Its kind've funny that nobody even considers the possibility that the original statement in this thread was correct, when it says "You can choose to romance...." mentions the four names, then AGAIN says "You now know who you can pursue". It says it two different times, and yet everybody is still speculating on which characters are and arent romancable by gender. Obviously it 'could' have have been a mis-statement, TWICE in the SAME post, but what's strange is that not a single person is even considering the possibility that it actually meant what it said. Go figure :) .

Personally I assumed there was no way Bioware would be that generous.

....That's....a very good point. *eyes narrow in suspicion* It would also explain why Gaider was in the all Bi LI thread and said it could be believable if written properly (well other than him knowning that obviously).

I agree. I don't think it's a stretch to imagine that ALL of these people are BI, not just two.

It's true that not everyone in the world is bisexual - but there may be people of one orientation only in the non-party NPC romances. Worth considering in my opinion.

I have to say I'm surprised Sebastian Vael isn't one. Not that it bothers me. Just surprised seeing as he had the looks.

The stories are a nice touch. Thank you =]

However reading Anders' story I can't help but wonder... where in the Nine Hells were my Warden to let something like that happen :pinched:

That's something that came to my mind, too.

Reading the story, I instantly wished my Warden-Commander would have been there to do something...
My Warden-Commander had high respect for Justice and was Anders friend.

Now I'm sort of torn between the urge to punishing them versus redeeming them both.

But as Hawke is no Grey Warden and doesn't know Justice and Anders, he will probably react differently...

At first I was surprised and wondered how it would work if the Warden-Commander was there, but now I imagine, the Warden  has probably gone to do what s/he did after Awakening.  It makes sense that the Hero of Ferelden would have enough political clout to essentially "kill" a templar (that is if you chose that option) and get the Chantry to back off, but after s/he moved on I could see that Anders being a Warden as problematic.  He escaped seven times from mageland already (not really innocent behavior) and it is only through intervention from both the Warden and whoever is the monarch at the beginning of Awakening that he even gets to be conscripted.
Can't wait to play!  I love all of the short fictions and they were really some nice bits of writing!

I've briefly considered that possibility which I why I framed my inquiry the way I did.  Didn't want to imply that two LI's had to be straight and two had to be bi and no other combination was possible.

That being said I entertained the possibility only briefly because thinking on it too long will just lead to me passing out from all the potential awesome prematurely.  If romances are not gated by gender then I shall pass out when it is announced/found out upon playing.

He's a DLC character. Not that this means he isn't a love interest, but this statement is just about the core game, not its DLCs.

All four are a fantastic selection. I defintely look forward to romancing Isabella and Fenris first, but I will most likely romance them all with a bunch of Hawkes :D

Excellent game will be excellent!

While I'm utterly depressed by the female love interests (was only rooting for Aveline), I'm overjoyed at the male cast! I'm feeling like the m/m is going to be Fenris, but I'm really craving a dark and combative m/m romance with Anders. But I'm happy either way... augh, I'm going to have to play this game so many times!

Great storytime!

Surprisingly, of all the Companions, Isabela has DEFINITELY picked up my attention.

There are degrees though.
It's true that the only character who was pure coolness was Alistair, I just don't swing that way.

Sure there are degrees, but it's also important to remember we all have different standards as to what constitutes a psychopath or screwed up person too. As others have said, they thought Alistair was screwed up just as much as other people. And then there's Morrigan.

The one LI that's giving the me most concern at the moment is Anders because of the Justice/Vengeance thing, because I can't work out how that's going to come across in a romance. But whether he is the straight or bi LI doesn't matter really, because I'm pretty sure the writers didn't sit up in BW Towers and think 'hmm, if Anders is going to be the bi LI we'd better make sure we make him somehow more screwed up than anyone else in the game'.

I'm aware of the sensitive nature of troubling tropes when it comes to the portrayal of gay and bi characters in film and tv, but I think we can be a little quick to jump to conclusions when it comes to their portrayal here. Because ultimately, in a BW game, especially in a Dragon Age game, they're all screwed up. Otherwise it just wouldn't be BW.

I'm sure Anders will have the most interesting romance plot due to his situation.

Hawke: So Anders...I think we should talk.
Anders: Hm?
Hawke: I was just wondering where we go from here.
Anders: I thought we were headed for Hightown to turn in some quests today.
Hawke: What? No...I mean between us.
Anders: What are you talking about?
Hawke: Don't your remember last night? You weren't drinking, were you?
Anders: Last night?!
Hawke: This is awkward... Anders, we slept together.
Anders: We slep- Wha?! Wait... Justice!!!

While my initial reaction to that possibiltiy is "Oh, of course not!" my second reaction is "Wait, why not?" Sure, it's unrealistic that everybody wants to bone Hawke no matter what gender they/Hawke are/is, it's a game. If they open all romances to either gender, that's a way to open up content to a lot of people. And my THIRD reaction is "@#$!, what if I have to choose between Merrill and Isabela?! *hugesadface*." At least if they do it the way they did in Origins, my choice would be made for me :P

Not at all, we just haven't been told who the LI is. Unless you're referring to something else?

That...is an interesting thought. But still, I don't think Bioware is that nice :P
If they are, though, I'll be pretty happy.

You mean s/s romances? It seems a rising opinion that all the LI are bi, and that's why they said 'here's everyone available to you', instead of 'here's the people available depending on your sex'.
