The friendship/rivalry paths have taught me that I'm an enabler.

After it was over his first words were:
"Bianca, are you alright? I'm so sorry, babe."

That's one thing I really like about all the companions. They have a life away from Hawke. Though I'd love some DLC with some poker mini games with all the companions.

Yeah it's one of the reasons they feel more 'real' to me than most of the Origins companions. At least in certain ways. Plus thanks to the artistic talent we've had pumping out brilliant fan works for months now (Pseudo and Aimo in particular for this thread) I had a whole bunch of imagery rush to the forefront of my mind when certain things were discussed, the poker especially. Two examples of Pseudo's art, the poker drawing and a sketch with Isabela and Varric in a drinking contest, were in my thoughts a lot of the time.
On an unrelated note Varric does highlight one of the things I was less keen on in the game sadly, whenever he is in his room at the Hanged Man I just want to pick his brains on various topics and have him tell me stories. I'd pay for a DLC that just added new dialogue with him, he's that much fun to talk to.

We're also looking for one more admin ^^
EDIT: "There was a girl, and I made a promise. Bianca is the only story I can never tell."
This sentence uttered by Varric is somewhat romantic yet VERY VERY mysterious... We will be waiting, Mary...

It would be nice to just chat with Varric and the other companions. That's the one aspect of DA:O that I really miss; also being able to kiss your love interest.<3 I do however enjoy walking in on our companions having discussions. I absolutely love the scene where Aveline and Isabella are going at it. It's also nice to see Anders get out a bit.

You could replace Fen with any other companion and the phrase still applies.Anarya wrote...
Aw I love Fen and Varric banters. They're buddies
Varric is everybody's bro. He can't avoid it.
Is there a way to even gain rivalry with Varric? I never managed. I reached full friendship with him before topping even Bethany.Mary Kirby wrote...
None. You always talk sense into him if you don't give him the shard.sweetie wrote...
How many Varric friend points do you lose if you refuse to give him the idol shard?

Grand Cleric Elthina: "It was a near thing, what happened in Ferelden. But in the end, the Maker stepped in."
Dialogue wheel: [That wasn't the Maker] (I picked this because dwarves don't believe in the Maker, nyah!)
Hawke: "The Hero of Ferelden stopped the Blight. The Maker had nothing to do with it."
Grand Cleric Elthina: "Sometimes the Maker chooses the most unlikely vessels. Even a dwarf may be doing His work. We never know whose hand He may favor."
Sadly I did not get the same response for the dwarf orlesian I imported. The lack of an origins import meant that the blanks got filled in with the default background so I have to throw up in my mouth a little every time I hear how great Cousland was. =p

Varric not being an LI. But I didn't want to read any accidental spoilers before my 1st playthrough.
First I owe a huge thanks to Mary for writing one of the most awesome characters I've ever known. I can even begin to describe how much I enjoyed all of his scenes or dia/monologues. There should have been a "Stalker" achievement for all of us who 'visited' Varric after every single mission and never let him out of the party if possible.
I really hope he'll be an LI in DA3. If not adding Aveline, they could get back Sigrun or some other dwarvie for balance in romances. I decided to romance Anders in DA2, but it was a bit of a disappointment to me. Haven't tried Fenris yet, but I barely like him (I do, however, for his conversations with Varric ^^). Anyone else things the males have been terribly overshadowed by a certain dwarf?
As for the shard. I couldn't let him keep it. It wasn't even a decision, the idea of him becoming possessed like him
brother drove me on autopilot towards the "no" option.
Oh, and thanks everyone for the wonderful fanart (or is it friend-art?) you're posting. It always makes my day. The hug comic reminds me of a cap I took (yeah, I screencapped all of his conversation, judge me

Cuddle time!

Sadly, I didn't play as a dwarf in Origins (actually, no further than Ostagar). I thought Varric might mention a dwarven hero, though. So he didn't?Gilsa wrote...
Has anyone found any neat references to your warden if you imported a dwarf? I've only found two so far and am wondering if there was anything else I missed. The first is the obvious "Hero of Ferelden" codex entry. The second one is a conversation with Grand Cleric Elthina after I turned in the "Duty" quest to Sebastian and headed up to the podium to chat with her.

Oh clever. Didn't think of that, but I do figure my Hawke would let Varric know that her own needs are remarkably similar to Bianca's-- just a bit of oil and rubbing on a daily basis and the lady's happy.

Edit: Thought you'd get a kick out of this pointless story. I wore my "Save the Nug" shirt to the grocery store. Two women in line in front of me turned around with a puzzled look. They wanted to know what the heck a nug was. =p (To keep things super simple, I said it was just a video game rabbit.)

The "sorry mother" part doesn't figure in the spanish subs. It's a pity.shumworld wrote...
I'm near the end of Act 1 and cried laughing when Batron locked Hawke and Varric in the temple. Varric screams out "I'M GONNA GET THAT SONNAVA **** (sorry mother) AND KILL HIM!"
Also, that's just the beginning of Varric's awesomeness. Just wait 'til you play his Act 2 mission.
You'll crap bricks.
