It hasn't been properly edited yet (will be finished within the next few hours), but they've uploaded a "sneak peek" of raw demo footage (6 minutes) today:

Yes, this is 100% legit. No, I didn't create or upload it.

Bethany's and Carver's voice actors are crystal clear here, so our voice actor sleuths better get to it!

demo restrictions:

- no inventory access

- graphics locked at medium/console quality. Higher detail is DX11 exclusive. (probably some DX10 features too, doesn't specify)

Wow this is ****en stupid really there locking high settings to dx11 users only?

wtf i might as well buy it for consoles i only have dx10 since medium is same as consoles.

Or you could take a deep breath wait for Andreas' next blog at blog.bioware.com and see what he has to say about how DX affects the game.

It will ultimately look better on PC than consoles, even if all you're running is DX9. More details to come. Someday soon...
...ish.

As long as its just that. I thought he meant textures or something as in you can have good texture unless you have dx11 card which makes no sense so its just a thing where you enable dx11?

Not to spoil too much, but my home PC's card can only support up to the DX10 features (I expect many people will be in the same boat) and even then there was a notable difference in the visuals.

hey Mike can you spare a word on Bethany's VA?

"Professional."

She was great to work with. Easy going and really got into the character. Good at evoking emotion, too.

That's what you wanted to know, right?

Its like Bioware is trolling everyone that complained about that combat being dumbed down.

Us? Never.

We're simply getting you in the mood and letting you feel like THE CHAMPION for a little while, until we take it all away, of course. Because you guys are smart enough to what to know -everything-, just like Cass.

You? Always.

On a more serious note, why haven't you guys shut this down? Not that I'm complaining or everything, but I am curious.

Well, okay, occassionally. And I have no idea. There are whole groups that handle this sort of thing, and I suspect they're on top of it, if it's an issue, which I imagine it is.

I notice that experience isn't added until after the battle... is that just a delayed ticker that summarizes the XP from all of the baddies you killed, or has it been changed so that now you get experience for encounters rather than individual enemies?

Both, actually. Experience is granted per creature, but only finalized when combat mode ends. You also get a bit more for finishing everything in the encounter.

No offense Mr "Lead Designer" but this is what you should have been providing for PC users ****ing MONTHS ago, not 3 weeks before release and shove us off an old press build of a section of the game that isn't even representitive in part or whole of what the game is like.

I'm glad there's this video to watch, cause compared to what you've done with DA:O you've given us almost nothing to whet our appetite like you did with the first game, and frankly it's insulting.

Ah, there's nothing quite like a post the opens with no offense and then puts your title in quotes. Nothing could go downhill from there!

Regardless, I'm sorry you're offended at our release schedule for assets. Sometimes the realities of the game we're making do not allow us to release detailed videos multiple-asterisk months before the game is finished. And sometimes they allow us to release a demo before the game ships so that you can try it for yourself and make the most informed decision possible.

And if that doesn't soothe the offended feeling, not much is going to.

What purpose do the circles at the character's feet serve?

Identical to the rings they had in Origins to denote current target, seperate friendly from party from enemy and so on.

You can toggle them off on the PC, and toggle them on on the consoles, as you prefer. They ship off by default on consoles, since the targeting is fundamentally different, but they can still be turned on if you love em.

It's in the Geneva Conventions.

Right under the part about mustard gas, probably.

Anyway, I think we've seen a good exploration of both sides of the "was there enough information?" issue, so let's keep it on topic, as we have. I appreciate that, for the most part, we're already there.

Did you notice that the skills for 3 of the 6 trees are all locked?

Is this because its a demo or are those trees locked at this point of the retail version as well? Do we need to unlock those trees or is Bioware just not releasing all the info on the talents yet?

Only certain abilities are available in the demo.

Quick question: in DA:O, I always used to hate it that, when I was fighting enemies with NPCs, even if I had done a lot of damage against an enemy, if an NPC got the last kill, I never got the XP from that enemy. Is it the same in DA2?

All XP is player XP. Any place XP is granted, it is granted to the player. If an enemy dying gives XP, that XP goes to the player.

No, she doesn't. Your siblings and your mother match whatever you look like. So he got them wrong, too.

The fact that the situation is urgent limits how much talking you get to do.

Do companions gain XP only if they are with Hawke, like in DA:O, or are they always on the same level as Hawke, even if they are not part of the current party (as squad mates in ME 1 & 2 are)?

Companions have an XP value relative to the player, whether or not they're in the party. Having party members not gain XP makes them unusable after a certain point. They're too weak and too far behind to play an effective role and can't really catch up (unless XP is exponential, or there are other weird bonuses in the background which effectively fakes the same thing). We'd like players to be able to freely swap in party members based on personality or their role in the party, not because circumstance made them not use a character for a couple hours.

Excuse me Bioware but does it look like the enemies show up in batches? I noticed some of them just barge in in the middle of the fight... is that part of the whole "fight like a spartan" thing? because I sure never go in a battle without a strategy in-place, numbers and types of enemies are a major deciding factor in this and if I don't know them beforehand...well you get the idea, it completely requires me to change plans mid-fight which isn't a good idea.

Yes, fights can have multiple waves. Being able to adapt to changing battle conditions and enemy force composition is important in DA2.

Also kind of funny that Aveline killed the Ogre almost alone with potions. I know that's not supposed to be a hard setting but the ogre seemed to be weaker than Aveline. Well he didn't have potions though.

Also I didn't see any positioning. So I guess whether you get attacked from front or rear doesn't matter.

There were many combat balance changes since the build that was taken from. The Ogre is a bit weaker, and Aveline takes more damage.

Positioning determines if you get your flanking bonus. It's also significant for Shield Defense.
