I'm surprised the templars hasn't pushed more for this!

What you would loose is access to modern medicine and a powerful force in your army so it only works if all other countries do so as well. Otherwise you will quickly be overtaken by your neighbour while you and your army slowly bleeds to death. ;-)

If all mages were killed, it would actually force people to get off their tush and learn modern medicine instead of relying on a literally magical force. Countires would still win and lose wars with and without mages. Quickly overtaken by your neighbor? Sounds like someone was either relying a little too much on mages, or just didnt bother to form any sort of competent army. At all.

Well, the only existing theory regarding the creation of the darkspawn is that power hungry mages created them ;)

Because of course, the chantry wouldn't have squashed out competing theories, big powerful mideaval churches never do that!

The dwarves haven't got a clue, and they live next door

The Dwarves don't care about humans, and they believe the Chantry theory on how Darkspawn were made, is hogwosh.

And yet they couldn't be bothered to come up with something better

Come up? So you admit the Chantry is making this up? The Dwarves know everything there is to know about Darkspawn. The Chantry rarely if ever has to deal with them. What makes the Chantry such experts on the subject?

The... eh... Maker told them about it?

The Maker told them? I thought the maker didn't care to meddle in the affair of mortals. Is their some other secret prophet besides Andraste we haven't heard about?

Uh, dude, you realize that the humans on thedas still benefit from those actions, and the elves still suffer for it, right? Every human in thedas is walking on elven land, and their chantry makes it impossible for dalish to settle down (for one thing because they'd probably start going after their keepers more), and the elves that live in cities are still oppressed.

Uh dude. Every American is walking on Indian land. Every American is benefiting from Indian suffering. The chantry does not make it impossible for the Elves to settle down, it is the elves own choice to wander as they do. The Elves that live in cities let themselves be oppressed.

Its the same damn story in almost every country on this earth. Most countries today live on the land they do because they conquered someone elses. It happens in history, it happens in religion, and yet people today didnt do it.

Or should I be cursed at and called names because someone from my country killed and enslaved people centuries ago? I'm not saying the elves should be all lovey dovey with humans. But they should least acknowledge that I never took their homeland from them. (Eyeroll)

America is a horrible example to use if you're trying to defend the humans considering America still treats first nation people horribly. You should be cursed at and called names because you reap the benefits from the stealing and enslavement, you're still higher up on the rung in socioty than elves, no matter what they do.

Let themselves get oppressed? What do you think they should do, go around murdering all the humans? Isn't that exactly what you're freaking complaining about?
"THE ELVES ARE TOO MEAN TO HUMANS"
"ALSO THEY'RE NOT MEAN ENOUGH WHICH IS WHY OPPRESSING THEM IS FINE!"

There must be free land for the elves somewhere away from humans? In the Anderfels, perhaps. The age of the elves has long passed, and it's time they stop trying to fight that simple fact

If there was free land, they probably would have taken it already. And how exactly are they trying to fight that fact? They're not waging war on humans, they're just trying to keep their culture from being entirely ripped away from them.

The mage gene has to potential of being passed on in any Human, or elf. Unless you plan on killing every single human and elf in the dragon age world there will always be magic. Besides if you have no mages or magic how are you going to fight demons?

Demons will still come even though there are no Mages around. Demons can appear where ever blood has been shed the most. It being the middle ages, I don't see war coming to a sudden halt. The lack of Mages, and magic would actually give the Demons an advantage in the long run.

I only recall one elf in DA:O who was completely racist towards humans and that was the Dalish storyteller, and Velanna in Awakenings, all the others just seemed various degrees of wary of humanity (which isn't really surprising). Even Zathrian's hatred was more focused on the descendants of those who killed his family rather then humanity as a whole. I honestly never found this attitude some describe of elves blaming my human characters for everything, and found a number more postive to making moves to begin interacting with humanity more Layana and the Dalish merchant for example (he seemed to approve of the idea proposed by the Dalish Warden's father that the Dalish should interact with humanity more). And interestingly in Awakenings, Velannna is cast out of her clan because of her uncontrolled hatred of humanity.

Compared with the degree of racism I encountered as a elven character (Dalish or City Elf) from a variety of humans (from the sadistic like Vaughan and co), to generally being looked down on (Isolde and the Quatermaster), to the unconscious racism of the ferryman at lake Calahad (or even Leliana to start with) I think it's really chalk and chess between how elves generally treat humans as a whole and vis versa. Though this is in my play experience however, so maybe it really was different for others.

I vaguely remember one of devs comment on the elves where they said that they plan "great things" for them. Interpret that as you like.

I wasn't actually serious about killing all mages because of this very fact. I was just responding on how helpless the guy I was quoting seems to think humanity would be without mages. Modern medicine would flourish as they would no longer rely on the instant healing of mages. The chantry would lose one of the main sources of power it holds, leaving templars without a purpose. Countries would no long have to worry about their armies burning at the flip of a hand, burning horrendously instead of bleeding "slowly to death."

You have a point with the demons though.

As a Mage I would agree with killing the specific Magi that you're referring to.  Clearly they were amateurs.  Any self respecting Mage would have done for you too.

If you didn't want your babies sacrificed, you shouldn't have let them run around completely unarmored and without wards.  They were asking for it.

Well actually modern medicine would decline without mages.. Who do you think makes all the medicine, and herbs? Besides using regular medicine would be a down grade. A healing poltice which can only be made with magic can cure someone who got their neck cut open*read the Fenris story in the romance thread*.

Mages are the scientists, and scholars of Thedas. Mages are needed for growth, and advancement. Yes even technological advancement. Technology combined with Magic would be extremely potent(and awesome).

Oh! I agree (even while I'm a mage). But still if you to this only in one country/reigon thenyou weaken your army and your protection. Imagine going to battle against a foe that can instantly heal large groups of their soldiers, revive their important generals even from death while hailing down fire from above and temporarily controlling your generals to betray you. Would you like to fight an enemy like this?

So it's impractical to kill all of us and clearly royalty and men in power has use for us and in peace time we can still provide a great service to society. What is surprising to me is that so much if this power has been allowed to be under the Templars... os sorry Chantry's power :-)

Seriously, this amateur crap won't cut it!  If you're going to paint the walls of a family's hovel in the blood of virtuous Andrastians for a demon-summonig blood rite, use all your available resources!  Maker, wasteful idiots...

Well I say burn the witch! And also there should be a geneva convention for mages! No longer shall armies have to suffer from a mages fire! Or frozen to death! or crushed by an invisible prison! Death to the mages! :P

Oh the quanri's seem like a people who would def. live up to their side of a treaty :-)

But yeah a U.N is needed with accords that people live buy. Then you need a super power willing to enforce the treaties (by maintaing their own nuclear arsenal; while forbidding everyone else to research it). It's not a bad goal and something worth fighting for!

Heh, I got that achievement with my warrior... and I've broken that amount with all three classes.

Damned mages stealing all the glory.
