A new post by Andreas Papathanasis on the Bioware blog talks about the technology (graphics) of DA2.

Link

Technology was one of the major focus points of the programming team during the transition from Origins to Dragon Age II. After the art team presented us their vision for a rebooted art style, we spent a lot of time with them identifying the technology improvements that would best bring that art style forward.

In this post we’ll examine some of the base technology improvements to the engine. These improvements will be enjoyed by everyone who plays the game, regardless of whether they choose to play on PC with a DirectX 9 video card, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. On a subsequent post we’ll examine more advanced DirectX 11 technology that will be exclusive to higher end PCs.

Click the link above to read the rest of the article.

There are new screenshots as well [All DirectX 9]:

Ooooh, shiny!

I must say, some textures are meh, but the vistas kick ass. Overall, the game definitely looks better than Origins.

I'll admit it, I jumped the gun about the visual quality of the game 6 months ago when the game was first revealed to the GP.

Some great scenery here.

Not sure if I am too much of a fan of those huge anime swords though.

Oh what do I care, I won't be using them!

some are really damn good! For example the last one is breathtaking in detail :) I don't particulary like Hawke's staff tho...the robes are nice!

Those trees! They look like actual trees! You can't see the cutoff where the texture hits the edge of the triangle any more! OMG SO PRETTY!!!

Er, compared to Origins anyway. Verra nice.

They were that long in DAO. More than that, despite some scaling issues with the hilt (I imagine so it's on par with other 2H's like hammers), it's of accurate length to real greatswords. It is much wider, though.

Anyhow.

OMIGOSH IS SO PRETTY. :o

The mini-map is ten times (I did official calculations) better than the Origins mini-map.

Heeeey the guy on the right behind the candles. He kind of looks like Alistair! (His haircut and colour are the same, anyway)

It's looking good though- I can't wait :D

All I see are bricks. Everything's so square :/

A **** load of bricks and washed out textures here and there. Everything is clear cut - no blending in transition between elements. I do not know what to think...if it wasnt for BW storytelling I think I'd pass the game :(

And those 5-men-handers, lord!

Augh... Fire pit in the bar. No chimney?

I'm calling the Kirkwall Code Enforcement and the Kirkwall Civil Engineering and Planning department about this one.

*Edit*  Oh, right.  Pretty pictures.  I like the fabric banners with all the little holes in them.  I wonder if you look at it right you can see light coming through the holes? *end edit*
