I'm so tired of these threads, my god.

Well now that there's an official romance thread they can't keep making more of those, so let's go to the topic people are passionate about on this forum, and I'll paraphrase, "Teh Chantry is evulz! Mages FTW can mages haz freedom?"

The big question is: can my mage romance the Chantry?

Once, I would join you in burning the chantry. But I rethought and came to the conclusion that it isn't needed. We just need to reforge it into a new shape. A Grey Chantry, a third andrasteistic church. It would stand in the middle between the Orlesian Chantry and the Imperial Chantry. A faith mostly for humans and with great respect for the dwarven and elven faiths. The legendary Hawke will be it's prophet, just second behind Andraste in importance! All hail the Divine Hawke!

You can't make a new before you destroy the old.

oh, really? Say that to the protestantic movement in the middle ages.

I'm all for making a new Chantry where the region has authority over themselves.

Exalted march was just a failure. And in that failure there was one person making it possible. Andraste. Where is Andraste now?

I am sorry to say this but if you are going to believe in "exalted marches" and "mages must be killed" fantasies and obsessions then you will just find yourself being a sex slave to Qun screaming for exalted march.

You see, this is my problem with your logic.  We don't know enough about any faction in dragon age to make these  claims without filling in huge gaps with pure speculation, yet you insist that your speculation is superior, and anyone who hasn't come to the same conclusion is a fanatic or a lunatic.

Where has the mighty templar army been during the blights? Show me where it has been and I may say Qun might do something else than facepalm when they see those poor meth lyrium addicts.

It was you who begun to speak about allmighty chantry protecting the lands of Qun invasion. Not me. Yet you blame my logic. This is however not surprising if we remember what kind of other thoughts you have.

Man, even the innumerous romance threads very occassionally came up with new questions to ask or things to say. This **** is so tired I'm pretty sure nobody could successfully brainstorm something new with three days and an infinite supply of coffee.

Someone mentioned earlier, and I am inclined to agree with him, that most all of this Chantry-hate is probably just "the man" syndrome, where of course the Chantry has to be toppled. Why? Because it's in power, man.

More so than that though, I really think people are just taking their real-world vices towards religion and applying it to a made-up one that has been portrayed as a generally positive organization vastly preferential to the chaos that would exist without it.

I played all six Origins, and my characters attitude towards the Chantry ranged from 'extreme dislike' to 'virulent hatred'.

You can say what you want about the Templar, but they do a better job of managing their charges than qunari mage handlers.  Believe it or not, treating mages like farm animals does not make them into particularly powerful combatants.  The templar are mage police, not a counter-qunari force.  The Chantry usually organizes non-templar for fighting them.  If I had to choose between fighting a chantry templar and a qunari mage, I'd pick the qunari mage, lyrium addiction or not.

What chaos? You are just wrong if you say there would be chaos without chantry. I expect you to say that if there would not be chantry and we would make one, then people would stop doing crimes because they would just be so chantry-happy staring and loving the eternal flame.

Yeah all that oppresion of an entire group of people, and lobotomising some of them on little evidence and making them slaves is nothing.

It is King's job to organise the army. Not chantry's. Is there no end to your desire to get power to the chantry?

Of course you expect him to say that, because you're upset that you can't destroy the church in real life, so you're projecting your warped perception of it onto slumlord and the rest of the "sick chantry apologists" on this site so you can feel like you've accomplished something by "defeating" them.

How very amusing resorting to out of game attacks when you lost all other arguments like they would had been a castle made of sand.

Just FYI, I haven't ever even thought about destroying a church in real life. They don't slay innocent people here where I live.

Of course you find it amusing, it's what you wanted all along wasn't it, troll?  No, really, what's the name of your real account?  Obviously you just created this as an alt account from a different IP location so you can be as condescending to the other people as you like without getting banned.

Yeeeeeeah.... I even tried to play a Chantry-loving human, but Alistair put a stop to that:

Warden: Wasn't it nice of the Revered Mother to give us her blessing? The Chantry is great!
Alistair: They turn Templars into drug addicts. Drug addicts with really big swords.
Warden: .........that's not right. Someone should stop them.
Alistair: .........blessed art thou who exists in the sight of the Maker....

Let's stop it with the whole projection argument. Honestly, it's just an excuse to ignore someones argument despite it's merit. Personally, I think the chantry has done more harm than good I see no evidence of benefits that we have from them. Mages are human as well, you know.

"Not my problem, that's the choice you make when you become a Templar."  was my non mage opinion on that.

Military grunts are sometimes forced to do horrible things, conversely I would not hate the entirety of the armed forces because of the actions of a few.
