Most of my characters typically stick to one LI, but I have some playthroughs where my character is a womanizer and is eventually forced to choose. I do usually go for the one night stands though.
Nothing to do with RL, as I'm the committed type.

One, I'm just that kind of guy.
Two, it gives me more reason for multiple playthroughs.

It depends on how serious it was. If it was very serious and ended very badly, then I probably won't feel like pursuing another. It's not like the game takes ten years to complete, after all. Different time frame, but the Zevran romance after an Alistair break up was completely impossible for me.DahliaLynn wrote...

I was just curious: how many Love Interests do you typically pursue in any playthrough?
I personally always try to only pursue one, and stay faithful to that one the entire game and try to turn down everyone else. But IRL I never liked "playing the field" and usually only seriously dated one person at a time.
Was just curious if others decisions mirror how they would act in real life or if other considerations (like earning achievements) is more a factor.
Just the one. I don't take acheivements into consideration about anything. In fact, there are acheivements that I don't want to get. My PCs would probably flirt more casually before starting an in-game romance if I didn't know from experience that the mildest flirting tends to be taken very seriously by the LIs, leading to uncomfortable situations. So no flirting at all unless my PCs really mean it, and then only with one.
If that romance ends, well, that's it for romance in that game, most likely.
You mean, for a span of over 10 years, if yours begins and ends say....within the first two, then thats it?
Personally I play as I would act in life for the most part. If after getting to know several and ending up with one, then that's it. My preference is not to share at a given time. And if I break up with one after a few "years" it just means theres an opening for another in that same playthrough time allowing.
Edit: and no, romantic "achievements" aren't really that important to me.

What with DA2 spanning ten years though, I can see Hawke having more than one relationship (though preferably not on my first playthrough).

I never felt the need to have a warden screw everyone at once just to get the achievements asap, as I knew I'd be playing the game enough times for my wardens to stay faithful.
In DA2, I plan to stick with one LI per playthrough, unless my Hawke comes to hate his chosen LI.
Hopefully in DA2, flirting doesn't automatically lead to sex or simply calling the opposite sex "beautiful" doesn't make my LI accuse Hawke of cheating.

Whatever is in character, shrug. I RP.
Yep, pretty much this.
I generally stick to one LI, though. Not that I haven't been tempted from time to time, but- mmmmmmyeah.

99% of my playthroughs were with a single LI. The two exceptions were when my warden ended up liking Leliana more than Morrigan and decided to switch, and the other was when one of my wardens ended up having sex with Zevran, not realizing that the dialogue response chosen would lead to that outcome.

That happened to me with Leliana
I thought she and my Warden were friends, so I said she was beautiful (as I do sometimes with my own friends). Next thing I know, she's demanding my Warden break up with Zevran and stop cheating on her. Crazy. I definitely won't be having Hawke compliment anyone she doesn't intend to romance, just to be safe.

Yeah, I definitely hated the fact that I couldn't casually comment on their appearance without someone then thinking I'm attracted to them. Just because I find someone attractive does not mean I'm attracted to them.

After finishing Morrigan's personal quest, my warden called her beautiful. The next time he spoke to Leliana, she was acting like he just had sex with her.
With Zevran, my warden was just playfully flirting with him, as Zevran does with everyone else. I think my male warden called him handsome or something and all of a sudden my warden is having sex with Zevran, when I never intended for him to be bisexual or even break off his relationship with Leliana. At least he got that achievement out of the way...

I'm going to challenge myself to not participate in a romance subplot for my first playthrough.
I will surely fail.
Good luck with that. I made a similar vow before the release of Origins and you can guess what happened.
