Personally I don't want to get rid of Templars, just the Chantry. Evil powerful mages need someone to stop them, like all evil peoples. Set the mages free, just have the Templars acting as police.

I say the templar's blow and must be removed and the chantry by association and by not controlling the templars need to be removed as well. The chantry could have been so many things but now they are simply opressors being used by their own miltant arm

Actually a good point! Templars have been given more powers by being aligned with the Chantry seeminly speaking for the church while going power hungry. 

When mages are free they need to be controlled so perhaps having templars as an opposing force is not bad.

We love Grizzly bears, all hail the grizzlies! We should import 100 hungry grizzlies into each city. They can look after themselves and surely would never hurt anyone, even if they are hungry! And if a hungry grizzly eats 30-40 people in a part of town? Who cares! The grizzlies deserve to be free!

Or, maybe, individual states will actually start exerting some power as governments apart from the Church. I mean, that's pretty much what happened in real life.
