I have undated my ME to the newest version and it still will not play. I bought the game today from gamestop and the CD key wasn't working with the free DLC. I have this game for my 360 but I wanted to experience this wonderful game through my computer, but currently I have no ability to play.

Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X4 965 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz

Memory: 4096MB RAM

Graphics card ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series 1 gb

There are no error messages. I have a digital copy and when I click on the link it gives me the option to play. Once I click that then it exits out of that screen and the icon for loading comes up for about 2 seconds then nothing. No message comes up, just a whole lot of frustration.

Also have window 7 64 bit. That might be where the rub is coming from.

Did you download and install the patch?

I had an issue with it in the beginning before I jumped into the forums. When I was trying to configure it ,the first time, the game configuration window would stop responding immediately. So I reinstalled and now this is happening.

(And this is only for the raw hardware & driver variations.  Potential software conflicts are far more likely to be game play problems, and developers cannot test for all possible program loads.)

It's all there, in the requirements, and on the DVD.  Dx9 is required because Dx10 / 11 is incomplete.

He means that it should be downloaded, installed, and the system rebooted, then try the game again.  The mere act of collecting the copy of Dx9 isn't sufficient at all.  I would guess you probably know every bit of that, but given the fact that the majority of readers in forums like these are folks who don't write messages, just read some, it needed saying.

No, it uses DirectX 9.0c, which Windows 7 does not come pre-installed with.

Just seen that I haven't updated them in a bit. So I will go for that. I have played many other games with no issue. Seems weird if that fixes it.

I don't know where you went for video drivers.  The correct number is "11.2"

Catalyst Software Suite         93.5 MB       11.2         2/15/2011

This is the correct place to go:

Does anyone know if the 64 bit edition of windows 7 can even play this game?

edit: I don't know why it wouldn't work with windows 7. I got empire earth 2 to work for my system and it is a lot older than ME.

Official Support is at EA.  Bioware isn't in here.  Read the sub heading at the top of this place.

Windows 7 64-bit is not officially supported, but maybe you can get it to work by finding the Mass Effect executable, right clicking it to go to properties and change the compatibility to Windows XP. Make sure you run as administrator.

The issue isn't 64 bit Windows 7. I have a W7x64 laptop and a W7x64 desktop and both run Mass Effect fine, without jumping through compatibility and run as admin hoops.

I'm having the exact same problem even though I have done all of the above. I hit play and it freezes everything. My specs are enough that I can play DA origins and even the DA2 demo with no problem. Windows 7 Vista. Kind of wondering because when I downloaded the patch the first time, it said it might not have installed properly so I clicked on instal with recommened settings. It still froze so I uninstalled everything and tried again. Even the patch. My Mass Effect icon under my uninstal program menu still reads version 1.00. I seem to recall DA changing to 1.04 when I installed it's patch. Could that be part of my problem?
