This regards both ME1 and ME2.
So far i've done about 15 ME1 playthoughs and about 10 ME2 playthroughs all spread across 5 different Shepards.
How many playthroughs have you done?

I answered this in a thread about a week ago and I cannot be bothered to count again.
Around six or seven and a bit for Mass Effect.
Around five or six for Mass Effect 2.
Mass Effect requires more play through's for the achievements being the reason why it's been played more.

Mass Effect 1 = 3
Mass Effect 2 = currently finishing #8.
And since I have work to procrastinate, I shall give you my OCD-fueled explanation.
Following the advice of a few people I talk to online, I picked up ME1 at the same time as ME2 and played it first so that I would have a savegame to import. I then played through ME2 with that character, then NG+ on Hardcore. The idea was to do everything and have that be my "canon" Shepard for ME3. However, since you don't get the Paragon/Renegade bonuses in NG+, there were a few things I couldn't do, so I had to play through the entire game again with the imported ME1 savegame to get my canon Shep right. So 1 ME1, 3 ME2 so far.
Then I did another playthrough with a Femshep, mostly to experiment and try a few things I hadn't done yet. Then another with a male Shep on Insanity, and a 100% paragon playthrough with another Femshep. So we're one for six so far.
Then it irked me that the 100% paragon Shep was based off of the default savegame, which is basically renegade. I was going to import this character into ME3, so I needed to do a full paragon playthrough of ME1, followed by another of ME2 to get this savegame right. Two for seven.
The Insanity Shep was meant to be an all-around douchenozzle, so no problem that he's based off of the default savegame.
And then it just sort of occurred to me that there was a lot of stuff I hadn't done in ME1 yet, so I recreated the "experimentation" Femshep in ME1 to do another full playthrough, and that's the one I'm currently taking through ME2 again so that I have that savegame in order later this year when ME3 comes out. Three for eight.
And yes, I'm quite aware that I have a problem, thank you.

Exactly, especially for ME1. At least three or four "complete" playthrough's are required if you want 100% achievement completion in that game. Ridiculous, to be honest.Machines Are Us wrote...

It really impresses me how many times people actually have played through the ME games. I only completed ME1 2 times and ME2 3

About 15 complete careers in ME1. It's one of my favorite games of all time, up there with System Shock 2 and Deus Ex.
2 complete careers in ME2, maybe another 3 or so have done a handful of recruitment missions before I got bored of it.

4 runs through of ME1....possibly have another before ME3 arrives.
On my 8th run through of ME2 currently....
Because I love the game, being on PC, the achievements really mean jack to me, utterly pointless having them on the PC imo...

ME1= 3 maybe 4 cant remember
ME2= 7 note each playthrough is about 30 hours so 210 hours total thats quite worrying still unlike the first game were by the last time it was a chore ME2 is always brilliant.

ME1= 3,working on the fourth.Granted, you needed to do 3 in the first ME to get the achievements. ME2=1 so far,but will be doing 2 others or perhaps 3 more as I will probably have to do a last one with all the extra DLC content (as I think we are still waiting for 2 more DLC similar to Lair of the shadow broker).

ME1- ~40 across 19 different Shepards. I lost 2008 and 2009 somewhere in there. And I still have at least 9 more playthroughs to go to import my last few Shepards into ME2. I HAVE NO LIFE.
ME2- 21 across 10 characters. Twice through with each of them, and three times with my 'canon' Shepard. Still not good enough for the all-time playthrough number, acording to BW.

I have 2 sheps. So 2 playthroughs.
One Female Paragon
One Male Renegade
Will most likely do one more play through with a Renegade-y female when I finish Mass Effect 3.
I can't fathom making more then 3 characters. And playing through the games again with the same character strikes me as odd, because to me, each shepard has their own story and corrupting that face and voice with a new story is odd.
Each to their own I guess.
