Varric can get kidnapped.. O.o Does he say anything unique when you come to rescue him?
Bet he does.. poor guy now I'll have to force him into another stressful situation.

Did I hear the Magic Phrase?

Replace Han Solo with Varric in Star Wars, and you can't tell the difference! (other than height-wise, ofc)

Ooh, lovely comic Aimo! Even though I haven't seen SW *cowers*

Another "No ****, there I was" situation. I wonder what are they doing.. Playing diamondback hidden from Aveline in a creepy place so she wouldn't lash out at them for not inviting her?

I love how the only creatures I've never seen decay are monstrous spiders. And I would not want to be near Aveline when she finds out how many games she wasn't invited to.

I had to turn the sound off, because if it ain't Brian Bloom speaking, I'd rather vocalize his voice in my head.

Anyway, I was switching between swooning and laughing my a s s off...it is so hilarious when whatever that was appropriate touching and kissing for Anders automatically becomes WHOA THERE, BOY for Varric (I was rolling in laughter when he reached for her chest instead of her cheek prior to the smoos--er--kiss).

But then came the soft glances, and I d'awwwwed :3

OMG, same reaction here in all things. Muted is completely necessary and it was both hilarious and d'awww all at once. The walk to the bed was all kinds of hot even if the hand holding animation didn't quite mesh. Oh well.

(And I finally saw a giant spider decay a couple of days ago while doing the Bone Pit quest for one of Anders' nasty ingredients. I was so shocked since I've done a couple of playthroughs and that was the first disappearing monster spider. )

Varric is totally my weak spot. In my first play, Beth died in the Deep Roads so during that one quest they kidnapped Varric. I was all "Oh NO they DIDN'T" *rolls up sleeves, puts game face on*. And then I had to rain down righteous vengeance on Grace.

Talking of that potential plot twist it provided one of the earlier examples of how Varric wasn't just witty banter and good looks, his "oh sunshine" made that scene even more devestating. In fact whenever he refers to Bethany's fate afterwards it's the perfect example of how he is actually a caring and decent individual.

Varric wasn't the one kidnapped for me though. It was one of the rare occasions when I had left Isabela out of my party and because I had previously romanced her and maxed her friendship (prior to falling madly in love with Merrill, yay for rivalry paths) they took her instead. It actually fit really well, the Merrill thing had only recently happened and some party banter was still discussing how I had previously been seeing Isabela, meaning it made sense that the kidnappers would target her next.

IGN asks the writers at BioWare what their favourite quotes are.

Luke nominates a Varric quote I actually missed on my playthrough, spoken to Aveline at the Hanged Man.

"And so I said, 'It's a Kingdom, and that makes him King. But it's also a country..."

Have we had a round of 'what's your favourite Varric quote' yet? There were too many for me to remember offhand but I wrote this one down:

"You must have me confused with somebody else. I'm just a buisness man and a storyteller."

I just kinda loved the delivery (naturally).

Next to it I noted down an Isabela quote that made me laugh:

"Does this mean I won't get my ship?"

Said after the quest in the Fade if she betrays you. On it's own there is nothing remarkable about it, but said in that wonderful Isabela way it's hilarious.

I also noted the reference to Mutant Enemy (Jos Whedon's company who worked on Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse). I can't remember who it was (I want to say Anders?) but a companion makes reference to something going 'Grr Argh' at one point. I could be way off the mark but the way it was said and the writers known love of Whedon's stuff made me instantly think of the post credits Mutant Enemy monster.

In order to promote my DA2 screenshot album of the crazy and the mundane (usually crazy), I have a few more "no ****" moments and a bonus:
part one
part two
Well-Oiled

If anyone can provide a save just before the romance scene with Fenris/Merill/Isabella, I could record it as a Varric version as well. ^^ I only romanced Anders so far, and I haven't had much time for my other playthroughs.

I believe it's been in Aveline's office in Act 3.
Hawke walks in on them laughing. It continues:
V: "I find interrogations are better as a two-way affair."
A: "You have no sense in your head. None at all."
V: "You're the real guardian of such things. Keep the bottle."
*Varrics walks out, waving to Hawke* (I love when he does that)
A: "Incorrigible. Utterly."

I really like how you can walk in on two companions chatting.
But as for my favorite quote.. I really can't pick just one (not just now anyway), there are at least 5 I love the most.

Here you go. :)

Isabela: (I think this save is just before all the Act II izzy's dialogues)

Fenris: (just go to the hightown mansion)

Okay, I'm currently playing through Origins again and just got to the Carta base in Orzammar. Needless to say I got -far- too excited during the brief conversation with Leske after you free him. I wish he was recruitable.

<3 Brian Bloom.

Varric was definitely the best part of Dragon Age II. I LOVED where you charge into Bartrand's house as Varric and take out everyone by yourself...and then Varric gets called out on his BS. It was awesome.

Thanks! I now have all the LI's and must say especially Isabela switched for Varric is really hardcore :D
I'll post some screens later but for now here's some chest close-up because there's never enough of those:

@ebidebby
Yeah, that's the best scene of DA2 imo ^_^
I actually used that IK tactic later on and it really worked on those low-rank enemies. Faster than AOE spells, too.

Leske gets a bigger role at least. He isn't just a random dude in prison that says that the DC committed suicide.

Edit: And I prefer that line of events much more than the generic one.

Have you played Golems of Amgarrak DLC? Jerrik (voiced by Brian Bloom) is a main character there. But I didn't catch it. I still find Jerrik's and Varric's voices to be quite different. :)

Aw man, towards the end of the game Varric definitely proves he's not just fun to hang around. He is absolutely wicked in battle. Archer's Lance? A 1 hit kill on all low-rank enemies, regardless of health, that travels through enemies and hits as many as it can? Aww yeaaaah, he saved my bacon against Ms. Crazy Glowsword herself. The slave statues count as low rank enemies, apparently, and are so huge it's easy to line up like three or four at a time, and whooosh! Killkillkillkill, and thank you, Mr. Tethras.

So, what's your favorite Varric ability? Most impressive battle anecdote? This has probably been done before loads of times, but hey, it's Varric, right?

I can't think of an impressive battle anecdote but I'm partial to Archer's Lance too. Hmm I didn't know those statues counted as low-level, gonna have to try that next time.

Also thanks to this thread for the idea of naming Hawke Bianca.

So...when I first watched the Dragon Age 2 trailer and saw Varric, I immediately thought "I am SO going to romance that dwarf". I was very disappointed when I played through the game and realized that he was not a Love Interest. So I decided to write a fanfic to explain why such an awesome character can't be romanced. This seemed like a good place to share the fic. ^_^

I'll get around to that playthrough eventually, but I am getting the impression it may be somewhat tragic? I loved Leske in the Origin, combined with my adoration of Varric seeing him get killed would be very uncool.

No I haven't actually, one of the few bits of DLC I haven't tried. This shall have to be rectified. /thethingsIdoforBloom.
