Ok, so I've managed to kill Ser Cauthrien with a lot of running around, kiting and swallowing potions as a mad man. But now I'm stuck with the mage and the **** load of archers. They keep stunning me before I can do anything, and in seconds, half my party is dead. I tried everything, but nothing worked fast enough to kill even 1 archer. I tried pulling, but they refuse to be pulled. I'm playing on easy pre-patch on PC, and now patched it, but still no luck. I've tried all sorts of AoE (earthquake, clouds). I tried running past them to the back exit. Nothing works. And I don't have any buffs against arrows or piercing damage or protection against stuns. Did anyone manage this fight, and how?

Time for a surrender, it seems.

Is this for real? My only option is surrender? Did any of you guys kill the lot of them?

Some people killed them, but you really don't have to, if you absolutely want to have Cauthriens stuff, there's another chance to fight her with less backup at a later point.

I already got het stuff. I'm struggling with the rest of the lynch mob: the archers and the mage in that entrance room.

I didn't have to much trouble with the mob you should be able to pull a few allong with her back into the queen's room kill them off then the archers that stand allong the wall the best advice i can give depends on your party setup but something i learned is don't spread your damage out across the board trying to tie up all the mobs i had Sten Alistar me(Rogue) and Morrigain you gotta take them out one at a time and fast the way i managed was to send alistar in shield slam with me rogue allready qued to dirty trick or whatever its called sten is mage bain he is the only one i sent to another mob send him after the mage but have him only use pummel strike i think it's called after as long as you keep the mage on his backside you should be fine another thing that helps that mage if i remember right loves the hexes and life bloom use alistars templar ability to wipe that crap out quick....... hard to give you any real advice i don't know your party setup. myself i enjoyed the harder fights you gotta think a bit more instead of the old school hack and slash cross fingers

Even if the quest is great, it bugs me that I have to die to continue playing through the story :(

The only alternative I seem to have is go back to a save game of several days (real life days) earlier and respec and redo and make sure I get the stuff that is needed for this particular fight. It's not an option I'm willing to do.

You are knocked unconscious by a coward no shame in that of course playing the die-hard and still whiping them is also just plain bad-ass

I dunno, even archers can't interrupt fireballs, and the bigger AOE spells like blizzard and deathcloud don't need LOS, so you can cast them from behind a wall.

Ok, I died, then saw that there was indeed a fun follow up quest, but...I just couldn't get over it. I just HAD to win that fight. I wouldn't mind surrendering with my next character (it's going to be a rogue), but I just couldn't let myself get captured. I just couldn't let this happen and I seriously didn't feel like continuing anymore if I couldn't.

I took a deep breath, had dinner, and then tried again. The above quote gave me an idea during dinner. I didn't know this about LoS, but even then, when I did manage to get off Blizzard and Death Cloud, they didn't help much, because the DoT from it gets outhealed by the darn mage (he has Regenerate). I already tried that. But then I remembered Curse of Mortality (it prevents the target from being healed) and I figured I would cast it - from behind the wall - on the nearest archer so he couldn't get healed. And then cast Blizzard or Death Cloud. And pick off the archers one by one this way. I cast Curse of Mortality from behind the wall, and 'lo and behold...the archer got very pissed and ran towards me with his dagger pulled! In other words, I was able to pull one archer at a time, plus the mage, until there were only 2 archers left, and well, of course...Those were a breeze.

So, now I got the following in my Codex for Ser Cauthrien:
"She was slain while trying to arrest Rayana for the murder of Arl Howe." (Rayana, that my character).

  :wizard:

Thanks all.

Just force field your tank once it has aggro and it's an easy fight.

On a side note are you able to complete your "Main character never falls in battle" achievement if you lose this fight and go to jail or are you forced to escape the mansion successfully to get that achievement?

You can just surrender, and thus not die.

I defeated her and all her men, but for some reason I felt like I wasn't suppose to be able to win that fight, because of how difficult it was.

I ended up reloading the game and going back and surrendering.

I managed to win by keeping Ser Cauthrein in a force field or crushing prison while I took out the other soliders.

It did take the use of a lot of healing items and mana potions and I did have to use revive on alistar a couple times and once on my main character, but I eventually managed to get it down to just Ser Cauthrein herself.

After she was alone it was just a matter of whittling her down. Use of telekinetic weapons really helped to get through the damage reduction on her armor.
