I wonder if that quest changes depending on how you dealt with the nobles in Awakening?

I guess the leading explanation would be that not all the conspirators were taken out at Old Stark's Farm or the Vigil's Keep Ambush.

i imagine a few of the conspiracy nobles packed and left before you got to them.

"As his name becomes known amongst the locals, Hawke stumbles into a chance meeting with Varric", so that could mean a lot of things.

Oh... quick question, by "Hawke remembers" do they mean the quest doesn't trigger until then or that they chose to go at that time?

I'm nervous about the Hawke being a different person thing. It better not involve possession. Because my Hawke isnt sharing his body with anyone.

It might be that you couldn't take time to this, as you have been an indentured servant for a year. You might be remembering that you are free now.

so it could be, do enough sidequests and eventually varric'll take notice.

Ah interesting, if my Hawke was forced by his uncle in this servitude he'll have a lot to pay for when I become champion , seems like quests work a little different this time around, just like this new "rumors" section in the journal.

Since in the dev diary Varric says "Thus began the Champion's first year in Kirkwall, settling his debts with the mercenaries" I'm thinking this might actually mean Hawke simply murders his "boss" shortly after ending up a slave. You know, the RPG way.
I mean, it seems like a stupid way to use up a year of the game. A servant? My Hawke will have none of this capitalist, liberticide crap. I got rights, man.
Unless you can rise to power while also being a servant, which I kinda doubt.

Settling a debt can mean a lot of things. Having you stuck with mercenary work for a year is a good excuse to bypass DAO's events without making too many references.

if i'm remembering correctly apparently you have to choose between siding with the mercenaries or smugglers before entering kirkwall.
it could be an interesting branching path.

Doesn't seem like much of a choice to me. Of course we don't know anything about the two groups, but it seems like choosing between falling from a ten story building or getting hit by a freight train.

I think by Hawke being a different person he just meant that you could have roleplayed it very differently than the way he did. He said "a totally different person than mine" after all.

Bio said the demo finishes when you meet Isabela, if I am not mistaken.

We have no idea where that is in relation to everything else. When Mike did that bit in the live show, he already had Varric in the party for instance.
