Ran full speed into this brick wall of a problem. I'm surprised you've made it to the Landsmeet. I can't get past the first boss battle in the origin level (during the fade as a mage - talking to mouse after killing the demon brings the game to a complete halt). As for fixing it, no luck so far. I e-mailed support on Saturday, and it's been the longest "24 hours" of my life. At this point, I'm ready to say to hell with the whole thing and instead of fixing it, tell me how to get my money back.Traced-Velocity wrote...
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.
After fights, if I leave a party member downed (by not being close enough to him/her), or if a conversation is initiated right after the battle, Dragon Age suddenly becomes a huge CPU hog, to the point where it'll bring my CPU Usage to 100% if I don't resurrect the downed party member(s)/ end the conversation. This results in the game running to a near halt. If I am able resurrect the party member(s)/end the conversation quick enough, then the game runs fine, even if the symptoms had started occurring (framerate/performance dropping notably)
This is especially frustrating during the Landsmeet after that specific fight(avoiding spoilers just in case), wherein the conversation can last much longer than I can hit esc and end the dialogue. Changing my graphical settings does nothing, as setting everything to the lowest values still results in 100% CPU Usage.
Has anyone run into the problem and managed to fix it?
In-case it's relevant, my specs are as follows
Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 GHZ
2 GB Ram on Windows 7 x64
8800GT w/ the latest drivers installed.
Purchased off of Steam.

Fix for Crashing to Desktop on Multi-core systems (also slows the memory leakage)
This applies especially to AMD processors but also affects some Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 quads!
For dual core set to CPU 1 only, for quad core set to CPU 2 and 3, for i7s set to 4, 5, 6, and 7.
Set processor affinity
Open windows Task Manager. Right click on the Taskbar of your windows vista desktop and select Task Manager or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Windows Task Manager
Click on the Processes tab
Click on the Show processes from all users button, at the bottom
Click the Continue button for UAC prompt
Right click the process (application) whose processor affinity you want to change
Click Set Affinity
Check the CPU(s) that you want the process (application) to run on and click OK
<hr>
I wouldnt call that a fix, it's a workaround that helps for some and others it dont. I expect a real fix for this, they should maybe have tested the game on multi-core cpu's and for several hours of playtime, I'm sure they would have noticed how the loading times got longer and longer the more time you spent playing. It ruined the story for me as I got more annoyed than amused by it.

Yes, I agree.
Sadly, I have nothing else to contribute, except that I hope a fix is released. When I run the game it's always a question of when, not if, it's going to crash.

I have an Intel quad core Extreme Q9. I've turned the sound off, and things were okay, but now even with the sound off the game still stutters and lags. MY system is top, and I do mean TOP, of the line. I am so pissed right now. Seriously, how did this game garner such praise when so many people are having so many issues with it?
I do not have a Phenom processor so I don't really know what to do? I mean, am I just s*** out of luck or what? No matter what I do, disable sound or disable all graphics (turn them all down to low) the game still stutters.

Discostar, you're not the only one; I'm in the same boat. There's most likely a few bugs still in this game that they have not fixed yet, I'm certain of it. Hopefully another patch is along the way....

I am not having CTDs but a system lock-up/freeze. I am starting to worry about hurting the pc with the hard resets. I have a quad core processor. Setting affinity to 1 fixes the crashes, but leaves me with unplayable graphics issues. Setting affinity to 2 and 3 as recommended in the above post, gives me good graphics and a slightly longer play time before the lock-up...maybe 10 minutes. Very frustrating. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Guys, I am experiencing the same problem with my system. I have tried all things listed in these threads and I cannot get past the first movie to start the game. I click New game, then the movie starts playing, then I hit escape (or let it play through) and then it doesnt do anything. A sword cursor becomes active and the music changes, but whatever was on the screen when I stopped the movie stays on the screen. Jumping out of the game with task manager I see my CPU is at 100% (or 50% if I changed affinity to CPU0) and I have to end task it. I have upgraded to the 1.01b patch, upgraded the C++ crap and tried disabling sound. Here is my system info:
Win XP professional SP2
AMD dual core Opteron 2.5 GHZ
2.0 GB RAM
Sapphire X1900XTX w/ catalyst 9.11 installed
DirectX 9.0c
Does anyone please have any other suggestions? I even am experiencing black screen freezes with the new COD modern warfare game. My older games all run good though its just all these new ones are not playing! Thanks in advance.

As many posts there are about this memory leak problem, Bioware has to know and its just a matter of time before we see a patch. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
@Vazura: I would contact EA Games Dragon Age customer support if you are having a problem accessing your DLC.

Any ideas on how to fix the Lothering Chantry Crash? On my second playthrough the game closes whenever I try to enter it. Odd since I had no issues my first playthrough.

Nevermind. I fixed the problem by overwriting my 1.01B patch.

I bought the PC game off of Steam, finally I was able to get the game to install, could never get the game to off the DVD or EAs store (thank you Steam for not using EA's crappy installer). My problem I have now that I have the game running is the frequent crashing.....the famous (blank) is not responding message line keeps popping up. I'm using the latest patched version of the game, Windows7 (32bit) and the latest video drivers from NVIDIA. I also have a Quad Core PC could this be the trouble?

Jiron - I assume you're still keeping an eye on this thread?
It might help people to put up something in the first post(s) about the data installation errors happening on install, and ways to get around them. This seems to be a fairly common complaint, and one which (as yet) EA support don't seem to be able to help people on.
The post where we finally listed the unofficial fixes one after the other is: http://social.biowar.../87490/8#312859
Because there are multiple possible fixes this isn't a 100% guaranteed workaround, but its the best we have until a proper fix is released.

I had a look through but did not see my questioned asked. So if I missed it some where please be kind and direct me to the answer. I downloaded and payed for the Grey wardens Keep add on and played through and finished it days ago. Today after a couple hours play with out a problem, I took a small break. When I returned and started the game once more logged in and reloaded last save I noticed the sword I received from the Grey wardens keep was missing. So I checked to see if the content was DLC was check off and authorized and it was. So I am perplexed as to why when I reloaded again a message appears telling me of a new quest "Warden's Keep", I check journal and it saws the quest is complete yet the items from the quest are still missing. Any one had this problem and is there a fix or solution for it?

Most likely caused due to a registry issue not registering your DLCs. Check out the many posts on this.

I just chatted with someone on LIVE support about my crashing issues with the game. He told me to delete my save files for the game, but back them up first and copy them elsewhere if I didn't want to lose progress in the game.
I also asked him if the game has issues running on certain CPUs like Quad Cores and he replied NO.
I wonder if this guy knows what he's talking about. Deleting the games save files is worth a try.

Its tiresome that fighting a long hard battle, the cpu usage goes to 100% just because I forgot to set the processor affinity. Really hope the next patch is here soon and that this game breaking bug is fixed.

Like Ive said before, during the first two hours of the game, it is loading so fast I can't even go to the bathroom anymore but as you go along and after Lothering everything becomes slow specially the loading of areas.
I think it may have to do with how the game is saved and its progression, perhaps there are junk information on the saved files that loads unnecessarily and this is causing the slow loading. Perhaps on the saved file there is an entry there about textures and scripts that are kept instead of being freed. But keeping them in memory is not the problem I think but how it is managed. It may even load excessively slow if those information are loaded yet again. But what is odd, after you quit and relaunch areas are then very fast to load. Therefore there are cached information that is causing the 100% CPU and RAM usage.
Damn we need the patch already please.

Problem for ya'all.. I switched to Windows 7 (after starting my game and hence lost my charater) from Vista sp2, and now I have a bad screen flicker with Windows 7. So bad, I think that it would be to annoying to play. I set it to Campatability of Vista sp2 and 1 and still have the same prob. Even differnt screen reolutions don't matter. anyone have the same prob or an answer?
Thanks!
Thanks!
