I get it. People who pre-ordered it in time don't want to be denied their reward. They are getting these extras for free. I completely understand and support that. What I don't understand is why so many people object to the idea of the company allowing even more customers to be happy by offering the extras for sale as DLC. You still have your "advantage" - you got the stuff for free. Why is it so important that others not get access to the stuff at all? The "FREE" could be the limited time offer rather than the content being exclusive. As for them wanting to reward people for buying new as opposed to used I totally support that. There are some of us who did pre-order, just not within the specified time limit - so why not let all pre-orders BUY the content that the SE pre-orderers got free? One other thing - I have heard that some people DID pre-order within the time frame and their pre-order was cancelled thanks to the vendor - yet so many people on here are so quick to blame the customer. A customer is something to be valued by a company. It seems to make sense that they allow more customers to be happy. Is that really far fetched? As for some people not knowing - there are probably a LOT of people in this boat because EA just did a huge promotion on Dragon Age DLC (half off) and a lot of people were probably prompted to take an interest in the game as a result of that. But they would be too late to take advantage of this, no matter how much they loved the game or how much of a loyal customer they will be in the future now that they have experienced it.

1 question I pose to this is, Who do you think allowed for the Ultimate Edition/ $15 game sale to even happen?

It's up to the customer to take the intiative and check dead lines for a certain pre order, plus one could always check bioware's announcements and even sign up for the news letter, I don't think it takes that much time to go on the website and check.

I think the WORST marketing idea is trying to sell doors, door to door.

Bold #1 - People are opposed to the SE items being released as DLC?  Well, we know Sebastian is being released as such.  Some items were, I believe, identified as "exclusive to the SE".  In that regard, no, they shouldn't be offered later, but if Bioware were to do that, why would I complain?  I got it already - for free.

Bold #2 - There's a difference between people who did not pre-order for whatever reason, and those who have had their orders cancelled or screwed up by the vendor.  I have no real opposition to people who choose not to preorder.  I've never done it before, not really sure why I did it here, althjough it was likely because of the free stuff, in the end, and the fact that I was going to buy the game anyway.

And I'm very sympathetic to anyone who had their pre-order cancelled.  That sucks, and while it's not Bioware's fault, I feel they should do something to make that right, or as right as it can be made.  Oddly, though, those people seem not to come here with anger, but to share their story as a warning for others regarding the crappy practices of some retailers.

However, I am getting a bit tired of all the people who did not pre-order, whether it was because they weren't sure if they wanted the game, or they didn't have the money, or they didn't know about it, or they were lazy, or whatever reason they want to give.  These are the people who seem to come here with anger, for some reason.

To them, I say this:  There was a sale.  You missed to.  Too bad.

can someone tell what's included in the signature edition? is it content that got cut out of the game that you have to re-buy if you get the Regular DA2?

Companion-DLC (sebastian), Soundtrack and 5 items. And you would have to buy this if you want it in your regular game. Sebastian was cut at some point during the development, don't know about the items. But you wouldn't have to re-buy them.

According to Bioware, it is not "cut" content.

One piece of it - the Sebastian character and quest - is available as DLC, as of now.

Dragon Age II
The Black Emporium <- Free for all versions of DA II
The Exiled Prince <- Can be bought as DLC
The soundtrack <- Can be bought through Amazon
Five items <- Exclusive to SE.

If it's no extra to get the sig edition and get free in-game stuff, why complain about it? I love the concept of getting weapons and armor to work toward using and not have to strain my brain trying to find them.

The signature edition in theory and on paper looks good. But reality has a way of mucking everything up.

Many retailers did not understand the SE deal. Store chain A, B and C generally have enough “stock” to fill all orders while store D-G only have 10 copies coming in despite having dozens of pre-orders. Even then I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear some last minute grief of people who ordered and got canceled last minute.

Add to that many retailers chose to or could not alert customers ahead of time and canceled the orders. This makes for bad feelings no matter whose fault it is since the SE pre-order window passed.

Add to that some retailers not participating in pre-order bonuses even though in the beginning all pre-orders before the cut off were supposed to be upgraded free to SE and include all bonuses leaves dissatisfaction and will likely stop many people pre-ordering ever again.

I think it was much better done in DAO, all new copies got x included free. Some stores did get little pre-order things that were retailer specific but nothing on the SE level. Less confusion for consumers and retailers. (Imho)

Another random thought:

The games industry is the only industry I can think of which incentivizes the consumer to pay money/pre-order an item before they have any clue what it's like. Pre-order DLC (and its concept) is exclusive (no pun intended) to this industry.

No other line of products asks you to take a chance on something before you have an unbiased review of it in your hands.

(yes, slightly off topic, but the current argument is like the "Why wasn't the SE available on Steam" thread)

okay, i'm not feeling like reading through 12 pages of posts, so please excuse me if this has been fully answered, i am new to this site.

i went to my local gamestop today, and pre-ordered a copy of DA2. the clerk said they were all out of signature editions(grrrrrrr), so the only way i could get that is if i call in and keep checking to see if someone canceled their order. my question is, will all the extras be available for dlc?? or am i completely S.O.L.?

You can get Sebastian for a price.  Then the Black Emporium coems with any new copy.  You should get Fadeshare and Lion of Orlais for regular preorder.  Everything else, no.  But that's not much, and even that should come out a few months down the line.

Ok Mr Woo. firstly, if I go to buy something, and the 'coupon' has run out, my bad. If I go to a store and it's closed for business, I go back the next day/week or go elsewhere for the same item. Hardly a good analogy.

Secondly, you don't have to do anything. I never said as such. But let's take my own personal 'financial' situation shall we? I can 'save/use' approximately £20 a month after I have paid for all my other monthly expenses. So excuse me for wanting to make damn sure that approximately a sixth of my 'leisure' money is not wasted.

I would have worded your entire participation in this thread thus:

"I'm skint and upset with Bioware because of various nuanced RPG reasons. Oh, did I mention I'm skint."

Season Tickets for sports teams comes to mind, in fact alot of the entertainment industry does, preorders are common place. second, you dont pay any money to pre-order this game (possibly 5 bucks at gamestop), even then like a person earlier said you have the extra option to wait, not open it, get your reviews, and then decide. If you decide you dont like it after reviews and playing the demo, then get your money back full stop within 30 days generally

Preorders are just timed specials. Everything from handjobs to cars is sold that way.

I am not sure if it is the worst marketing idea ever, I am not an expert on marketing, but having bought several Bioware games before, having learned about Signature edition an hour ago, I am not too thrilled.

That a group of people is not happy (read feel cheated) when another group of people get something extra is in my opinion natural and quite understandable. Will my feelings towards marketing schemes hinder me from buying DA2? No way, but makes me wonder how much do the guys and gals in marketing department get paid for coming up with such ideas.

BTW loyal customers? I am not sure I understand what it means. I buy Bioware games, I spread good karma about Bioware games, sometimes even post on the forums to contribute a little to the community, but that is not enough for being loyal? Fair enough, now I know loyal means fanboy/fangirl.

PS Where I live I should get 1600 points with pre-order from a local store, and I hope to use them on the extras in question. If it will be so, forget I wrote anything.

Ah, I'm not a huge sports fans, so that escaped me. What other parts of the entertainment industry does exclusives? I'm at a loss here.

Edit: Season tickets. Is there something akin to DLC there? I can see that they ask for money up front on the assumption of the team being entertaining, yes, but... Do sports teams do special shows for season ticket holders only? Do season ticket holders get to see the team train? That is what I would think of as "sports-team DLC".

Finally. Reviews.

The PC Gamer review hits the stands tomorrow. 3 weeks before DA2's release. I don't care for PC gamer (though I do have it bookmarked). I subscribe to Edge; the next issue of that won't come to my door til, I believe, DA2 gets released. This is a subjective matter, I know, but seriously... I don't think that enough purely unbiased reviews will actually hit the stores/internet for DA2's release. And the demo? Mmmm... Obviously we differ here, but I don't judge games by demos. Been playing games too long to know that demos don't sum up the full game well enough (certainly not in an RPG).

Still, these things aren't aimed specifically at BioWare. The industry is a lot different now than 25 years ago when I got into it. *wistful sigh* :)

While it's been said many times that those who pre-ordered wicked early are "Loyal Customers," i don't think it's been said, or even implied, that they (and by they, i mean we) are the only loyal customers.
