Unrecognized item - What's this doing on my registered promotions page?

My registered promotions has this odd entry:

UNRECOGNIZED ITEM
An unknown promotional item has been found. Urecognized items will
still be available and recognized by the system and game they are
intended for.

What is this? Should I be worried somehow? It used to be a blank box, but now it has the above text in it.

I preordered the digital download Collector's Edition from EA's store and have two of the items from Dragon Age Journeys. The two DLCs and the other bonus items all seem accounted for.

Same problem for me, but this is nothing important I think. Maybe they will fix this in future.

It's just very odd to have that extra, unwanted item. I'm thinking it's a bug at BioWare's end, but I'd rather not have my account blocked because an automated system has deemed me a "hacker" or somesuch.

Anyone find anything out about this?

Yeah, I've no idea what it is, but I see it on mine, too. Perhaps it happens if you disable/enable DLC in a game? I did that to workaround the lost items with the dwarf noble origin and I don't remember it being there before I did that.

If you only have the one, you can safely ignore it. That's a backend entitlement having to do with the character creator - it will be hidden in a near-future build of the site.

Are all of your other registered promotions (i.e. things you entered a redeem code for) showing up as expected?

Thanks for that info Jesse. I noticed this Unrecognized Item yesterday and was wondering what it was. Seen quite a bit of speculation that it's "The Edge" promo item from EA waiting to be authorized so it's nice to actually know that it has nothing to do with any new promo items!

In my case, everything else shows up fine that I can see. Ah well, good to know it's not some wacky glitch that needs worrying.

I assumed it was 'The Edge.' It's a dagger everyone who got the game and registered before Nov 30th will be getting.

I was thinking the unrecognized item on my list of promotions might have been the blood dragon armor for ME2. Apparently not but good to know it's a "known" issue.

same here ... I didn't had "the edge" ... but I had an Book for +1 Attribute in my starting inventory, which I shouldn't have been there.

Had all items from Online game

D2D Deluxe Collector Edition

Character Creation Item

Everything was there and this Book ? So I thought it was this book !

Yeah, they haven't given out the Edge yet to PC users. I assume they'll do so on Nov 30th or Dec 1st.

I can't really make up my mind about The Edge being for everyone that has bought the game before November 30th, or only for people who buys the game after that e-mail notification was sent out. There are some mixed information given in what's written, mainly leaning towards saying we all get it, but also partly saying only new buyers get it. I guess it depends on how you read it.

BUY DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS NOW AND RECEIVE "THE EDGE"*
Those who purchase Dragon Age™: Origins before November 30th will automatically receive the in-game item, “The Edge”. The Edge is an extremely sharp blade that is the pinnacle of Ferelden crafting. It adds bonuses to damage, attack, and critical strike chance.
________________________

*To receive the item, users must login to social.bioware.com and register the game by entering their unique CD key (PC) or UPC code (Xbox 360®/PLAYSTATION®3) before November 30, 2009. Then use the same login information within the game and the item will appear on the in-game Downloadable Content screen ready to download. This applies to all accounts created before November 30, 2009.

Overall I do get the feeling that they are pointing at anyone who bought the game prior to November 30th, and those that buys it before that date as well, as being eligable. That's also what I started to believe the "UNRECOGNIZED ITEM - An unknown promotional item has been found. Urecognized items will still be available and recognized by the system and game they are intended for." was perhaps a placeholder for, but I guess it's not then. I also noticed that the link Buy Now sends you too, does not mention The Edge as one of the goodies you get from the purchase (on the EA store site).

Btw. I am fairly sure the attributes book mentioned above, is included as part of of the Collector Edition (/ Digital Deluxe) items. I know every character I start with has a attributes boosting book. Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes as it's called. Unless it was a different one, that's probably you forgetting what you are getting, hehe.

PS: Anyone else noticed the: "Looking for more adventures and cool items? Check out our website for add-ons, expansion packs, and items available for purchase!"? Hehe.. both add-ons and expansion packs points to the DLC addon page, but I liked the fact that they wrote expansion in there. Future plans I can only assume.

It's been confirmed in at least 2 other threads that "The Edge" will be available for everyone who has registered the game by Nov. 30th. Here's one of the threads: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/68/index/263715

Scroll down to the comment by Fernando Melo:
"The Edge item will appear for you to download shortly after the 30th. Starting end of day on the 30th we'll be going through all accounts that have registered the game (any platform) and enabling the item for you.

We'll also be sure to post here and update you once the item is available so you know when to expect it waiting next time you log in to the game."

Yeah, beyond that one odd item everything is showing up on the webpage.

In-game the DLCs show up as unauthorized if I don't manually start the Dragon Age service first. I hope that the webpage is seen as the authoritative source when determining ownership.

I feel like the news of this new item calls for a U2 joke. Anyone?

on this site, see your char-pic in the upper left corner? Beyond that move the mouse over "Profile", then look for "Your registered game promotions".

back to topic:

I have the same problem. But for me only "Embri's Many Pockets" is missing which I received through dragonagejourneys.com . I opened a ticket for that on 11/13/2009:

Hi support-team. In social.bioware.com under "my registered game
promotions" i have a "unrecognized item" (see attached screenshot). I
think it should be "Embri's Many Pockets", because i only miss that
one. I should have it through DA:Journeys. Can you fix it? Thank you.

I received an answer yesterday (11/29/2009) with a defaut mail:

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

Please
accept my apologies for any delay in responding to your query. Due to
the release of this popular game we are receiving more contacts than
usual. Though we are trying our level best to get back to all of our
customers as soon as possible a few delay is inevitable.

We have
received a variety of reports about DLC not functioning properly for
some users. Many of these issues seem to be impacting users that do not
have a CD key installed in their registry.

Symptoms of this issue that users have reported experiencing include:

When
speaking to Shale the conversation will be reset to the first time you
speak to her, with only two dialogue options. The player will also be
placed in a "bad" location on the map.
Various DLC items removed from in-game inventory. This includes Blood Dragon Armor, Warden's Commander Armor, etc.

An inability to access Warden's Keep, Honnleath, or the storage chest at Warden's Keep
Until
we can provide a patch with a permanent solution, we recommend checking
to make sure your CD key is installed in your registry and logging into
the server at least once before continuing to play if you experience
any of these issues.

If you are unsure whether you have a CD key installed:

Run the daoriginsconfig.exe application

This should be found in the bin_ship folder in the directory you installed Dragon Age to.

Click Game on the bar on the left side of the application window.
You should see a box near the bottom of the application window called Product Keys.
If you have a CD key installed, it will be listed in that window. If not, please install your CD key.
To reinstall your CD key:

Navigate to the data directory on your installation CD.
Run DragonAge_code.exe
A prompt will now appear allowing you to re-enter your CD key.
Please
note that if you have saved your game while experiencing any of the
symptoms, installing your CD key and logging into the server may not
restore functionality to that save. While we are still looking into an
official fix, for the time being you may need to reload from a previous
save game that has not exhibited any of the symptoms.

If there is anything else we can help you with please let us know.

Thank you,

Ricky

I must say, that I'm quite disappointed about this "standard answer" which isn't even relating the problem! I now wrote:

Thanks for a default answer, that is not related to my question.
Problem is not only the game, its on social.bioware.com! I've added
another screenshot. READ THIS: Hi support-team. In social.bioware.com
under "my registered game promotions" i have an "unrecognized item"
(see attached screenshot). I think it should be "Embri's Many Pockets",
because i only miss that one. I should have it through DA:Journeys.
I've checked if the CD key is displayed in the daoriginsconfig.exe.
It's there.

Maybe now the understand...

Another thread made me curious, so I went to my 'Your registered game promotions' page & I got the 3 DA:J items, the Lucky Stone ring, & only for the PC list, an unidentified entry. I got the Helm of the Deep unlocked for me by a dev as a surprise gift for my efforts at aiding DA:J bug reporting while I was on my 3rd log on it. Afterwards I eventually got the log completed (Which made 3 full complete logs on it.) & if the helm hadn't already been unlocked by then, then it woulda been now at that point. I wonder if that bugged something?
