Sorry Isabela, Fenris, Anders and Merrill. I love you guys, though this dwarf had stolen my heart since he was concept art. If ever they'd make him a LI, be it in DA2 or DA3, I'd totally romance him 100% of the time.

You do know if Varric is your LI, it ends with you separated right? He cant go with Hawke, because he has to stay to tell the story. Though I am quite content with Varric as he is, he is that friend character that the ME series, sorely needs.

Varric is a perpetual liar. He knows exactly where the Champion is. If she's even left Kirkwall. ;)

Varric left the Hawke estate, went to the Hanged Man and opened his room's door and crawled into bed with Hawke.

TOTALLY CANON.
IT'LL BE EXPLORED IN DA3.

The real reason Varric isn't an LI is that no one else would ever get a look in. All Varric all the time ;-)

Every time Bioware writes a "cool best friend" character, everyone seems to want them as an LI. So here's my idea... next game, assign someone to write a cool best friend non LI character... wait for them to finish, and then say "Ok, changing what you've already written as little as possible, make him an LI."

What could possibly go wrong?

Also, why do I love any character in fiction who consistently breaks the fourth wall? Or analyzes what's happening in terms of how good of a story it'll make later?

Well it could be a case of the forbidden fruit routine, if they were an LI, no one would care, but when their not an LI, everyone would want them. So the scheme is in DA3, no LI's and then everyone will want everyone and then they patch in romances and for once everyone is content.

I do like both of the existing male romance options, so it's not like they completely missed the mark (better track record than ME2, where I only found one of the male LIs really appealing.) I'd trade a cute Varric half-romance for Seb's weird little half-romance any day. I understand that for the story to be suitably epic, people think you have to have a big heart shattering "Nothing could be worse than the thought of living without you" moment, but really, I'd like a love interest that was more "We are awesome friends, and also we have sex. Hey, let's be in a long-term relationship based on shared awesomeness!"

I mean I like to fix some tragic wreck of a man as much as the next girl, but the option of a guy who is pretty together but just happens to like me a lot would be wonderfully refreshing.

Long distance relationships seem to grow more intimate (faster at least).

And are extremely painful.

I know that too well :crying: (I am in one right now and I am aching to have him back, thank goodness he's back next week!)

Honestly I doubt DA3 would have Hawke. But see, the Anders fans (who originally shipped him with THE Grey Warden or the Orlesian Warden) don't mind him getting Hawke instead. In reality, we gotta admit, US PLAYERS want to romance him, doesn't matter who the character he's with as long as it's THE player character ;)

Have you guys seen these set of trailers yet? AMAZING Varric voiceovers...

Not sure whether to cheer or cry at the news that BioWare haven't ruled out Varricmance completely. It could turn out to just be a massive tease in the long run, and after how gutting it was with the main game I don't really want to go through the 'will they won't they' all over again. :P

Just give us the romance BioWare! Please? :innocent:

I mean, the way I see it there is no better time to try a Dwarf romance (as in, Human PC with Dwarf NPC). The Hobbit is making fantasy Dwarves sorta sexy for arguably the first time, and in Varric they have a character who is almost universally popular with people who played DA2. There is a good chance a fair percentage of people will experience the Varric romance content even if they would usually go for the broody Elf or the tortured soul Mage just because they like the character otherwise and want new content for future playthroughs and whatnot.

Gotta agree with Apollo there.

And hang in there, Trivia, long distance relationships can be totally rewarding, my hubby and I had to do it for about 3 years before I graduated and moved country. Good luck!

Not just the hobbit. All the ladies dig Tyrion Lannister. I'd hit that, even post [spoiler].

And as much as I love dear Tyrion, Varric is a thousand times better. Talk story composition to me again, mm hmm.

Dropping in for support of a Varric romance. Even though the ensuing awesomeness would threaten the stability of the universe.

As awesome as Varric is, I kind of like him more as a "bromance" (is that still what you call it when you're playing a woman and Varric is your awesome friend but nothing else?) than a romance option. I think I'd have more fun hangout out with Varric and getting into trouble, picking up women, and the like, if we were just good pals than if we were cracking the bedboard. (Isabela kind of works better that way, too, but she's entirely happy being friends with benefits, so you get the best of both worlds)

PS. love the avatar, Jackkel.
