@Wishpig -- Varric is just the poster boy for dwarven fandom. If there are people that only like Varric because of his chesty looks, by all means, let them come! Let Varric be to Dragon Age what Isaiah Mustafa was for Old Spice commercials! ;) WE SHALL REAP THE REWARDS.

Old Spice Guy and dwarfdom is somehow one in my head. No clue why.

No way Varric betrays you. He's got your back.

As for the question of shallowness, I think judging a character based on concept art is totally valid, moreso than a photo of a real person. I mean, concept art (and character/costume design) is meant to visually convey a sense of who the character is. It isn't the same as real life.

I've always thought fantasy dwarves were endearing but I've never wanted one as a romance because I never found them attractive. I like that Varric is non-stereotypical in his look, personality, and voice. We've got enough drunken bearded Scottish warrior dwarves in fantasy already, come on. Still, you can call me shallow if you want to, I just think the first-impressions approach is more valid in entertainment media.

Oh and I think Varric's popularity will actually rise after the game releases.

Pfft. No way. I can't imagine Varric being the traitor. I do have reasons behind that, but I'm too lazy to actually write them. So. Instead you can peg me as the hopelessly optimistic and faithful fangirl who knows little about Varric but still says he won't do it.

Ya I don't think it will happen... but it is a possibility... albiet very slight imo.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to me like Varric is going to betray Hawke. Especially considering he wasn't volunteering to give/sell information to Cassandra or anything and from what Laidlaw said, Varric is your friend and wants Cassandra to understand Hawke and such... then again, he is the least likely candidate to betray when you have a runaway slave and an abomination (and possibly Aveline and Carver as Lukas seemed to hint in the first Varric thread) so maybe they'll flip that around? Though sometimes the simplest answer is the right one. Anyway. No, I don't think Varric will betray Hawke.

I just hope someone will not run in crying when Varric is not what he or she expected.

Meh, it's possible but it won't be me. I liked all the Origins companions.

I imagine that for every one of those there will be at least one new poster who demands to know why they can't romance him.

We know more about Varric than any of the other companions, when we see footage of him and hear his dialogue we get what we expect. I doubt Varric will deviate much from our thoughts.

Can't say the same about the other fanthreads, though.

The twist is that Carver tranquils you.

I'm personally hoping none of the characters are what I'm expecting. Although it's fun speculating, the reality will probably be more entertaining.

It is the anticlimax, just when you reach the decade mark and are on top of your power.

Carver is the actual champion, people just got it wrong.

I think it's for the best that Varric is not a love interest.....

Which is why I have no expectations :wizard:

Except for Bethany... man, if she doesn't live up to my ideal of sisterly goodness, I'll cry.

Even more of a twist when you play a Warrior/Rogue Hawke and Carver is supposedly Ogre Pulp.

I still think the twist is that Cassandra is actually Hawke with amnesia.

Please stop with the Sandal.  My roommate has given me enough of "ENCHANTMENT?!" over the past several weeks to last three lifetimes.  It has gotten old.

EDIT:  Oh, right... /sarcasm

In related news, if Varric betrays me, I will steadfastly refuse to believe it happened.
