And ME1 didn't have any memorable soundtracks at all... outside of Sovereign's theme and Virmire which (gasp!) weren't random synthesizer beeps.

Mass Effect Theme, Form the Wreckage, Spectre Induction, Love Theme, Faunts, Protect the colony, Saren, The Citadel, Normandy; what are you on buddy? You know nothing of music if you say these are random synthesiser beeps, absolutely nothing.

I don't recognize "protect the colony", and some of the others like Normandy, Saren, Spectre Induction, Form the Wreckage... they play for like 30 seconds.  I'm talking about the background stuff that plays during the missions on Ferros, Illos, Noveria, Therum, random side mission planets, etc.

Well that's hardly the entire soundtrack is it?

It's really sad that if someone hears music that stirs an emotion in them, they feel the need to qualify the statement with "I'm not emo"

Really shows where the culture is at

I know.  It makes me cry a little on the inside (im not emo) ;)

But really, I understand your disgust.

I love it when music makes me emotional but i just added that in because someone might think im an emo and i hate it how people think if you listen to music that stirs your emotion's that your an emo.

Music is an acquired taste... I personally didn't hear any music because I was too busy shooting people in the face but that's just me.

ME1's soundtrack was very minimal and I think that puts a lot of people off. I prefer it to ME2's, though I haven't listened to the DLC tracks outside of the game. Now I have even more reason to, as people seem to really enjoy them in this thread. That said, "Vigil" really appeals to my musical tastes. It might be one of my favorite songs... period.

Mass Effect is remembered for having better music due to the credits song which was done by Faunts. My favourite Mass Effect tune was Ilos . Nothing like it in Mass Effect 2.

Mass Effect 2 had some good tunes but it moved away from the unique synth style that was reminiscent of Blade Runner. Also I loved the Normandy SR-1 music and SR-2 felt very bare without a similar tune in the background.

Personally, I think the music from ME:2 is far superior to ME:1. I would think the music from the suicide mission provides a clear example to my point.

Maybe not, but that is what plays throughout the majority of the game.

I liked ME2 soundtrack better. my favorites were "Normandy Reborn" "Suicide Mission" and "Legion." I noticed they played the love theme from ME1 a few times in LotSB.

Another problem I think is that the character music is some of the best in ME2 but we don't hear it enough.

I strongly agree.

That is why in ME2 you get to listen to the music that was in ME1.

The devs are actually trying to trick you into thinking ME2 is good by playing music from ME1 to make you feel like you're back in ME1.  I'd sit there and listen to the ME1 music in ME2 and think "man wtf am I doing here?!", exit game and then play the ending to ME1.

ME2 is good and is a way better game than Mass Effect. I mean cmon compare the majority of ME which consisted of those boring sideplanets and having to jump out the Mako to get good Exp with ME2. I personally prefer the music in ME1 but ME2 was overall a much better game. I am an RPG fan that has played BG1,2, ToB, IWD, Planescape, NWN 2, KoTOR, KoTOR2, ME and I think ME2 is probably better than all of them even BG2.

Ah, brings back fond memories of that soothing c-sec music. I seriously just used to pause the game for a bit and just listen to some of the memorably soothing pieces of ambient music in ME1. I still thoroughly enjoyed the music in ME2, but would love to see more music with the same feel as the music was in ME1 for ME3.

I liked ME1's music better. I felt ME2's music sounded too much like something Hans Zimmer would compose. Nothing wrong with Hans Zimmer at all, however I don't like it when composers try to mimick his works and that's something that happens a little too often. In ME2 I thought it was a bit too obviously inspired by Hans Zimmer.

ME1's soundtrack felt a bit more unique. Maybe unique is not the right word, but it's definitely not a style I hear often in games. I also found it quite catchy and suiting at times, I'm just digging the whole sci-fi feel of it.

Of course that's just my opinion.

That repetitive bland ME1 soundtrack better than ME2's epic memorable soundtrack !?

Sten: No.

ME1's soundtrack is definitely Jack Wall's worst piece yet

This. I only liked 12 out of the 40+ songs in ME1.
