Mostly because it's fun. It allows for a great deal of sillyness.

Hi Varric Thread! I'm new but I'm a huge fan of Varric and have lurked through this thread (and the previous one after it closed ><) for quite some time

Varric's chest hair is simply marvelous! You never actually see characters in video games baring it for us, usually it's either children or pretty boys that are given focus on soooooo let's enjoy the sight of it all

So, I wasn't really sure what the big deal was about Varric, but after playing the demo and getting a load of the guy myself, I have to say I am a convert. He really has the suave attitude down pat, a good fashion sense, a flair for the dramatic, and well groomed chest hair. As a fellow man of the chest, I can tell you, I appreciate it when our kind is properly portrayed in the media.



Not only do I approve of this character, but I imagine he, I, and the pantsless pirate will be burning our faces into the dreams, fantasies and nightmares of everyone worth knowing in the city of chains. Breaking hearts and taking names.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but I was looking through the demo files to see if the cutscene videos were viewable outside the game, and found a video that had been left in from an early version of the game. There's no sound, but it's interesting to see how much the characters have progressed, it looks very much like that first screenshot we saw at one the conventions.

Varric looks a ton better now, his initial incarnation was pretty ugly. Cassandra has her original crazy-eyed appearance with the slicked-back dark hair.

Just out of curiosity, did you play this on a ps3?  The character models for Varric and Cassandra look very different from my pc.  I know that there was a very distinct difference in Awakenings between the character models for the ps3 and the pc.  This is what makes me think you are using the ps3 here.

Er... read my post again. These aren't the in-game cutscenes, they're extra ones that appear to have been accidentally included with the demo files from an early build. You can only view them outside the game in Rad Video Tools.
