I picked up this game this weekend through Steam (Ultimate Edition). Instead of starting out my character with the in-game standard appearances, I figured it could be possible to make your character look way different and much better looking. It's possible with Mass Effect 2 (although I found my ideal female Shepard without the usage of mods), so why not with Dragon Age?
Sadly, it seemed not to be that simple. There's no character creation code available. Well I figured I'll need mods anyway, as I already played around a bit with the appearances and nothing that would satisfy me. I Googled a bit and found dragonagenexus and downloaded a mod that had a lot of custom faces (15_Faces_Project or something) and another mod that had a lot of hairstyles (believe it's called More_Hairstyles). I put all the files into my documents/bioware/dragon age/packages/core/override
I went ingame, but the newly available faces & hairstyles were a mess. Half of them weren't showing and the other half were plain out of place/ugly. I can't provide a pic for this right now but I don't think that's necessary. I'm obviously doing something wrong, and I cannot find for the life of it.
I couldn't find guides on how to correctly install fan-made faces & hairstyles with Google, either I used the wrong parameters or everyone thinks it's supereasy (except for me!) to do so. And if I do find a guide, it only covers a small part of what I need to know or explains it way too detailed.
Therefore, the question fo this topic is, is there a simple guide for installing custom faces & hairstyles? Or if you're feeling generous, you could tell me just here as well. Might be easy as well for other newbs like me who are stuck at this point. I didn't found a guide here either between the oh-so-many topics.
Thanks!
LF a guide to create a custom character appearance

Hey Risk.
As I understand it, you are looking to create your own faces, but check out these two morph collections. Both have a lot of great faces to inspire you and will point you to a lot of essential appearance mods. All the good hair, skin, makeup, eye, etc. mods.
Fereldan Models http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1917
Just Morphs http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1930
To get all the mods working correctly in the character creator, pick up all of Wyldsong's tutorials. Just gonna link you to his profile page. All the tuts are listed at the bottom.
Wyldsong's profile @ DA Nexus http://www.dragonage....php?id=1884872
If you get the urge to use some of the excellent morphs available as .mor files, I recommend getting DA Face Replacer http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=428
My tut for DA Face Replacer will get you up to speed with using it. http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=2063
Hope this gets you going down the right path.

No no, I'm not necessarily looking to create my own faces/hairstyles. What I want to do is installing faces/hairstyles mods made by other people. If you take a look at the Character Show Off and especially Prettiest Character Contest, you'll find a lot of good looking females and that is somewhat the result I'm looking for. I'm not really in need of creating a character that no one else has.
I haven't checked the links yet, I will do that tomorrow. I felt the need to answer this quote before going off to bed, to hopefully clear any misunderstandings. Wouldn't want to end up with the wrong links tomorrow!
Also excuse for my english, it's not my main language.

Yeah, that is what I was trying to say. My bad for not being clear. We are thinking the same thing, it's just a communication error on my part.

After messing around a bit I found a face + hairstyle I liked in Ferelden Models: Adeira. It's good enough for my first playthrough so I downloaded it altogether with DA Face Replacer. I follow the PDF-manual, everything goes as the instructions tell me to.
However, when I go back ingame and load the savegame, I'm getting this: http://img812.images...ngtextures.jpg/
No clue what I was doing wrong.

You're missing some required mods
You need to download the 'Trill tattoo' and 'custom eye texture by Roma Victa' on the same page.
Unpack those files into documents>bioware>dragon age>packages>core>override
You also need to make sure you've installed these.
Pineappletrees Vibrant Colours: http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=153
Dracomies True textures: http://social.biowar...m/project/1205/
Tucked hair: http://social.biowar...m/project/2595/
Natalie Portman: http://social.biowar...ect/2448/#files
LOTC's female eyelashes: http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1435
Or the face won't show up properly
I know that's a lot of extra stuff, but she is quite a detailed character. Not all the faces on there require so much though

Such a hassle! Thanks for providing the links, saves time. Now she's complete and I can play. I'll be back at the second playthrough.

Hmm, after playing a bit I discovered a small bug on my character still. Seems I'm missing something for my eyes: http://img6.imagesha.../wrongeyes.jpg/
They're often black (mostly caused by light effects afaik) and my portrait also looks really creepy. I did downloaded and unpacked all the mods you linked me though. Any idea what I'm missing still?

I think I know what might be causing the problem. I blended that part of her face with a different texture.
It's from Dracomies True Textures (included in DA Redesigned): http://social.biowar...m/project/1205/
You need to select the option for Dracomies True textures when installing it.
Please can you double check that you have a file called 'Dracomies Textures VI.erf' in your override folder.
If you do have that installed, then I'm not sure what's happening. I can send you an unblended version of the morph, there will be minimal difference in appearence.

Ah, I must have forgotten to install that mod, it was still unpacked. Checked it ingame and now she's really looking good this time. Thanks for your dedication!
Gave your mod a thumb-up also.
