Either that or you try to move Bianca from Varric's Inventory and the *Your Journey has Ended* load a save game screen just pops up.

I take one 'lil media blackout (which, apparently, I fail at) and everything changes! I'll have to go read the details of the confirmation we never wanted later, but for now a /salute to the previous thread and the many posts in support of a romance with the unique Dwarf companion we already love. Here's to many more posts in support of that lofty goal for DA3!

I broke my blackout because a copy of the PC Gamer review (I'm sure someone else has already posted about it but hey!) fell into my hands and I read some stuff that (I thought) heavily hinted at romance with Varric. Pointless to post it now as I was obviously misreading it, but definitely a double dream crusher finding this out now!

In a way Varric having a legendary threads on here makes a lot of sense, at the end of the day a forum is about sharing stories and news with other people both known to you and new, which is exactly what Varric seems to thrive on, and certainly one of the character traits of his revealed so far that I find most appealing.



Other than his glorious chest hair of course (there was even a mention of that in the review as well).

If DA3 wasn't Hawke-centric, I'd jump at the chance to play a dwarf character again. Now they're going the voice protagonist route, I don't see this happening for three different main characters due to cost. Having said that, without actually knowing Varric's character yet, I'd still want a new dwarf mascot for DA3. Varric is going to be great, but he'd define DA2 the way Oghren defines DA1. I'd want to have more awesome dwarves cropping up so I'd support a dwarf-romance in DA3, not specifically Varric. If that makes sense? I reserve the right to change my mind after DA2 comes out though! =p

Man, reading the 'final days' of the Varric Thread 2.0 was almost heart wrenching. Glad to see there wasn't a riot or anything though, that isn't the Varric way. I think most of us suspected it would go this way, but it was nice to hope for a while.



Would definitely like to see a short story for Varric and Aveline (and Seb?) though, see no reason why it should be LI specific.



I must admit that if I had to pick another guy to lose Varric's LI status to it would have to be Anders, so I'm glad to see he's in. I just wish I'd been able to avoid spoilers a bit longer! Just. This. Once.

Funny thought popped into my head as the DA3 protaginist being Varric! The tone icons would have to be Diplomatic/suave, Full out Super Snark, and Aggressive Snark...... oh but, the downside would be no Varric romance....... Oh well it'd still be hilarious

You know he's the narrator, right? The one telling the story of the past in the game's present? If you kill him it's like... instant time paradox game over. And then you don't get Bianca anyway.

I've been saying this since I saw they cast Richard Armitage as Thorin! Bioware are going to find people look at Dwarves quite differently after the Hobbit gets released I think/hope. Especially with Aidan Turner being in it /lovesBeingHuman. Maybe there will be hope for a change in the preconceptions surrounding them for DA3! And afterall, it didn't seem like Anders would ever be a LI at one point either.

I did wonder about the justice thing by the way, guess I should have twigged it meant Anders but I only found out he was definitely in the game today as well!

Right after that quote he mentions being 'spoiled for choice' and then namechecks Varric and Merrill (by which point he must have shifted and just be talking about companions in general). It just gave me some hope that we might actually get what we hoped for. Then I came here.

I gotta say, I think Varric's awesome and all, I'd also be willing to bet he'll end up being my favorite DA2 companion.

BUT if I had to pick between Ander's and Varric as an LI, I would pick Anders over Varric. I would do so as a gamer, a HUGE fan of dwarfs, and a dev (if I was in their position). Varric is cool and would make a great LI, but there's just so much more potential in Anders as an LI. There's just so much more you can do with a mage on the run combating an inner demon (an ACTUAL inner demon mind you).

If I had my choice Fenris would get the boot. He's fighting figuarative inner demons... thats just done to death. Varric would be the fun LI to counter Anders being the dark LI.

Of course, in the perfect world they would all be romancible.

It replaces the murder knife. He either guts 'em with the blade he's got at the end, or just shoots 'em point blank

Having single race limitation in mind, DA3 with qunari protagonist and the game set in their lands and/or around another war with rest of Thedas could be pretty neat.

Agreed.
2 games (and an expansion) and no love for dwarfs? I was hoping all you ladies would get Varric as a LI, but kinda knew the devs wouldn't go that route. A bit dissapointed at this, since I was pushing for a female dwarf LI since DA1, maybe  in DA3, but even then i'm not going to get my hopes up to much.

There's still hope for DA3. Bioware has said that they were surprised with Varric's popularity... We just have to show them that we want it (him as an LI).

It would be odd at least. And you'd probably be limited to male if you want to fight, unless you're going to be Tal'Vashoth.

Anyways, I don't think Hawke will be in any sequels (as PC, the person will exist).

I know it's not the same game and universe, but characters from ME1 were back in ME2... so maybe they'll make something up so that some characters from DA/DA2 will come back in DA3 (Varric included)... we can always hope.

The "diplomatic division" is the highest ranking warrior present, pretty much. I highly doubt females would be sent to the front lines (unless only to unload supplies and such).

I'd imagine if someone got stuck to the bayonet, Varric woul just pop off a crossbow bolt into them to knock them off.  No need for added structural stress to Bianca.  And no need to get a fancy jacket messy.

However, Bianca's design seems to be frontloaded. Either she's already loaded, or Varric doesn't have room to load her.

Not sure if we're thinking of the same thing -- a hornless qunari is viewed as someone born for 'the higher goals', like serving as envoy to other races. I don't know if such position would be restricted to males only, and being an envoy may override the whole concept of just males being sent towards the front lines.

As far as fighting itself goes, in terms of game mechanics it can be relatively easily resolved with having "bodyguard(s)" of the character fight for her. Essentially making it "pet class" which isn't uncommon and could actually expand the narrow range of classes DA has to offer.

(there's also alternative of having two characters at the core of the game -- the envoy and her bodyguard, and you get to play either depending which gender you choose... not that unsimilar from the whole Carver/Bethany thing DA2 sicks on you. But that's getting too far off tangent, i think)
