Now, I've done pretty much everything in DA:O and DA:A but up until now refrained from doing Witch Hunt. And as I am now going through the game again, this time as a Rogue, in preparation for Dragon Age 2 I am simply wondering one thing... How much impact does the Dark Ritual have on Witch Hunt? I'd prefer it if spoilers could be kept to a minimum.

I just don't quite see why you would activively chase after Morrigan if you had no real connection to her otherwise.
I generally do actually go with the Dark Ritual and Morrigan romance, but I am tempted to do it a little different this time and ignore the option, go with Leliana etc. (Which I've only done once or twice before in comparison to the hundreds of times I picked Morrigan and the Dark Ritual :P

So does Witch Hunt even make much sense, and does the Warden even have much motivation for it if he has not opted for the Dark Ritual? Is it more of a 'you happen to run into Morrigan' kind of deal otherwise? Of course you could still be chasing a good friend down...

EDIT: Oh, also. As I'd for once not pick the Magi origin and go with City Elf, probably anyway (Still a bit tempted with Human Noble). Is there any mention for City Elf at all? I heard Dalish and Magi may have some references but that's all.

Without spoilers...

For Witch Hunt, I believe you catch wind of rumours that Morrigan has been seen in the area. Whether or not you go to verify these rumours is up to your Warden, but you quickly encounter an NPC who is also looking for Morrigan, which could give you more motivation that just dropping in to say 'hi' to a former companion. :)

If you romanced her and have her ring, the game will recognise this.

If you did the Dark Ritual, the game will recognise this although is has no impact on the DLC itself except for one conversation.

If you use an Orlesian Warden, you get an intro where the Wardens are interested in Morrigan's part in the Blight (whatever that was). Some want her dead, others want her questioned. Templars are also supposedly after her.

AFAIK there is no special mention for any characters other than mages and Dalish.

The impact isn't huge, but it is there. If you did the Dark Ritual the dialogue and possible endings will be effected by it, and personally I think the story makes more sense if you did the ritual and/or if you romanced Morrigan, as you said; why would you otherwise go after her?

I myself haven't found much difference in the DLC game depending on your origin story. Might be that I haven't really paid attention.

As you I am planning 1-2 DA:O playthroughs in preparation for DA2, and one of them will probably be a human noble romancing Morrigan and doing the Dark Ritual, which makes sense in why I would follow her (my preferred playthrough though is becoming king-consort, roleplaying that the PC falls in love with Anora, however the Awakening ending kind of screws that up with the warden suddenly disappearing with no explanation whatsoever).

The Impact is more prelavant that theres a Anchieant Tevinter Dragon god alive in the dragon age universe in the body of a human child and not corrupted. This will open alot of plot options down the road for the story of dragon age.

(FYI the result of any race interbreeding with a human is always human in Dragonage.)

(Urthemiel or the "Dragon of Beauty" is the Old God in this case)

Thanks for the replies. Shame there isn't any reference to any other origins then. Finally I make something other than a Mage and look where it gets me...

Oh well, I suppose I'll likely just pick Morrigan once more then. Always preferred her over Leliana anyway. Unless in this playthrough she somehow managed to persuade me otherwise :P

I am aware of all of this, yes, thanks. But that doesn't necessarily mean it is covered in Witch Hunt now is it? :P
And sadly BioWare has up until now made it unable to pick an Elf (Female) romance option, so my City Elf is not left with much choice here. BioWare is clearly racist, either way the Elves suffer.

Perhaps a Lanaya romance option? My previous Mage was totally getting it on with her.
Or at least Velanna.. Come on BioWare.

Bah, considering Baldur's Gate II, where the ONLY female romance options were elves or half elves (Jaheira, Viconia, Aerie), it was a rather pleasant change of pace for DAO to have no pointy-eared ladies. XD

You'll get one in DA2 though...

Yes but do you realize how racist this once again is from BioWare? You can only be Human-Hawke. Which still means the end of the Elven society in the long run. No I am not exaggarating, what are you talking about?! This is a serious issue that needs to come forth. People need to know the Elven plight and that BioWare is actively undermining them.

Only "Romancable" used very loosely are the Elf in the Noble Origin and Merril in DA2 of course thats its own problem again as your forced to be a human lol.  Shianni in the City Elf Origin seemed to like you enough and of course you know your Elven Wife wasnt such a bad looker.

Of course theres also the option few ever take in a Bioware game. Romance no one...

But if it hasnt been said in Witch Hunt the dark ritual does have a effect on wether or not you accepted her offer changes dialog drasticaly and her feelings on the matter and the fate of the child.  In one of the possible endings to Witch Hunt its heavily implied the Warden and Morrigan go off to raise their child together.

Im fond of Romancing Morrigan anyways myself because I like her slightly more then I do Hardened Leliana. As a female ive come to like the Zevran Romance over the Alistair one though.
