I think she meant more the people who were like "HE LOOKS LIKE A PEDOPHILE", "HE LOOKS LIKE A SLEAZY GRASEBAG" and stuff. Mostly the people that wanted Anders and Fenris for LI and hated the idea of having a dwarf romance.

Which is funny because those people tend to like him a lot now.

Ah I see, so you guys dealt with a lot of that too then early on. While you got that Merrill essentially got things like "She's a twelve year old!" constantly. It was a tad frustrating.

Ah, finally registered my game so i can post in this thread. I see that I'm not the only one having trouble triggering the heart dialogue options with Varric. Any tips? I am determined to flirt with my favorite dwarf at any and every given opportunity, but my game is not permitting it. Oh, my poor lovestruck Hawke...

Right. You can flirt with him if you get the heart options. They don't show up for me. Others have been having the same issue, it seems. I get hearts for all the other characters, including Varric's fellow non-romanceable NPC Aveline... but no hearts in Varric conversations. I'm wondering if it's a bug or if I did something wrong in my early conversations with him in Act 1.

I was able to flirt with Varric once. Haven't seen the option come up since. If Hawke can't get in his pants, maybe my female dwarf warden will be able to if they ever cross paths.

Oh interesting, Varric never turned on my Hawke in the Fade... I tried a variety of companion combinations, too, to test it out... I even just took Varric once and still he stayed loyal. I wonder if that's because I had him at 100% friendship by mid way through Act 1 or so. Possibly?

Probably. He didn't turn on me, either. I had Fenris and Anders, too. The only one who turned was Fenris. His Rivalry wasn't high enough.

Well, if there's just the one chance dependent on him turning on Hawke in the Fade, then I'm not too sad to have missed it. I'll take solid loyalty over one flirt line. It just seemed strange that there were no heart options for him because I flirted with Aveline a ton, especially while helping her get with Donnic... there must have been at least 10 heart options with her.
