I don't. With DA I gave up on intentionally persuing LI's and just let them fall into my proverbial lap.

I was just curious: how many Love Interests do you typically pursue in any playthrough?

I personally always try to only pursue one, and stay faithful to that one the entire game and try to turn down everyone else.  But IRL I never liked "playing the field" and usually only seriously dated one person at a time.

Was just curious if others decisions mirror how they would act in real life or if other considerations (like earning achievements) is more a factor.

Just the one. I don't take acheivements into consideration about anything. In fact, there are acheivements that I don't want to get. My PCs would probably flirt more casually before starting an in-game romance if I didn't know from experience that the mildest flirting tends to be taken very seriously by the LIs, leading to uncomfortable situations. So no flirting at all unless my PCs really mean it, and then only with one.

If that romance ends, well, that's it for romance in that game, most likely.

You mean, for a span of over 10 years, if yours begins and ends say....within the first two, then thats it? ;)

Personally I play as I would act in life for the most part.  If after getting to know several and ending up with one, then that's it. My preference is not to share at a given time.  And if I break up with one after a few "years" it just means theres an opening for another in that same playthrough time allowing.

Edit: and no, romantic "achievements" aren't really that important to me.

Normally just the one except in my first play through when I romanced Zevran and Morrigan just for the lulz.

I normally romance Zevran as he's the only gay LI but I did do the Alistair romance with my female warden and managed once to do the Leliana romance with my male dalsih elf warden that was mainly for the achivements though! I actually quite enjoyed the Lelianna and Alistair romances too, I'm not a Morrigan fan though, sorry! :)

I'm going straight for the s/s LI in DA2 whoever that is but intend to flirt the heck out of everyone! I hope it will be Anders, his romance sounds like it's going to be intense, my favourite kind!

Either none, or all of the ones I find interesting enough to bother pursuing, for as long as I find them interesting enough to pursue.

In this, romances in Bioware games are still too abstract for real world morals to get mixed into the decision making process. I'll romance someone for their personal quest and the associated items and XP, I'll romance someone for the sake of completion... heck, even for the sake of an achievement. That's assuming there's any sort of plan or intent behind it at all, rather than sheer curiosity/whim (or, in the case of Zevran, pure accident)

As an optional and less desirable part of the overall experience, romances tend to get either ignored or "gamed".

Juuuuust 1.
One woman kind of fellow. Pretty much never pursue more than one romantic interest in any game where it is possible.

Mild flirting with multiple, pick one when it gets serious - usually well before the game forces a choice.

Whatever works for the character I'm playing. I've played monogamous characters who are all about marriage and baaaaabies with their one twu luv; flirts who try to balance as many relationships at possible at once without the others finding out; a character that will romance each npc in turn and dump them once they've slept together... I imagine I'll do the same in DA2. I like the relationships to proceed organically.

with my female warden I romanced Zevran, Alistair and Leliana and broke up with the 3 of them. So that's 3 per playthrough, but not at the same time, I don't like love triangles. With my male Cousland I also did 3 if you count Anora. I wanted to have a nice relationship with only one of the companions, but it didn't work, I only like Anora (I hope there's a non-party romanceable character in DAII).

And I don't do it for the achivements, in fact I think there should be no romance related achivements, they're just another side quest.

Absolutely only one. These relationships allow the gamer to make a real emotional investment in this game, and I do, with pleasure, so I have no desire to take the relationship lightly. I don't take them lightly in real life so I don't want to in the game either.

2. I've cheated on Leliana with Morrigan, and now am playing a bit of a leader-on/heartbreaker character.

Depends on the kind of character I'm playing. Usually one, but if I'm playing a character that's not interested in settling down...

Hmm 1, but I tend to go over the more...clean ones, (ala Lelianna/ Alister) I did go after Morrigan the first time I played DA:O and was just...."wow" over how easy it was to get in her tent, plus she got on my nerves with the whole "I will be a dick to everyone you try and help out!" At the time wasn't aware the game had romances, just being friendly. Its why in Awakening I hardly use Val. In a couple of other RPG's that have a romance sub plot I go after just one based on personality, not clothing.

I usually try all the LIs at least once on subsequent playthroughs (unless I'm roleplaying a playboy like my Cousland), however, the possibility of my Hawkes having angry animal sex with a rival Isabella might be too awesome for any of my Hawkes to stray.

its more about roleplay. If i am playing a straight dude with a good character my LI choice will be something that resonates with the PC. If I am playing an evil chick hell bent on destroying everything in her path, then I will try using a LI with similar interests.

Or if I am playing a ladies man kind of a character then I would like the PC to sleep with as many women as possible.

I'm sure Isabela won't mind if I have other partners. Not sure if I want friendship or rivalry romances though.

I usually go for one, makes life simple. If I go for more than one everyone gets all ticked off at me like its my fault.
