kotaku.com/5390868/bioware-reveals-dragon-ages-massively-single+player-details

I gather, based on this article that Bioware has gone for a strangely nebulous middle ground on the multiplayer front. While we cannot play together, we shall view our accomplishments and laud them together in some sort of tavern-tale fashion, without the buckshot nature of a million threads bogging down the site and needing moderation.

At least, that is the gist we are supposed to feel. In reality, it comes across like the developers are saying "Hey, have Facebook instead of multiplayer!" Only time will tell how popular the method is.

Yes, this site is why they decided to not have MP.

This was always a sp game. it would be really difficult to put in multiplayer correctly on a game that focuses so much on story. The conversations would be a nigtmare alone, something would have to give and neither one would be very good.

This site was an added bonus. People should feel grateful, its not like they axed some sort of multiplayer mode in favor of this or anything.

Hence the link I so kindly put in the first post, which was actually the entire point of the thread. It explains exactly what the site is for.

Personally, I'm very happy that my team of webmonkeys were asked to make a website instead of adding multiplayer to the game - our skills are somewhat specialised.

This site is far more appealing than yet another tacked on multiplayer game.

I think it will certainly turn out to be useful for the modding community! Instead of having to turn to a place like NWNVault, we instead have our own sub forums for each project.

Not meaning to bash you guys or anything, just wanted to link the article here for reference ;)

monkeyes aside I dont understand why a simple multiplayer model such as the one seen in baldurs gate 1 and 2 wasnt included... hopefully it will come in an expansion!

Oh and I think this site is a great idea! A great way to make sure the modder action stays connected to everyone else as well

Kindly? Typical elf. :P

But on a more serious note, only time will tell. On the face of it, it doesn't look like such a bad idea. However, knowing people, it might spiral out of control rather quickly.

On the whole, a site that lets people share everything about their game knits them together. A grand scheme, I'd say.

It would not be hard to put in multiplayer for player made mods like NWN did.

It was not always a single player game. Early on, multiplayier was an advertised feature. I'm not sure exactly when that stopped, but it was for sure not "always", a single player game.

Sort of like uploading your Madden or NCAA 10 highlights for other people to watch I guess. Or Sims 3 allowing you to create movies and upload them.

I believe you can trace the announcement of cross-platform a short time after we stopped hearing about multiplayer.

But lets be honest, the Dragons Age we have today is an entirely different beast from what we first saw back in the summer of 2004. If you compared the two today I doubt you would be able to draw very many links between them.

Well, not quite. As I understood this post:

http://www.dragonage...ngle/1085278020

The MP game was meant to be a separate entity. DA:O on the other hand, was always only to be a SP RPG.

It was to have two sections, a campaign that was purely singleplayer, and an entirely different campaign for multiplayer.

They dropped it somewhere around 2007, just before the "Origins" subtitle came about.

For those of you who don't remember, the original design for Dragon Age had a multiplayer and singleplayer game. It also allowed you to be a wandering barbarian and conquer entire nations with your necromancy. There was no teleportaion or summoning. It was PC only. There were four PC races. It's was only 'Dragon Age' with no origins, the logo was completely different, and I also think we've gone through two project leads.

However, changes during development are common place. The vast majority of games do not end up exactly as they're invisioned in the years before their release.
