As a female gamer, I don't find that all that unusual--used to myself and my friends, after all. ;) I'm a fan because I admire her work and find her to be an interesting, intelligent and charming person who shares my interests, from everything I've heard about her. People who work with her speak very highly of her, and not just in a professional capacity, and that's usually meaningful. So why wouldn't I be a fan?

It felt like a kick to the side when she summed up dragon age with, "It's like lord of the rings."

Well I wouldn't be too upset.

A). She may have been talking to Fallon as one would talk too somebody who might not know what you are talking about.  When I try to explain Tabletop Roleplaying, I usually say, "Ever heard of Dungeons and Dragons?"Name recognition.  I don't know how much of a gamer Fallon is (He did drop Zelda, but Zelda is a well known franchise) so....

And besides B).  It is a little like Lord of the Rings, even if people say that because the Darkspawn kind of look like Tolkeen Orcs and Goblins.  Let's be serious here....  Of course, not too many dragons in Lord of the RIngs.

No. I've been Larping. LARP armour can be pretty nice, but they don't have any real scenery, aside from said forests and tents. At least with this, there's supposedly an Inn, LOL!

I didn't say that I didn't understand, but I thought that a big point of DA2 was to differentiate the series from other aged Icons of the genre.

It just could have been handled better, like, "It's a dark fantasy world, that is influenced majorly off the real world. With concepts that many would tie-in with elves and dwarves and such.

I know that she was on the spot when he asked her that but, irregardless, my side still hurts. :pinched:

The video site won't load, no surprise the site never seemed to work properly for me anyway.

(for reasons I do not understand, but I feel like it's for the same reason people love Tali so much).

Tali is pretty awesome, not getting a similar vibe from this Day character though. Then again Tali's accent is pretty nice..  but then again she is a giant insect... hmm in reality she really isn't that awesome.

I don't understand this fandom either, too many sausages and not enough donuts involved I think.

Also, I think whats happening is (as I've recently been ridiculed by friends for,) I'm just not quite geeky enough for this, which is a shame since I'll probably miss out, but it just doesn't grab me.

I just watched the show on my dvr. First off, Felicia Day is as adorable and geeky as ever.

Secondly, the trailer looks bad***!

Not as good, but it is.

I'm just gonna pray they don't do something as weird and embarrassing for ME3.

Can you imagine CarrotTop playing some spin-off character in some card-board set.

She is definitely geeky, but I had to skip to the trailer, the interview was all over the place and I suspect the audience would have cheered and clapped if one of them just sneezed.

My expectations for LARP are firmly around the level of lighting bolt classic so that trailer was quite a pleasant surprise, in comparison.

Wow. That takes the cake for mean-spirited on a thread that's just full of it.

So does concentrated stupidity. I wouldn't really associate that quote with either, though.

It was a perfectly legit thing for her to say. A lot of people she is talking to on network tv (the Fallon audience) have no clue what Dragon Age is at all. The only fantasy they may know is the most famous stuff like Lord of the Rings so for her to say it's like Lord of the Rings quickly lets the audience know there are elves, some monsters, is probably a medeval type setting.

Sure; it's as legit as saying "It's like WoW" about any MMO in existence, or "It's like Star Wars" when you try to describe ME.

She was trying to describe the game in a way that people who haven't played it could understand. Lord of the Rings is something almost everyone can instantly picture. She couldn't properly describe the greatness of DA in that short of an interview anyways.

I think you're being generous, there. I absolutely ADORE Felicia Day, but I think "it's kind of like Lord of the Rings" is an apt description unless you're a raging forum-crawler who searches for posts comparing the two and then responds with a prepared statement citing every single difference down to the properties of elven eyebrows.

That said, sure, they're different. But I think it's giving Ms. Day too much credit to think that she was dumbing down her answer and that she actually DOES know how the elves' eyebrows are different.

Never compare on a fan site, even if the comparison was a 100% match the fans are still likely to lynch you.

The whole thing looks like someone paid her to film her fanfic, but well I'd totaly jump at the chance to do that too so I can't fault her.

ME basically IS like a cross between Star Wars and Star Trek. There are differentiating elements sure, but at the end of the day many, many comparisons can be made.

ME is more akin to Star Trek actually since it takes place in our universe, not one far away and doesn't contain blatant fantasy elements.

As i said before, a lot of the audience probably knows nothing about any mmo or wow but they do know lotr.

With oh 5 seconds to describe that the series/game is about how would you say it?

Well it;s about a land called thedas, and there is this thing called the blight and there are some things called darkspawn.....all that goes over the heads of the audience.  she simply didn't have any time so the next best thing is to give the audience at least a bit of reference to something many of them will know.  LOTR...oh!  they say, i like that series of movies at the theatre!

I don't even know why people are discussing it.

To pick at something like that is completely retarded, imo.
