I'm just curious what Bioware would have to do to keep you folks from playing ME3.  In other words, what is the line that cannot be crossed?

Also, what would Bioware have to do to keep you from purchasing the game new?  I'd imagine this would be a little bit less extreme.

For me, there's probably not much they can do or say to keep me from playing ME3.  I suppose one "dealbreaker" might be if I heard something from the devs along the lines of "We've decided to make the game have a multi-player focus, rather than a single-player focus."  That's my (entirely unlikely) nightmare scenario.

I probably would wait to buy a used copy if I the devs said something like "We've decided to include a new set of characters.  The old ones are still present, and have small roles, but when all is said and done, this is Shepard's story, not the squadmates' story."  If this were the case I'd still be curious how the story ends, but I'd likely have much less emotional investment in it.

It's just one game that will cost me about £30 not worth getting that worked up over. Bottom line is what else is around at the time. If there are other games , then I may just wait for bargain bin time.

Another level re-set might motivate me in that direction, but like I said depends what else is around.

Major:

Multiplayer that detracts from the SP experience.

Whole new bunch of squaddies I have to go out and recruit, and gain their loyalty.

Lazarus Project Mk 2

Normandy SR-3

Interactive space combat that ignores the laws of physics (ie Star Wars/Star Trek style)

If Bioware comes to my house and slaughters my whole family during Easter dinner, that would make me wait for bargain bin.

Making ME2 pointless.

Guess that goes under having to recruit new people. I dont mine a few replacements because i expect the 2 DLC characters to be cameos as it is. But i dont want to have to replace my whole team i worked hard to earn in ME2.

But overall most of the stuff i am concerned with are stuff i wont really know about unless i purchase the game and play it lol. Anyways I owe Bioware for bringing ME2 to the PS3, I was seriously about to get a 360 for ME1 and ME2 lol.

ME3 - pay-to-play MMO.

ME3 - now a soccer simulator instead of space RPG

ME3 - save the day by winning mako races against progressively harder reaper opponents!

ME3 - now primarily a Japanese-style dating simulator with the save the galaxy plotline just an optional side mission to get bonus points with the ladies.

if i have to recruit anyone else, i'll just fight the reapers myself. i already trust this group, if uneasily in some cases, and I dont want to have to do any more pointless loyalty missions. if they tie personal stories into the main plot, then fine. but I Will Not ever again do something like jacob's LM. In fact, thats why he has died in every playthrough i've done except for my first one.

Uhh not sure. Having played the first two games I kinda want to finish it, especially since these are not tacked on sequels like say bioshock 2, it is a proper trilogy. It’s like watching the first 2 lord of the rings movies but never seeing the last. Even if the last one looks bad you already came this far but that might be just me. I will most likely wait for a price drop tho the wait will kill me. Nothing to do with bioware, I don't buy new releases cause they cost too much. I have promised myself that I will never be desperate enough for a video game to pay $130 NZD (which is what most new release big titles go for now) for it. Hopefully I can keep to that.
If they do something really bad like I dunno...have it MMO or suddenly turn it into a Mario style plat former with a completely linear plot and old school graphics then I would not buy. Pretty damn sure thats not going to happen tho.

I should probably point out that I will get this game regardless as I want to complete the trilogy, I also plan to stay the hell away from these forums when the game draws near to avoid spoilers.

However, things that may make me wait until it's cheap, buy second hand or rent:

- Making ME1 and ME2 choices seem overall irrelevant.
- Making another race that is similar to the Reapers but are good and fighting against them.
- Making all the characters from ME1 and 2 who can die only have cameo/email roles.
- Making all the characters from ME1 and 2 squad members, but interchangeable (like Kaidan/Ash in ME2).
- Having the game centered around Earth/Humanity.

-That we will have to re-recruit current squadmates. Having to go out and find a few wouldn't be so bad, but simply copy/pasting ME2's basic gameplay would be ridiculous...

-Also, not being able to recruit Ash or Kaidan (and Liara, but I can understand how that'd be a bit trickier).

-Copy/pasting dialogue for multiple characters wouldn't be too awesome either...

I mean that as long as  the entire game isn't about:
"OMGZ da Reapers are invading da Earth!"
"Yes, they are also invading Thessia, Illium, Tuchanka..."
"Who cares? HUMANITY is at stake!"

In Mass Effect 1 you were not stopping Sovereign, Saren and the geth for humanities sake, you were doing it for all intelligent life in the galaxy, you could even choose to save other races and sacrifice humans doing it.

In Mass Effect 2 this threat seems scaled down because only humans seem to be the target, with a BS reason such as "Humans killed a Reaper so they see humans as a threat".

If Mass Effect 3 ends up about Earth being some special place (like Halo 3) and humans being the arch-nemesis of the Reapers then it's just gone down in scale even more.

The game needs to be about Shepard, humans and everyone else fighting the Reapers. Making humans special for whatever reason is a tired and overused cliche.

If I find out that EA has pulled a greed move and upped the ante at the last minute to charge $60+ for the frelling thing just because they figure that's what the market will bear.

If I find out that they have swapped out voice talent and now maleShep is voiced by Vin Diesel while femShep is voiced by Paris Hilton. End of line.

This. And these *are* the real dangers IMO. They've already booted Jack Wall, who knows what will happen next!

Multiplayer, a cameo'd squad, and a botched/contrived storyline would prevent me from purchasing the game. Additionally, I don't want ME3 to be basically ME1 or 2 all over again. I can still play the first two games back to back because they are so different from each other.

They'll never tell such things before release.

I think only one thing can keep me from purchasing the game - multiplayer. If there is this "chosen-race" thing or Ninja-effect with Reapers I'll be pissed off, but game already will be bought.

Worst case scenario: the PC version is a poor console port. Fat chance of that, though.

Oh, I don't know. I'm pretty committed to playing ME3. I suppose if I found out that there wasn't actually a game on the disk and when you put it in it was just Bioware giving you the middle finger, I'd be pretty ticked off.

By far Nr.1 dealbreaker for me would be : A New Squad
...
Nr.2: ME1 and Me2 choices are irrelevant
