 I have made  custom .dds with Changes to the typical commoner clothes.  All i really did was add a coat of arms to the breast.  It mirrors on both sides where i would rather have it on just the left breast but I will worry about that later.  It works in the toolset just fine, I have the clothing_variation_<var>.gda set up.  My problem is once it is imported in game the image gets wildly distorted.  if i walk away from the character it seems to get better but instantly distorts when i walk back to within a few feet.  Has anybody else experienced this problem.  I am going to attempt to post a screenshot of what it is doing but i guess i need to add a script to get the screenshots working.

Any thought would be appreciated.

The reason it changes when you move away is that you are hitting the LOD trigger distance where it is swapping to the LOD2 model, which uses a different, lower res, texture set. I gather you didn't modify these, so they will be the vanilla textures.

As for why your texture distorts, I'm unsure. If all you did was modify the diffuse texture then there's nothing that springs to mind that would cause the sort of thing you are describing. If you are using a new variation then you are using a custom-named model. Did you edit it in a 3D app at all? If so you may have screwed up the UVs. If you just manually renamed it or used DATool then this shouldn't be the issue. Post the contents of your MAO and your modified texture/s and detail all the steps you took.

While I was trying to figure out my problem I went back and redid everything on another model and it worked fine. So i have obviously did something wrong. I have checked my .mao several times and I am still trying to figure out what i did wrong. In this instance it was easier to redo the work and fix the problem but I am still trying to figure out what I did wrong.

Oh and by the way I just wanted to thank you Darth. I had done all three levels of detail originally and when you noted in your post that LOD2 was where the distortion stopped I reappraised my high detail. I replaced everything and that corrected the problem. I however still do not know what I did to cause it in the first place. I am still going over the mmh mao and psy as well as the originall dds but I can see nothing wrong. I will keep any interested informed.

The easiest way would be to just upload both sets of files for someone to look at. Failing that, all I can suggest is that you post the details of any differences you discover, however small they may seem.

Here are the file sin my high folder that do not work. I still have no idea why but i imagine it is something simple. I have another file there now that works just fine.

http://www.mediafire...7z5q7vhlvxb2p5j (the mao)

http://www.mediafire...b3bvwde8vw1rqm7 (the mmh)

http://www.mediafire...8v5i8b7b4x0zqdz (the psy)

http://www.mediafire...26p0nc8gzyjazby (the diffuse dds)

Good luck trying to figure out what I did wrong.

Then name field of your MAO is wrong:

<MaterialObject Name="PM_CTH_COMc">

instead of:

<MaterialObject Name="pm_cth_leoa">

But other than that nothing obvious leaps out. I wouldn't think that would cause the issue you describe. Possibly it was an issue with the way you saved the DDS. You could try substituting the old one for the new one but leaving everything else untouched and see if the problem resurfaces.
