*UPDATE*
Fanglewood has been finally uploaded to the vault! But wait for v1.02 before downloading, should be up very soon. Maximus E-mailed me and wrote the reason the vault was down because of a system issue and some content got stuck. Image IPBEverything is fixed now and it’s back to business as usual at the vault. Great news!

You can find Fanglewood here at the Vault.

If I'd realized I'd have bugged Rolo Kipp. He posted some stuff I had stuck in FTP. I'll vote when I get home.

Hey would this be considered *Troll* voting and if yes is there anything I can do about it? He didn’t even play the game and he is giving me a “1”.
Check this out...

Darant is nuts. I've seen him comment on many modules, and I never know what he's going to come up with next time. In the case of Fanglewood, I'm not even sure of what he's talking about. Sometimes (only sometimes) he makes more normal comments so I wouldn't say he's a troll... at least not all the time. Perhaps he's a goblin or something.

I think the highest and lower votes don't count, so it shouldn't make a difference in the score.

BTW, it looks like my Vault's account has got screwed up... again.

I've seen his reviews before. He has a very, very particular preference in what he likes to play, and slams anything that's not like that.

Judging from his rant, it sounds like he ragequit because he mistakenly walked up to the exploding barrel and tried to open it, instead of shooting it from a distance to help kill the pirates. Perhaps he didn't notice that the cursor indicated that the default action for the barrel was to attack it, not open it, and he misinterpreted it as a "trapped barrel" designed to kill the players.

Personally, I appreciated those barrels as a bonus bit of strategy, letting me use the environment in the fight.

Outlier votes (bottom 10% and top 10%) don't get counted, so a single 1 vote doesn't hurt you much more than a 8 or 9 would.

He voted me down having just started because I'd levelled him up from one to two after 5 minutes play ( just before the adventure really started ) and didn't warn him. Then stormed off like a baby not wanting to play any more, he's just an idiot so don't worry about it. He and people like him just look for an excuse to not like something. I amuse myself imagining what kind of a sad pathetic people they are in real life. At least you got to blow him up with a barrel and make him upset which is a bonus.

Then again I did get a big 5 !

ps. I've also had a nice "1" and been told to read a monster book for daring to have dragons of the wrong colour in the wrong place which was quite amazing.

Darant seems to go out of his way to downvote highly rated modules, so consider it a badge of honor. Either that or as tchos said, he has a very, very narrow range of what he likes, and hates anything outside that. He gave me a bad score and quit because you play evil.

google search shows...

A Fairy Tale: (by Iveforgotmypassword aka Tsongo) (scored 9.58)
Posted by darant at 2011-03-16 00:38:36 Voted 5.00 on 03/14/11
Tsongo, you get 1000xp for agreeing to escort the prisoner without doing anything in game--instantly levelling to 2. That's a gamebreaker for me, so I voted accordingly. I did vote rather than abstain after playing only five minutes because judging by some of the other votes, people are giving this a 10 vote well before playing the whole module--so that's my balance. i don't see you complaining about their votes.

Risen Hero by Shaughn78 (9.67 score)
Posted by darant at 2011-09-28 03:48:47 Voted 5.00 on 09/28/11
This one was kind of hopeless--arcade style. You spent endless hours fighting ridiculously repetitive respawning enemies--having to rest endlessly just to survive, which respawns them more. Then you bypass this to fight an enemy that kills a party of four with ease. Yikes, the endless arcade-style modules have finally drained the life out of me for this NWN2. It's a shame, and no wonder this game has failed. You may think this is harsh criticism, but it's true for me.

Path of Evil (9.4 score)
Posted by darant at 2011-03-14 18:56:22 Voted 6.00 on 03/14/11
Pretty good, an extraordinary amount of work put into this submission--but, once the mission was to murder an entire family I thought: why would I want to be a cold-blooded murderer, even in avatar form. For me that was enough and I quit. D&D is for heroes. A little bad/evil is interesting, but this lost my interest--so here's my vote based on my play experience.

Legacy of White Plume Mountain: by Wyrin (9.52 score)
Posted by darant at 2010-12-13 17:52:47 Voted 6.00
I enjoyed quite a few hours of this grand creation--which I know much great work was put into--but I've quit for now and I doubt I'll play anymore. There's almost no roleplaying, I'm bored of the endless hack & slash the far too numerous overland encounters offer, and they spawn so numerous that it's impossible to evade them. Other than that, the areas aren't very fleshed out. Most of them transition directly into a cave with no outside area to scout--it loses the adventure quality that way. And even Soubar offers nearly no interaction. On a positive note--and I commend you for there are many--being able to create your own party and freely roam the map is cool. The lava pools deep underground in one of the first map areas is probably the coolest visual adventure area I've ever played.

Harp and Chrysanthemum by Maerduin (9.65, and considered one of the top nwn2 modules ever)
Posted by darant at 2011-09-11 14:52:32 Voted 8.00 on 09/11/11
I tried this again after playing briefly and quitting years ago, only to find the same flaws--which forced me out again. While it's very well done I noticed nothing spectacular, except for the premise of battling the Zhents of course! There are two problems I have with the module, which clearly puts me in the minority--nonetheless I'll offer my synopsis. .....

As for me, I missed the explosive barrels and got myself killed. Then I laughed at my stupidity for not noticing them and said "yay, meaningful detail!"

Don't forget this classic for Islander another highly rated mod..

Honestly, that was just stupid. I was already a little bored by the constant cut-scenes OWNING the entire experience until you're forced into a dreamscape where if you don't accept a ridiculous loss you automatically get killed. What?! I don't recommend this for players with their own imagination--it's pathetic. I've played many mods, and this is the first where the ENTIRE experience is about the author's wishes and not the player's. I have to vote as low as possible to counteract the ridiculous over 9.5 vote--must be his friends.

Really nasty stuff I think an application to be able to send a lightning bolt down the computer and zap people is needed in this case as it's outrageous ! However it does put Equintir's mod to the top of Darant's hall of shame so a round of applause for really upsetting him.

I see a pattern in those comments, and I hate when people specifically vote to attempt to bring the average to what they personally think it deserves.  That's attempting to exploit the system, rather than voting the actual number they think it deserves.  It's an attempt to have one's own vote count for more than the single vote it's meant to be, and that admission alone should be grounds to strike the vote from the record.

Voting higher than one's actual opinion in order to counteract bad votes is also an exploit, and I don't endorse that either.

kamal.. I just checked and darant hasn't even played my other mod so does that count as a badge of honour too in that he must have been put off by it and really hated the whole concept ?

Tchos.. That's why I like the Nexus's endorsment system it takes power away from the haters.

Thanks everybody for your support on this matter.

@kamal, thanks for the examples, after reading through them it’s obvious the guy is nothing but a ****head.

@Ark, no he worst then goblin, I’m thinking Ogre.

@password, I’m pretty sure this guy takes medication maybe Prozac.

@LRS, thanks but I was really hoping to save that for a more legit score and not obvious slander.

@Tchos, thanks again friend for setting the record straight over on my pages. Your help is always appreciated.

As for my page I have decided not to even acknowledge his comment. If darant is the type of person I think he is then that will ****** him off more than anything.
I do gracefully except The Badge of Honor for this unforeseen achievement. So maybe we should start a little club and we can all wear patched jackets. Image IPB

HOW DARE YOU!!! Levelling people up like that, and no warning!

I don't know if it was darant or someone else, but didn't you also once have a complaint about some elves' eyebrows?

IIRC, darant's gripe with with H&C was that some of the companions (heavily involved in the story) were forced on the player. Looking at some of his other "reviews", that one almost seems sensible and legitimate.

You should write what you think, what's he going to do? lower his vote Image IPB

I have had comments from Darant in the past and he has a thread, nay a consistency to his dislikes. He gives tens occasionaly ... for Search for the temple of the Golden Spire.

"Spectacular. A must play for any true, classic D&D fan. I honestly can say that this is the best module I've ever played for Neverwinter 2. Professional through and through. The programming and adventure layout are excellent and the graphics are stunning. A simple, free and open adventure unlike the overly complicated, fantasy-world-from-scratch offerings too prevalent in the vault. Apparently conversions are best, or those modelled like the original pen & paper adventures. If there were twenty submissions like this, there'd be no problem sustaining our wonderful D&D world."

Personally he/she is one of the voters I fear but despite this I much prefer the vault to the Nexus in this respect. I would rather hear someones bad opinion and learn from it that a faceless endorsement with no text. We spend many months of our lives building these. the least someone can do is write a paragraph or two and vote.

Sorry to hear about this though, it is very much undeserved.

Arkalezth.. Yes they were the wrong colour, never having seen an elf how was I supposed to know ?

PJ156.. It's actually quite amusing when people lower their votes because you have a go at them it's almost revenge in a weird and backward way.

Basically there are some people on the vault that think they know better than everybody else and that their opinion is the one that matters so if they don't like something they try to damage it because they're really sad people with no happiness in their life. They forget that somebody has spent many many hours creating and pouring their heart into something that they then give away for free and have obviously never heard of not looking a gift horse in the mouth. It hurts to have somebody say that about your work as all you want to do is have people enjoy themselves and in the most part they do but there's always some idiot out there waiting to do damage probably out of jealousy because they've never made anything in their entire life. It's not nice to go through something like that ( I should know my first mod suffered badly and the comments pages are like a war zone ) and it makes you wonder why you bothered at all but don't forget the people that enjoy your work far outweigh the haters and they're the ones that matter.

Alas, poor Darant. He reviewed Edinmoor favorably.

But from everything I have read, Alupinu, Fanglewood does appear to be an outstanding campaign.

Harumph!

Pj, not sure if you're aware because it's not obvious, but a Nexus entry automatically creates a forum thread so people can post comments. It's just that an endorse doesn't require a comment, where a vote does. The forum thread is reachable directly from the Nexus entry, it's one of the tabs under the entry's pics. I'd rather get the comments here because I'm here more, but the thread for my mod is 3-4 pages over there. The forum also sens you a daily post update if there are new posts in it.

Lol, I guess no one wants to talk about my mods ...

I did see there was a discussion page but I do not get much traffic there and a very much lower download rate. perhaps there are things i can do to promote myself but at the meoment I am waiting for the campaign to be finished. I will put that in both locations.

Thanks for the promt though Kamal_

Reading PJ's comment, it sounds like Tchos is right, darant has a very narrow range of what he likes, very traditional style modules with full party creation/control, and anything else gets downvoted.

I say, "Viva la difference of module styles!"

After reading all this, I had to see if he played Baltron's Beacon. Surprise, he gave me an 8.5.
So if any of you want some pointers on proper .mod building, just drop me a line :)
