Hello all,

I'm sure there are several people sitting around who would like to build a module and/or learn the toolset but are unsure how. I don't consider myself an expert (having never released a single-player module), but I have built for a PW and run my own little private DM'd campaign. I would like to enter the "yay I released a single-player mod" stage of my NWN2 career.

I plan on starting by doing a conversion of a (relatively) short, four part 2nd ed. AD&D campaign that will remain unnamed for the time being because I am a tease. We'll make a few customizations to accomodate the NWN2 medium and I plan on releasing a hardcore version as well as a "standard" version to appeal to gamers of all stripes. I don't plan on anything overly ambitious so modders of any skill level are welcome to join.

Please drop me a PM if you are interested and would like to know more.
-MH

I am using this experience to develop an efficient workflow for my own grand scheme--a multipart campaign of my own design, though such ambitions are not required of those who would like to simply build a mod or jack around with a particular part of the toolset (scripting, conversations, NPCs, etc.).

I wrote the Silverwand Sample Campaign in the vault to help people who were getting started writing their own campaigns. It is a few years old and pre-SoZ, but is still worth looking at.

I started writing my epic Gems of Power (unfinished), decided to develop something simpler to start and wrote the Silverwand Sample Campaign. Got back to work on Gems of Power and decided to try to develop a conversion of King's Festival. I figured since you have the maps and the story, how long could it take? Well, it took a while longer than I thought because SoZ came out so I had to figure out how to implement the death system, party editor, and crafting into King's Festival. then I started adding Queen's Harvest to it. Then I got distracted by writing the OC Makeover, which led to writing the MotB Makeover, and now two years after starting what I thought would be a 3 month effort I still haven't finished Queen's Harvest, let alone my epic Gems of Power.

Things never go as quickly as you might think. At least that has been my experience.

Regards

More truthfull words were never spoken... err... written, at least concerning building a module.

Hey Kaldor,
I appreciate the response. I used your sample campaign waaay back in the day to familiarize myself with that aspect of the toolset. I've run my own campaign for a few years now and have been building MP-focused modules since 2004. I understand the build time. I'm doing conversions for the precise reason of developing SP scripts and developing a workflow.
I suppose I just wanted to open that opportunity up to someone else instead of waiting several years like I did.

When building a mod never measure it in traditional time like days, weeks and months but in percentage, as in percent of your life. MinD I calculate took about 2.3% of my life or about 2.75 years.

That is possibly one of the most depressing posts I have seen in a while Posted Image.

I'm not going to attempt a similar calculation.

I see it as a rather positive post. By Alpinu's calculation, he should live to be 119 years, 6 months, and 23 days old. That's pretty damn sweet! He'll be pumping out mods long after I'm pushing up daisies!

Don't complain, it's gotta be better than bumping a thread for the sake of bumping, right? Which I would have to yell at you for, which sucks all the way around.

In the meantime, what would be the nature of this project? I mean, if folks are supposed to PM you for more details, then how can you complain that your thread is at the top of the list of non-Sticked threads? And, tell me, what exactly is being hijacked? All the salient material is in the first post, yeah?

Come on, Mad.Hatter, enjoy the tea party.

Just felt Awful about my indiscretion and so thought I'd post something useful here for this thread:
The Flip Project
This is what it is, in a nutshell:

The final version of Flip is now available for download. We hope you like it!

Flip is a visual language that makes it easy for people without programming skills to script events when creating their own computer games using the Neverwinter Nights 2 Electron toolset.

Although the Electron toolset features a full programming language called NWScript which is used to script events, many users do not feel confident with the idea of learning to program. Flip features a much simpler visual interface in which users create scripts by connecting ‘blocks’ together.

Huh? Huh? Yeah? This thing might even let *me* figure out how to script!

I've laid out some ideas for a short "builder learning module", with the idea that they require very few areas and are not very complicated, but would be fun to play.

I could really use something like that with an overland map showing how exactly to set up and use the random overland encounter system.
