Will DA:O Get a Mac Release?

I'm getting it for PC but my friend has a Mac and was asking me this morning. He could just get it for the 360 but I reckon the console versions will be lacking despite what Bioware say.

Agreed. Install Windows on the Mac (If I can do it, anyone can).MrGOH wrote...
Nope. But since modern Macs can run Windows, he just needs to boot windows, as long as his system specs meet the minimum requirements.

You should really take this opportunity to laugh at your friend for owning a mac.
I did that when my friend had a mac. He now has Windows, thank god.
Mac computers are for the people who want to look pro with their Adobe programs (which also work on Windows btw). Windows is for gaming.

Fixed that for you.

Correct. It costs a lot of money these days to look cool, but it was worth it.

I would suggest doing so through Boot Camp, not Parallels or any other method which runs Windows from within OS X, but it's his/her call.

Why would you buy a Mac to install windows on it? For the price of 1 mac, I can buy a godly gaming pc that could run DA:O like 3 times.
Because OS X is a better platform for web development. I have several friends who are very successful in the web development world and they all use Macs for coding and graphics work.

4 if you build it yourself.

Whenever I ask people why though, they say that's just the way it is. It's something that's been said for a long time, but I've never heard specifics about what makes a mac better for graphic work.

I dunno about graphics work - I haven't asked my friend who does illustration. But my programmer friends all mention that it's easier to do usability testing on Macs and it's much easier to deal with network coding and testing. Despite my closest friends all be web prgrammers and developers, I know next to nothing about how that stuff actually works, so I don't remember the specifics - they were quite technical. Sorry.

That's all fine and dandy, but how many Mac owners actually use it for that? Probably not as many as you'd think. There just doesn't seem to be a point to doing it that way when a PC is cheaper and runs more games, better. If you're going to get a Mac just because you think they're cooler, then you go and turn it into a PC, you're just doing it because you're A: Trying to be cool/different by owning a Mac or B: weren't an educated buyer and let some one else make your purchasing decision for you. Or at least that's how I see it.

As a filmmaker and owner of many Apple products, but also an avid PC gamer, I am more than willing to concede that two or three (4? 5?) great gaming computers can be built for less than the cost of my $6,500 Mac Pro.
Certainly, anyone in the position of having no computer who predominantly wants it for paper writing, web surfing, emailing, and gaming, should buy or build a PC. No doubt. But if you need or want to spend your money on a Mac, for work or pleasure or just because you can, it's perfectly reasonable to consider gaming on it. Almost every Mac computer now available is capable of gaming on par or better than half the users computers on this social network, I wager.
Based on price for performance, the PC is still a better deal, no question, but for those who are contemplating this, there is no reason to give them a hard time. Both systems have their pros and cons - let's try to help if they have questions and stop needlessly flaming a system you may have no interest in.

I actually think a lot of consumers are foolish about their money regardless of whether they purchase Macs or PC's, particularly folks who get the latest CPU's and Graphics cards at twice they cost they would be if folks actually waited until they actually need the new components. But that's people for you, and I'm glad early adopters pay more so that companies can safely lower prices for the rest of us.
I am not a Mac user and I agree that many people use Macs for what I think are not very good reasons and I think Apple sorta plays a lot of its consumers for suckers with how it does business. But it doesn't bother me; if I were bothered by every instance of what I perceive as general human stupidity, well, I'd be some place that didn't have net access, that's for sure.

Standardized hardware takes the pain out of a lot of things. I like my software at home to use the exact same settings & OS as my machine at work, but sometimes I need Windows as well. I've been using both for years, it's great to finally have a machine that will run both OS's smoothly.
Incidentally, when I bought this machine, the equivalent pc from Dell was actually a little more expensive. Building one would have been cheaper, but maintaining a hackintosh was not an option for me.
(and, to stay on topic, When I'm not working I'm looking forward to running DA:O beautifully on this machine)

My mate is a graphic designer so he needs his Mac for his work at home, its a ball ache for him though 'cause he'll have to buy windows to play any decent games on his impresively specced machine!

I don't know, I'd guess not that many people are willing to drop the kind of money a Mac Pro requires unless they really need to. I could be wrong. As MrGOH said, there's no accounting for general stupidity.Joel171 wrote...

Capitalism, people, it's not our place to sit around guess why someone would spend their money in ways you would not. Let's just answer the question and move on!

My wife has owned a Mac for over 2 years. In all that time it has crashed zero times. In all that time I do not remember a single program freezing.
I just got a new PC almost exactly 1 week ago. In that time I have already had 2 programs freeze... No system crashes yet, but I await them breathlessly.
Macs are more expensive, yes. Microsoft has made damn sure that most games are released for windows, and usually not for mac, yes.
Whatever. Anyway macs run better than PCs, irrefutable fact.
