Just hold onto those two skulls, Karen, and you'll be fine. :) But you do have to thoroughly investigate the house, and you may need to use a character with a high search skill.

As for the ashes, look for an area connected to the area where you got that quest.

BTW, I would also be interested in a list of hidden quests, just in case I missed any.

I don't think you need search at that moment, unless it was changed in a newer version.

*SPOILERS* Look on the second floor of the mansion, NE corner. There's a hidden room there. *END SPOILERS*

As for the butler, it regenerates so use your most damaging feats/spells/whatever. How's your party composition?

There’s not an actually a list of hidden quest anywhere in the game I don’t know who started that rumor.

As for the butler it sounds like you’re not high enough lv you should be about 6th lv at least. If you can’t beat the butler then you’re going to have a dilly of a time with some of the later encounters. Have you done all the quest at the woodcutters camp? Theirs about three quests and two mini quests.

If your still having problems PM me and I'll give you spoiler help.

Wait a minute how you get two skulls if you didn’t kill the butler? How you get to the 2nd story of the haunted house without killing the butler?

(10 min later) Ok… I see how you got to the second lv. *Fixed* One of the purposes of the butler is act as a filter; prevent characters that are too low a level from progressing onward. I have to do this to keep the game in balance.Posted Image

Thank you all! Alupinu, I may take you up on your offer if I don't make any headway soon!

As to my group, since it was a forest adventure, I used a 3rd level ranger. I picked up the half-orc fighter (he sure gets killed a lot though lol), the cleric, and the rougue.

We got the butler down to almost dead twice, but he heals before we can finish him off (we killed the ghosts, etc. though). Getting to the second floor wasn't that hard - while we fought the bulter the second time, I had the rougue run upstairs and "pull us through." The butler didn't follow.

I'll go back and look for that hidden room - maybe that's what I'm missing and see if we can finally kill the butler. I did all 3 of the crypts and found nothing but the clue notes!

Thanks again for the help!

Karen : )

Did you try using Power Attack with the half-orc (I think he comes with it) while 2-handing a weapon? That should help against the butler.

Yeah, Alupinu, as soon as Karen mentioned the difficulty of the butler, I realised what his purpose was, and that's great! It's to encourage you to go out and do all those other quests first (which you should do, Karen)! A "gear check", as they say.

I still don’t understand how you got that door unlocked. You need a key and the butler is the only one with the key. Did you pick the lock? The lock should be unpickable and unsmashable. I did find that the other door (back stairs) was smashable and I fixed that but not the main stairs door.

Oh, regarding the butler, I had a strange thing happening when I played. Not sure if you can change that or it's outside the game limits:

I entered the mansion through the backdoor, explored it around and opened the front door from inside. Then the butler cutscene fired. Is it supposed to work like that? It looked like he was speaking to me as if I was entering into the mansion for the first, and not leaving.

It's a small and unimportant detail, but I thought I'd mention it. I forgot to do it back when I was playing.

I did all the quests I could find before going to the house (and another after leaving the house before returning there). I used the back door - I don't remember if the rougue picked it or if I bashed it. As to power attacks - they all have it except the rougue - and yes, they all used it. I thought we had him the first time, but when he healed completely after almost dying for 5 minutes (real time lol) I thought he couldn't be killed. I'll give it another try tonight.

Thanks again,

Karen : )

Just a couple more tips for the butler... Since you said you have the cleric with you, make sure you're using the spells to give divine damage to your weapons, and use a lot of spells that deal divine damage if you can.

The cleric could also "heal" him. He's an undead, no? So healing spellls should damage him.

In my playthrough, the half-orc pretty much killed him on his own. His damage rate was higher than the butler's regeneration.

That’s because the trigger is next to the front door. So yeah it suppose to fire like that for the most part. Maybe I should put the butler in a different spot? I’ll think about it.

You could put more than one trigger down...one for each approach to the area. I came in through the back door, too.

Coming from behind and teleporting to the front wouldn't be right either. I think it's fine as it is if it covers the area between the front door and the stairs. I think it didn't fire until I reached the door so maybe its range is too short? Or maybe it just took a bit to fire or something.

I went through the back door because the front one was locked... was that changed in some patch, did I run into a bug, or did I simply have a brainfart?

Actually I think I just need to redraw the trigger and make it larger so it fires before the player reaches the front door.

I couldn't get in the front door open which is why I entered through the back door and later went up the back steps when I couldn't kill the butler. I really don't remember if the rougue picked the lock or if I bashed it.

Last night, thanks to your help, I finished two of the quests I was having trouble with (including the ashes). I went back to the mansion, buffed up, and immediately went looking for the butler. It took some doing, but we eventually killed him (mostly with fire and the Cleric's spells). I didn't think of healing him lol!

In any case, I had already found that hidden room and walking around in search mode just turned up a few coins, etc. - nothing really that special. It did, however, allow me to find the hidden door in the basement - and boy was that a surprise! That's where I left it last night.

Edited because I forgot to mention that nobody said there was a list of quests in the game. They just said they wished there was a list somewhere! To be honest, I'd like to see one too - and any chance of a walk-through or hint guide? :?

I also wanted to say that I tried to find Fanglewood at the NWN forum, but it doesn't seem to be there and it shoud be - I'm sure a lot of people would be interested. :)

You’re not supposed to be able to get in the front door until you find the brass key.
Glad you beat the butler, did you get the silver key? I was going to say you could not have possible pick/smashed the main stairwell door. Had to be the servant’s stairwell door.

There’s a fair chance that I will make a read me file in the next couple of months that will have all the quest and some strategy tips ect.

You talking about the Atari NWN forum? I’ve tried and tried to log on to the NWN Forum but for some reason it will not recognize my password. Very annoying!!

Yes, I got the silver key!

As to the forum - its IGN, I don't know if Atari has anything to do with it. http://nwvault.ign.c...ow_days_back=10

I'd suggest getting a new password, but I heard people were having problems with that lately. Do you want me to leave a message for you there?

I guess I'll have to play Fanglewood again after you write the read me lol!

You’re talking about the Vault. Yes I uploaded Fanglewood vie FTP about a month ago and it’s been waiting there to be published. I guess their having tech problems or something.

Oh you will definitely have to play it twice. You’ll never get everything the first time.

Please let me know Karen if you have any more problems or questions, I’ll be happy to answer them for you.Posted Image

I thought they did a poor job as interviewers, they kept pushing Neverwinter Online like it was going out of style instead of talking about your mod. :?
