Yes, a suicide mission which meant virtually nothing to the overall
story. By the end of ME2 you are in the exact same position you left off
at the end of ME1. With the exception of having a new ship and crew.
Get what I`m saying here?
I'm not arguing with you. The whole point of ME2 seems to have been nothing more then a very entertaining intermission, with lots more pew pew pew to get those who love Gears of War on board for ME3. Seriously this is what I honestly believe. Not saying it's bad, it's just about the only meaningful thing we learned was that the Protheans got turned into the Collectors and apparently failed Reaperification.
Then the other reveal is the Human Reaper. Frankly it should be obvious from Sovereign's speel on Virmire that Reapers are made/come from various sentient species. I mean I didn't fully understabd the first time either, but replaying the game kind of made it clear that they harvest species to make more of themselves. Hence the whole imposing order on organic life because machines are better bla bla bla. The idea of a Human Reaper desn't bother me at all in the slightest and I can't say I was totally surprised. Though frankly I thought the Collectors we're just making us into Husk things to eliminate the human threat. My issue is what the heck did they think they could achieve with one Reaper?
But if you think just because ME2 was mostly pointless in plot
devlopment that you'll still have the same (or most of the same)
squadmates you don't know Bioware very well. I'm stocking up on popcorn right now cause in a few months you're all going to find out the painful truth.
Anyways on topic...

ME1 doesn't matter anymore thanks to the PS3 version.
This is my biggest concern. The Genesis comic really makes me wonder if anyone working on ME3 now gives a flying hoot about ME1 anymore. They pretty much disregarded half the game and can't even seem to keep the character biographies. Kaidan Alenko is not a "kid" he's older then Cmdr. Shepard. Perhaps they just confuzzled Alenko with Jenkins? Still doesn't make it any better. Anyways I'm not here to get into a rant about Genesis or the PS3 version of the game.
It just seems given all indications so far Bioware doesn't really care what happens in the previous games. I will be very let down if in ME3 the actions I made in ME2 and even ME1 have no significant outcomes in ME3. I would like to see if sparing the Rachni makes a difference or how saving or not saving the Council effects things in ME3. I don't expect the main plot to drastically change, but I expect a helluva lot more then just an "email". I would like to see some different missions, items, etc. Something meaningful you know?
Bioware would be stupid not to anyways. The more impact each game has on the final installment the more it seems "necessary" for gamers to own the entire series to truly shape their Mass Effect adventure. In simplest terms more people buying ME1 and ME2 means more money for Bioware/EA.
Yes each game needs to be playable on its own, but don't disregard your fans that have stuck with you Bioware. You already did that perhaps a bit too much with ME2. I can live with a new crew for ME3, but if ME1 becomess essentially meaningless I'm going to be pissed.
