so i have the contingency spell, and i have imoen cast it, but it only lets her pick offencive spells for some reason (there goes my auto defence spell idea), but thats fine right?
PROBLEM
TARGET = SELF.
what?
when you choose from the list i want spell x y and z
i want it cast whenever i see a monster
but then the third part (i want it cast on x) the only option is "on self"
why would i want to cast chromatic orb on self?? how to i get this to work like it should?

You can only choose spells that you currently have memorized. Also, you can't target monsters with Contingency, but you can when you get Chain Contingency. Since that's a level 9 spell, it will be a while before you get to it.

Sequencers are good too. Minor sequencer, Spell sequencer, and Spell trigger. I think I normally load acid arrows in the MS, 3x fireball in the SS, and 3x lower resistance in the ST for dragons. SCS2 on the other hand favours 3x flame arrow in the SS. Whichever you choose, try to lead with a greater malison.

Have you tried loading a spell into your contingency (without finalizing the spell) and unloading it again? Sometimes the game will not all spells you have memorized and this can work as an F5 button.

You can also WISH for a Chain Contingency (once per game)... add the 'Simulacrum' helm to double your firepower.
