I recently learned about cut phrase from the final sentence of the Harbinger, after "That which you know as Reapers are your salvation through destruction." he said.

"You will surrender your potential against the growing void."
"We return, and you will rise!"

I learned this from the subtitle file.

When you consider that the motives of the Reapers more than the destruction, if they want to help, let such a horrible way, you have to fight until the moment while you can win, but the fight to the death does not make sense. If you see that the resistance will not lead to victory, it is logical to surrender and accept the gift of greatness.
To go beyond life and death, to become someone out of time, to find the ultimate meaning of existence.

I would like to see in one of the endings Mass Effect 3 Human-Reaper said by metallic voice of Shepard: "The cycle can not be broken."

Because it would be symbolic. Shepard realizes that resistance is no longer possible, we can not win, Reapers can not be stopped and have only way - to surrender and accept the gift of the Reapers.

Reapers are not empty AI they have motives deeper than global destruction.

When millions are processed into jellies, creates a unified consciousness, but consciousness is aware of himself as a representative of the destroyed race. Accepting motives of the Reapers.
- Sovereign: "We are each a nation. Independent, free of all weakness."

For example, all religions talk about life after death, the soul abandons the body, moving to another state of being.
People believe that their life will not end after bodily death. People believe that their soul is immortal.
But nobody can find the material immortality - the bodily immortality.
Therefore, everyone scared to die, nobody knows whether there is in reality a different life.

Perhaps in the distant past Reapers did not wanted to die and have created a way to keep your consciousness in this reality, in the form of an indestructible material form, free of all weakness.
Their body has become the machine, but the consciousness remains the same.
The consciousness of living beings.

I sincerely believe that the Reapers are not ancient Skynet.

Very interesting theory.

My only problem with it is the lack of choice.  The Reapers impose this "immortality" which makes it seem more like a punishment or attack than a gift.

Great, that's my idea evoked response.

I am very worried about the motives and origins of the Reapers.
I am afraid that it may happen that something will remain unsaid.
That not all will come to its logical conclusion.

I hope that we will doesn't have to destroy empty enemies.
I hope that victory over the Reapers will not be in the fact that we find a powerful guns.
I hope that a victory - not just the powerful guns and a lot of allies.
Victory - is primarily a spiritual strength and strategic decisions.
I hope that a finale of this incredible story may be is not only a victory.
I guess, I'm the first who could imagine that we can take the Reapers as saviors.

Always after the end of the great story remains a sadness. It is sad because the journey is over, and the story came to an end. But with this sadness there is a sense of inspiration, because you were part of story, you have passed this way.
I hope and sincerely believe that I will be sad when I put the point in my history of Mass Effect.

A variety of endings should be available for ME3, like in Bioshock:
Good/good all is saved, the Reapers lose.
Bad/good not all is saved, the Reapers lose and Sheppard dies heroicly so that the survivors can have a future.
Bad/bad Reapers win
Good/bad Reapesr win, Sheppard dies, but your LI with a survivor fleet is planning the "Survival" wars to destroy the Reapers

I support different endings =) it makes it more interessting to put several different shepards through ME3. That said I still hope for some sort of happy conclusion to my shep and Kaidan. Not all pink hearts and bunnies but just something for the hopeless romantic ones =). Something happy, something really dark and a couple in between.

There should be a different ending caused from every decsion a player has made from ME, ME2  and ME3. Just imagine the possibilities!

Well now. With the release of the most recent issue of GameInformer it has been revealed that there will be indeed multiple endings and it has been implied that past actions from ME1 & ME2 will have a much more meaningful impact on the ME3 story. Here's to the "All is Lost!" ending making an appearance! *lifts glass of Gatoraid in toast.*

Yes! I believe it is going to come down to whether or not You helped Opald smuggle the package onto noveria.

That would give to "butterfly effect" a whole new meaning ...MASS effect.

...ok that was horrible

Naah, remember finding resources for the Alliance, Prothean temples etc. etc in ME1? In order to win against the Reapers, you gotta find them all

I don't get the obsession with losing you guys have. There is already multiple you lose endings : these are the mission failed screens. If I get to the end of a game, I want to win...
Now a bittersweet win is fine with me, but you can't lose at the end of a game. imo.

An awful idea. I've always thought that the ME2 ending in which you've lost was silly. The point of finishing a game is winning. Not losing. I like to have an actual alternate ending based on choices instead. I rather have a "game over" screen when the reapers win than "celebrating your defeat" by a melodramatic ending. It's a waste of time to play such an ending.

Edit: An ending based on a countown clock is even worse. In such an ending your reflexes are worth more than your strategic insight and choices. There is only so much I can take between the merger of action games and RPGs. A countdown ending goes too far.

Where/how would you implement such an ending?

As AFW says, of course every time you die, the Reapers 'win'.

If you have this ending be based on some sort of accumulated points system, it needs to be REALLY hard to get, because otherwise you'll have people bringing in imports that are already doomed, without knowing it, since ME1/2 don't give indications of such.

You certainly can't have it be based on para/renegade.

Thinking about it, it feels like they wouldn't make a game where you could be halfway through and everything is already hopeless because you made some bad decisions in ME1/2 and then screwed one up in the beginning of 3. Anti-casual or something. I don't know if I'd mind personally.

I would certainly welcome a "Join the Reapers" ending, if the Reapers are made sufficiently interesting (and I hope very much that they will be).

Well, when I started this thread the whole point was to bring home the fact that your actions can and will have consequences, which includes having a "potential" All is Lost ending. Note: I said "potential", meaning IF your were a total arse and/or screw-up for ME1 & ME2 then there would be consequences and that ladies and gentlemen is what "Mass Effect" is all about. :)

There has to be an "all is lost" ending. With no risk to humanity and all endings leading to Shepard saving the galaxy, there can be no drama.

An all out "everything is doomed" ending would be great. I want the Reaper invasion to be Shepard's Mandalorian War. S/he wins the war, but loses his/her soul.

If you want an "all is lost" ending, go back and play Daggerfall or Fallout 1. The only way that I can foresee an "all is lost" ending could be implemented in Mass Effect is that if you were given an arbitrary time limit to do quests.

might be interesting. I'd like to see the "All is lost" ending not be set in stone based on your ME1/2 actions (though more probable with some), and more on ME3 actions. I'd also like the "all is lost" sending still have some variables to keep the suspense (loose to the reapers but escape with a few survivors to be chased through the galaxy until you all starve vs. total annihilator).

Also, I kind of like the idea of a "Shep gets indoctrinated" ending, but it would be best if it came after defeating the reapers (kinda like Twin Peaks) A more grounded version (which I still think would be fun) would be a "we are worse then the reapers" ending, where you totally beat them but commit so many atrocities that you are more of a villan then they are.

Oh, and lastly, I think having some points where you have to choose between saving a well liked ME1/2 character (Garrus, Tali, Liara, Anderson, Virmire survivor...or your ME3 LI) and doing real damage to the reaper invasion. If you neglect trying to defeat the reapers too much you get a "bad" ending.

I'm going to say no to that last one. Way too overdone in my opinion, and I think my femShep deserves her happy ending with Kaidan. Not that I don't support an optional "all is lost" ending... emphasis on *optional*. I think far more interesting than your suggestion, Parah, would be having situations a la Starcraft where you have different options of how to hinder the Reapers and you have to choose which one you take, and based on that decision how the rest of the game plays out changes.

Back on the topic of endings, I think the chance of an "all is lost" ending appearing is pretty good based on what we know so far.

Haha. That was a bit bugged as well. Can you imagine... All the angry threads that arise from that quest and its bugs, just because people wanted to finish the most epic SF RPG in history. :P

Reminds me of "CANNOT BE STOPPED!" guy on Ilos.

It would be very appropriate for ME3 if there was an abyssal failure ending. As long as there is a very good (Everyone survives, Earth is saved etc) ending along with it, a terrible ending with a Reaper victory is welcomed, if not expected.

Absolutely. There should be a lot of different endings, from "everyone's screwed" to "(for the most part) everyone's saved". Each civilization should have the potential for destruction, half-destruction, etc. If this is truly the end of Shepard's arc, they have a lot of room for endings here.

The third game isn´t even out yet, and I already wonder about what new stories they could think about in the ME Universe (ahhh, think of the possibilities ... :D)
