I am more or less optimistic. Maybe this will be a chance for Day to move away from her habit of making herself a Mary Sue in everything she writes.lostspline wrote...
I expected the trailer to be much more cringe-worthy so I'm cautiously optimistic that the web series won't be bad.

I was lead to believe that this would be a premeire, not a trailer. I'm so glad I didn't bother watching/DVRing that.Look for the world premiere of Dragon Age: Redemption this Wednesday, February 16, presented by Felicia Day on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on NBC...
That said, I am looking forward to it coming out, just wish we didn't have to wait for the summer. Oh well, 5 more days till the DA2 demo. That should occupy my time a bit.

Have you watched The Guild?
Cyd is about as far opposite as you can get from a Mary Sue.

Mary Sue? Wtf? Have you actually watched anything she's written, or even acted in? 'Cause that's pretty hard to believe.

I have, any trouble she gets herself into on that show is handwaved away in an instant. Having a few flaws as a character doesn't excuse the fact that it's a clear self-insertion of her own emotions and beliefs.MerinTB wrote...

You know who else draws on their own experiences when writing and develops characters that share some beliefs with their creator? EVERY AUTHOR SINCE THE PRINTED WORD WAS INVENTED.
Not everything is a Mary Sue.

Sharing beliefs isn't the same as her being exactly like her character. I'm not saying the Guild is bad, it works. What I am saying is that I don't need Codex 2.0 in a true Fantasy structure. I don't want her ugly duckling syndrome, her awkward nervousness or any of the other weak character traits in what's meant to be a protagonist you can rally behind. I found myself watching the Guild not for Codex, but for Zaboo or Wil Wheaton because honestly, if I try and focus too hard on Codex for any extended period of time I just feel like not watching it.Face of Evil wrote...

Like how she spends the entire first season unable to communicate for long enough to tell her internet stalker she doesn't want him staying in her house? And how the one guy she actually romantically pursues doesn't end up being into her at all? And how she still doesn't have a job, and got fired from the one that she got when the show started?
Now, let's not lie to ourselves, Cyd is just Felicia Day with a much lower charisma score. But that's not uncommon at all for a sitcome. Liz Lemon is just Tina Fey in the same situation, and so forth.

And I really hope that Jimmy Fallon story about him wanting to play Link isn't true. No offense to Jimmy Fallon, but he would be a terrible Link. I'm sure it was joke...#mordincough#...Yeah.
I should go.

Not everything is a Mary Sue.
Not only are most characters that people call "Mary Sue" not Mary Sues at all...
people are drastically misusing the term.
The link is truth.
Mary Sue's are "perfect" characters who almost always succeed and are the heroes (not in the protagonist sense, but the "saves the day" sense)...
Cyd Sherman perpetually FAILS. The only real win she ever pulled off on her own in the whole series was being the last character alive in the duel in season 3 and winning the duel. Cyd is an Arthur Dent, not a Mary Sue.
*shakes head*
When people so grossly misuse language, even slang, I have no concerns about donning the didactic hat, even at the risk of being called pedantic.
A lot of Felicia is in Cyd, I'm sure. Like obsessively playing an MMO and being able to play the violin. I'm pretty sure that being an unemployed "turning boyfriends gay" neurotic is NOT wish-fulfilment for Felicia Day.

Exactly. The Tina Fey / Liz Lemon comparison is perfect. It's hard for a character to be a Mary Sue when you, the creator, are at least equal to in most ways and superior in all other ways to the character you created.
