I can't really make up my mind about The Edge being for everyone that has bought the game before November 30th, or only for people who buys the game after that e-mail notification was sent out. There are some mixed information given in what's written, mainly leaning towards saying we all get it, but also partly saying only new buyers get it. I guess it depends on how you read it.
BUY DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS NOW AND RECEIVE "THE EDGE"*
Those who purchase Dragon Age™: Origins before November 30th will automatically receive the in-game item, “The Edge”. The Edge is an extremely sharp blade that is the pinnacle of Ferelden crafting. It adds bonuses to damage, attack, and critical strike chance.

Overall I do get the feeling that they are pointing at anyone who bought the game prior to November 30th, and those that buys it before that date as well, as being eligable. That's also what I started to believe the "UNRECOGNIZED ITEM - An unknown promotional item has been found. Urecognized items will still be available and recognized by the system and game they are intended for." was perhaps a placeholder for, but I guess it's not then. I also noticed that the link Buy Now sends you too, does not mention The Edge as one of the goodies you get from the purchase (on the EA store site).
Btw. I am fairly sure the attributes book mentioned above, is included as part of of the Collector Edition (/ Digital Deluxe) items. I know every character I start with has a attributes boosting book. Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes as it's called. Unless it was a different one, that's probably you forgetting what you are getting, hehe.
PS: Anyone else noticed the: "Looking for more adventures and cool items? Check out our website for add-ons, expansion packs, and items available for purchase!"? Hehe.. both add-ons and expansion packs points to the DLC addon page, but I liked the fact that they wrote expansion in there. Future plans I can only assume.
