They don't have to include an incest plot to make a good game. I they don't want to, who am I to tell them they're jerks?

And as for a section of the player base being treated badly, I don't think we are. I'll say it again, I think they have told us who the s/s options are: all of them. People just want more specific confirmation, and BioWare aren't giving us that. I'm co with thar, because I trust them and have faith in them. You'll notice that they haven't told us who the m/f romances are either.

As am I. We are in agreement as I've mentioned several times already.

We deviate here ...

It's a game people, not reality. It is an rpg.

You will do well a romance with a child ? And I hope you're not a pedophile ? So stop two minutes the old morality, there would be a lot to say.

Morality has its place in relation to our character, not the player. I have a lot of principles into reality, but I do not hesitate to play a villain in the game, I kill children (Connor), innocent people, etc.. I distinguish between reality and the game. We can identify with our character, but it is also a very good experience to take a little distance and to adopt a different profile of your own, with a behavior, a personality. That's the rp.

In short, let the debate on morality, it has nothing to do there. This discussion is already condemned.

Exactly Sylvianus, I completely agree. There is nothing creepy with wanting to play an incestual character, it does in no way reflect on the person playing. Most sane people can distinguish between a game and reality. And there is nothing wrong with incest in real life either as long as no kiddies are conceived.

No, they haven't. That's a conclusion you've arrived at via deduction. I say they've told us who the s/s romances are, because they're not doing straight only characters. My conclusion is just as valid as yours, if not moreso, because mine is based on relevant data. They've said "here are the romance, you can pick between these four."

Be a naysayer all you'd like, but that's confirmation.

Oh, give me a break! Yes, those things are exactly the same as incest. Soon we'll all be enlightened enough to screw our family members.

You know, I really love the romance options and think Bioware has done a great service to games-as-art by pushing this aspect of gameplay. But honestly, the context of these posts is REALLY starting to creep me the hell out.

I feel like I need three showers now.

You obviously have a long way to go before you are enlightened. You present no argument other than 'its creepy'. Stay back boy, the men are talking.

Don't worry, they're not mutually exclusive! :D

But yeah, why no Carver love? Am I the only one who would have loved a ManHawke/Carver same sex romance? I'm deadly serious. *crickets* Yeah, I guess it's just me. Also, I'm sure the kink meme will soon be sporting all imaginable flavors of incest and twincest if it isn't already, so clearly not everyone is against it. But, while I'd love all of these magical things to happen, I'm under no illusions as to how highly umarketable they are. I mean, we don't even have a completely gay love interest. Aaaaaaaaand I don't want people to start getting burninated and b& over an incest debate.

In other news, has anybody thought about how odd it might be to have competition? Like, if I was a manly manhawke, and Isabela was hitting on Carver in the party banter? Or worse, Carver hitting on manhawke's woman? I'm excited to see this happen, hahaha. My hawke never would have taken it seriously if it was just any companion, but dude, that's my brother!

I think I'll forgo trying to explain why incest is both taboo and deeply creepy, as well as the damage it does to those involved. If I have to explain, I don't think there's much point.

Censensual incest without reproduction hurts nobody, actually.

Seriously though, if Zevran could hit on Morrigan, couldn't Anders hit on Bethany? My FHawke is gonna end up in a catfight with her sister if that happens.

That makes zero sense.

They've told us that Merrill and Isabela are romance options.  They've told us they don't do gay only options.  These are facts.  So....both of those women are available to ManHawke at least (and possibly one or the other is for FemHawke).  That's two m/f options confirmed.

Same can be said for the guys.
