So I did the crazy, stupid thing and picked up DA2 at a midnight release. So far I am very happy. Just got to Kirkwall and picked up Varric. He is just soooo suave! Now I'm going to get a little sleep and dream of luscious chest hair. I hope you guys enjoy the game as much as I am.

Although, considering the general reaction towards Varric in the reviews, I hope he changes some minds about dwarvenhood in the medium.
I want to play as a Dwarf again, dammit.

I think we should wait until Europe has their game in hand. This would only be fair. I think the 11th would be a better date. Europe will be able to unlock their copies on the 10th. Also, this way we can all have a major squee fest as we play over the weekend without having to worry about spoilers here in the general discussion.

Edit:  We should also check with Named to see if she woul rather have this thread moved or if we should start a new one.  Since she is the OP of this thread, the decision should be hers. :happy:

So the gamespot review says Varric isn't as good as Oghren... that surprised me a bit... but I love Oghren and I'm sure I'll love Varric.

Hah, this just re-affirms how I never seem to agree with Gamespot reviewers on pretty much anything. I didn't mind Oghren, I was even happy to see him back in Awakening, but I'll eat my hat (again) if I come away from DA2 thinking he was better than Varric. Fart jokes and being a crap husband with a serious drinking problem just don't compare to a pulp adventure novel writer, storyteller and buisnessdwarf with 'dat smirk', a great and unconventional style, and a giant crossbow called Bianca.

I have to agree with Apollo.  Ogrhen was amusing in small chunks.  Varric has long-term appeal.  I will definitely keep him around as my main rogue.  I can't wait for today to finish so I can go home and play.  Varric is waiting for me.

That's why I suggested 15th, by then most of us would have the game long delivered to their doorstep already. For example, mine is released on the 8th but won't arrive until 9th or 10th...

Of course it's Moon's decision at the end of the day, I am just suggesting.

I've been playing for about 5 hours now and Varric is every bit as charming as we had hoped. He talks to Bianca during battle, and he even flirts a bit at least with my fem Hawke, Valkyr. Dog am I beat! I need to get some shut eye now. Can't wait til I get home from work tomorrow.

I love that banter! I found a spot in Darktown where you can get your party members to banter. It's near the exit.

Edit: I also found that the Varric/Anders combo in your party is over the top epic.

I love how Varric banters with Hawke after combat, "I've killed ...How many have you killed Hawke?" Priceless! I actually killed him during a battle and when he revived he said, "I'm too young and pretty to die."
