The only true "dealbreaker" for me would be not being able to import Shepard save from ME/ME2. As I'm about 99.999% sure we'll be able to import our save I'll probably be waiting at GameStop at midnite to buy it.

To be honest, there isn't much that is a deal breaker for me. Multiplayer and a campaign that is 5-10 hours would be a major deal breaker. Hell even 20 hours of gameplay would be incredibly disappointing. I would hope that Bioware goes all out like they did back in the day and have an 80-100 hr. campaign for ME3

Maybe if it is revealed that Shepard is the last of an ancient race.

Another deal breaker for me is if Mac Walters starts to take these huge liberties in fixing the story, like retcons and like. he is the lead writer and it all rest ultimately on his shoulders. Reading the comics he's written, im not so impressed and im starting to fear what the ME3 story brings.

Nothing really, I already know it won't be what I'd hoped for.
It's just a game at this point, nothing more nothing less.

1) The retail price for the Standard Edition exceeds $59.99 USD in the US.

Humanity, Earth-centric story instead of galaxy encompassing scale, or that saving humans is somehow the key ie humanity is special somehow (overused concept already)
If I have to recruit a whole new squad - I'm open to recruiting 2 or 3 entirely new characters and maybe a mission or two to bring old squad mates from ME back into the fold, like Liara (if that's possible), or Ashley or Kaidan, or Wrex.
Time Travel
A reset/Shepard dies again and has to be reresurrected.

Bioware employees: -gun down entire family in cold blood-
Me:
Bioware employees: Mass Effect 3? -one holds up a copy-
Me: Aw, I could never stay mad at you guys

Really they'd have to go out of their way to keep me from buying the game. No matter what they do to the story, I'm buying it. I have far too much invested into my Shepard to not have an ending to her story.
About the only thing they could do which would keep me from buying the game is if they went with some sort of insane DRM system on the PC version like the Ubisoft one where you have to be connected to the net at all times to play the game.

Yeah I forgot about time travel....the closets thing I want to get to time travel is shep links with a beacon and then we're mentally transported back in time as a prothean working on some big experiment then after the beacon explodes shep goes and looks for the place in his/her own time.
And if the main story arch plot is only 30hrs long 4 planets each I'm returning it!

Although I'd hate time-travel, I'd actually be interested to play at different points in time. I realize that cost would be a factor, but I'd love to see a flashback mini-mission of Anderson during his Spector-try-out, Saren when he discovers the Reapers, and/or Shepard during one of his/her historic missions on Akuze, the Blitz, or Torfan.

Not bringing back the crew from ME1 (except where it may make sense not to have them... like Wrex)... not having Liara as a recruitable (unless she still plays a major, visible role in the game).

Having the VS come back as a squaddie. (Don't hate me. I just didn't like them.) Not having Tali as a squaddie. (Yes yes I'm a Talimancer)

I don't hate ANYONE for not picking a VS as one of their favorites, but really, Digoothe, having him or her back in ME3 as a squad-mate would be a DEALBREAKER!? I personally can't stand a certain Drell assassin, but that isn't going to keep me from buying the game should he still be hanging around.

I think a VS will provide closure. It's an important story arc.

There is only one thing and that is shepard having mutant hybrid offspring with an alien love interest (other than liara)

@ thatguy212 -- Don't forget, Shepard DID get a breeding request on the Krogan home-world.
I'm thinking it was Wrex.

Dealbreakers, huh? Well, I don't want them to continue simplifying the gearing/leveling system. Please. No. I actually kind of enjoying gearing the rest of my squad. But, that's a gripe for another thread. Beyond that, I think a dealbreaker would be having to spend most of the game assembling a new squad. ME1? You pretty much had your entire squad at around the 15-25% mark. In ME2? You finish up the squad at like... what? 2 hours out from finishing the game? An hour and a half? That's harsh.
Other things include: Shepard dying at the onset of the game. An entirely new squad. (All returning characters are merely for the sake of cameos like Wrex, Liara (pre-Shadow Broker) and Kaidan/Ashley).

i don't know if there are any! Bioware has yet to disappoint, and i doubt they follow up ME2 (arguably the best game of 2010/decade) with some BS strung together with fan service and crowd pleasers. Bioware is in the business of making good games and building communities~
let's have a little faith!

I think that the good thing about these forums is that they let people vent. Sometimes I write down demands and complaints and come back weeks later and realize how petty I sounded. Of course, sometimes I sang BioWare's praises and I look back now and realize that, wow, that boy needs a life. And while there's always a danger of finding a few trolls, I'm always happy to let other players help me put it all back into proper perspective.
