I want to know more about characters before I off them, but since some are obviously not an option (any sibling, or Varric since he is telling the story) the only options are Aveline, Isabella, Fenris, Merril and Anders. I dunno, I still get the feeling Anders is a teddy bear deep down. But someone who is very much a product of the things he's suffered, which have left him bitter and broken. Were I in his position, I might make the same sacrifices in the hope of bringing about change. Borderline evil? I guess you can say that if he's honestly thinking about spilling the blood of innocents to bring the change he desires so badly. But certainly that is more a product of Vengeance than Anders himself, I'd venture to guess. Insane? I don't think so, at least as far as his decision to be a host for Justice is concerned. As far as the integrity of his identity goes though, maybe.

Needless to say, I think Anders is going to be an interesting character, and I wouldn't sacrifice him if I could help it. Nor would I like to sacrifice Aveline or Varric or either of my siblings. Alas...

I don't know them enough to decide. But to me, EVERYONE would be an option - including Bethany/Carver.

Bottom line is that Anders sold his soul to get what he thought he desired and no longer seems bothered about the cost in blood. I have no sympathy for him, and as everyone knows I am very much on his side politically.

I'd want my Warden to come back though the Eluvian and murder-knife Anders (Genitivi style). I left Vigil's Keep all fine and then Anders gets voluntarily possessed and goes on a spree, killing Rolan and others.
He's now in my "Zevran category" in levels of trust... and Zevran is dead in all of my playthroughs.

Edit: Failing that, Varric is next.

Fenris, in a heartbeat. Has some highly visible characteristics of mary sue type characters. Unnaturally white hair. Name based on real world mythology that has no place in the setting. Magical scars burned into his flesh--oooh, so impressive!  

I hate him already.

I will only kill a companion under two circumstances:



1. They betray us.

2. Try to kill us during the initial encounter.

The point is I wouldn't even permit Anders to be a companion if I have any inkling at all about his true nature. The man is an abomination (and by choice). This is from a pro-mage person!

Oh. I forgot that lamer Anders is coming back for DA:2. Forget the hippy tree-hugger. I'd off Anders in a heartbeat. Still breaks my heart that he, out of all the great companions, is the one they choose to return to us in DA:2.

An abomination is a mage inhabited by a demon.  Anders is an abomination.

Personally I wouldn't mind the Inquisitor beheading Varric when he's finished with his story. the whole Narrator thing shows me that I'm going to have to deal with him being alive the entire story.
