I started to post some of this in HolyJellyFish's thread and have decided instead of going into the idea further there I will post the details here.
[For the other thread click here]

This idea was originally thought up as an option for Bioware to let EA have their multiplayer while not compromising the story (basically an improved Pinnacle Station where the leader boards are actual players competing against each other).

The basis for the idea is as follows:

***

What I'd like to see is an optional combat simulator where players can try to complete training sessions based on missions from history. Something similar to that special mission you could do if you did well on Pinnacle Station.

***

Now I've been thinking of the best way of implementing it in Mass Effect 3.

The answer came to me while reading the novels; Arcturus Station

The Alliance Space station where the N7 training takes place.

Now let's set the scene; Shepard has to go to the station for some reason (let's say to talk to an Alliance Commander who is overseeing the latest batch of N7 recruits),

Now one particular room in the station is where they train their N7 recruits using an advanced combat simulator. It is in here one of the trainers recognises Shepard and offers to let him have a go (the player of course can agree or refuse).

If the player wants to they can choose from a variety of different missions from Alliance history

Examples could be; battles from the First Contact War, or more personal ones like the missions that 'make'  your Shepard who they are; Torfan, Elysium and Akuze (Obviously all three would be playable to each Shepard and the dialogue would change depending on which background you pick).

Now this wouldn't be there to gain experience, but instead could be used to  bring the player more closer to Alliance history and to the backgrounds of their Shepard.
