Varric shot Gascard right in the chest once he admitted that he wanted to learn from the serial killer guy, with no bidding from Hawke.  I was so touched.  Varric always has Hawke's back.

I always end up killing Gascard so I never get that scene, yet I believe whole heartedly that Varric is my Hawke's best friend. I imagine when she's not at home she's over at the Hanged Man, giving Varric fodder for his latest tall tales. He has her back, no matter what. Even though he doesn't want to get in the middle of the mage v. templar thing, he sticks with you. Which, I know that's because he's the narrator, but it doesn't feel that way in game. At least to me. He was one of the first people I maxed out on the friendship meter, the others were Aveline and Fenris (which I did on a mage playthrough as well, because I hated blood mages and didn't even entertain talking to demons, which he approved of...I also let him phase through some slavers chest to get him to talk. He liked that, but I digress).

I knew I would like Varric. But I never expected I would feel like he was Hawke's best friend Makes me tear up a little. We were also sarcasm buddies. I always knew he would take my jokes well. Aveline would stare at me funny if I tried. I didn't even try with Fenris until I already securied his affections. lol

I didn't think I would end up liking Varric as much as I did. I think his exaggerated quest is what cemented it for me, but there's other moments where I just found myself agreeing with Varric on most issues.

Especially towards the end when he went "I'm sick of mages and templars." At that point, I knew he was the wisest character in the game. Hehe.

But yeah. Varric's awesome. I wish there was more interaction with him on his back story and all of that.

-Page 2 -- Another 11 people posting him as a fave, again not including the runner's up faves...
-14 faves on page 3!!!! Quite a few people have said really nice things about him, if Mary has seen the fave companions thread, I bet she's freaking happy because I know I am...

-Another 14 on page 4. Also, if you're wondering why I am doing this, it's because I am bored and it's a holiday where I am.

-I think it's 10 on page 5. I might have missed one... Oh well...

Hello back. I never really posted on the forum, except on Fenris' once or twice. I didn't know enough about the game to post informed arguments/speculations/anything else, so I remained mostly silent. Now that I've played I've actually posted quite a bit here and there. Thought I would come on over to Varric's thread to show my love.

At the end it made me sad that Varric couldn't stick around with Hawke and Fenris. He would have made a nice edition to my party. How else is he going to be able to make up outlandish stories if he isn't around her and Fenris? Hmm? He needs to catch up to them quick! lol

Before I played I thought Varric looked pretty cool and I had a laugh at how in love with him people were in the Varric thread and all the fanart and such. But now I've played ... I love Varric. He's my best buddy, a laugh to be around but he's always got Hawke's back no matter what. It's fantastic. They probably didn't make him romancable because he would be the most awesome boyfriend ever and nobody would bother with anyone else. Seriously, he's just the nicest guy. I want more Varric ... if there's another game (which the ending suggests there is) I want Varric as a full companion again for my Hawke. Until then, I want Varric DLC by the bucketload. Having him, Aveline and Carver stick by me in the end was the best thing in a rather depressing game lol
I cannot fangirl enough about this dwarf, he's absolutely fantastic.

Hello everyone! Been lurking for months and I've finally decided to pop in!

Varric is, by FAR, my favorite character in DA2. He needs to pull an Anders and become romancable in the next game. He was protective and kind but didn't make a big show of it, like he didn't need recognition. Now that's a REAL man...dwarf!

And it's hard not to like the guy. I think Bioware went out of their way to make him a character that most people can appreciate, since he's the narrator of the story.

Well, look at who she can be attracted to:  A blood mage, an abomination, a mage-hating former slave and a pirate queen who seems to be a cross between Jack Sparrow and Han Solo, and a squeaky clean would-be monk boy.

Hawke's got issues.  Though, that doesn't mean Varric can't change his mind in 3.
