The Chantry does a lot of good in the world. Simply eliminating them is a horrible idea.

Taking away their control over non-criminal mages is a different story.

Destroy the Chantry and you create a power vacuum for a more oppressive organization.

Or, maybe, individual states will actually start exerting some power as governments apart from the Church. I mean, that's pretty much what happened in real life.

this!

Then we'll take them out too. To invoke Godwins Law a little early here, when Hitler and the ****s were taken out of power Nega-Hitler and the Super ****s didn't rise up to replace them.

Well, they kinda did, in East Germany...

Since DA is not real life I'm going to imagine the writers would not necessarily follow that course.  Throwing even more chaos and violence into the mix would be a little bit more exciting if the Chantry were destroyed outright.

While you have a point the chantry has allowed itself to become corrupt by the templars. Their ideas twisted. The chantry at a low level does great it's leadership needs reform.

A solution would be a new andraste type person forcing a split in the curch....[ which to me is  a likely/hopeful plot of the game]

Laws of Narrative Cause and Effect aren't really an argument.  The defeat of the Darkspawn did not give rise to the Darkerspawn.  Even the Mother threatened little more than a coastline.

i agree with the chantry when it comes to mages needing a school to learn magic and how to protect and keep themself safe from blood magic ect. .... and i agree with the harrowing even ...however i would say mages need more freedom once they pass the harrowing...way i see it at that point they have proven themself for the most part

The Chantry certainly does need to lose it's massive amount of political power.

The Chantry has some some good but the damage they've done cannot be ignored. The Exalted March on the elves, false persecutions against mages, and violating the juristiction of the Dalish. I'm not saying the Chantry should be destroyed but no religion should hold that much power over people's lives.

It just adds to their mystique, no?

I swoon for Leliana. Trufax. When I got to the "Do you enjoy the company of women?" question, and she was all, "And what if I said I did?" I was screaming at my monitor "Take me now, you ginger minx!"

We love Grizzly bears, all hail the grizzlies! We should import 100 hungry grizzlies into each city. They can look after themselves and surely would never hurt anyone, even if they are hungry! And if a hungry grizzly eats 30-40 people in a part of town? Who cares! The grizzlies deserve to be free!

We love dogs, all hail the dogs! We should all keep a dog as a pet! All we have to do is feed them and give them water and surely they would never hurt anyone, even if they are properly cared for! And if dogs happen to kill more people than grizzlies, sharks, or any other predatory animal combined? Who cares! Dogs deserve to be pets!

I know Templar's aren't necessary to combat mages but damn you're going for the extreme!

No, I like that idea. All people who believe in the Maker should be locked in towers and watched for strange behavior.

They should eventually be tested, wherein their faith is greatly insulted, to see if they can handle it without resorting to war and genocide.  If they fail, they're killed on the spot.  They can opt out and have their hands and tongues removed as an alternative.

My Hawke will wipe everyone out.
