And Aveline is awesome - I admit I was a bit on the fence about her just because she seemed rather bland in comparison to the other characters, but I am happy that it looks like I am definitely wrong

Well true, I wasn't suggesting to lead them or anything. But she could at least hold a club or something and help a bit. I mean her kids are fighting there.
Why would a trained fighter allow an untrained fighter to get in the middle of a fray?

That was the impression I got about Ostagar as well.
How did Momma Hawke raise three bad*ss kids w/out being a fighter or mage of some sort. <_<
Well, I it was mentioned a while back that Papa Hawke was an apostate mage. That explains Bethany and Mage Hawke's fighting abilties. Not sure about Warrior/Rogue Hawke, however. Leandra doesn't exactly look like the fighting type to me. But I could be wrong.

Actually they said they were running since Ostagar, which suggests they were there. I just don't get why Hawke's mom doesn't pick up a sword and beats on some darkspawn. Mom Cousland wasn't such a coward.test for echo wrote...

Carver says that he and hawkette have "been running since ostagar?" were they there?
I think he meant that they fled Lothering during or right after the battle at Ostagar. Since the darkspawn destroyed the town right after that.

I imagine their dad had a role in it.

On a more serious note, why haven't you guys shut this down? Not that I'm complaining or everything, but I am curious.
Well, okay, occassionally. And I have no idea. There are whole groups that handle this sort of thing, and I suspect they're on top of it, if it's an issue, which I imagine it is.
No offense Mr "Lead Designer" but this is what you should have been providing for PC users ****ing MONTHS ago, not 3 weeks before release and shove us off an old press build of a section of the game that isn't even representitive in part or whole of what the game is like.
I'm glad there's this video to watch, cause compared to what you've done with DA:O you've given us almost nothing to whet our appetite like you did with the first game, and frankly it's insulting.

Plus she's old and tied from running, but let that be.

It's more than likely their Dad who specifically did as much. Definitely not the same situation as Eleanor Cousland, which I don't mind at all.

Dad was a mage. He trained bethany. I doubt he was a Arcane Warrior (seeing as that seems restricted to the Warden and his followers). Since mages can't even equip swords in this setting. <_<

Why would a mother stand at the side and watch her kids be slaughtered by darkspawn not doing anything? Far as I know either Carver or Beth die and the templar as well. And if not for Flemeth they all died. It would be different if it were a sort of fair fight, they are outnumbered by far. If I remember the side quest in DA:O where you rescue the refuguees they are 6 unarmed peasants who fight darkspawn with their fists. Just standing there and not doing anything to help just seems wrong.Saibh wrote...

You need to work on your snark a great deal. It does take lots of practice to show snark and make an intelligent comment. You'll get there someday, keep trying!

You do realize that Mr. Laidlaw has little say in marketing and the awesome publicity you have seen unfold is under the charge of the Bioware Marketing Department?

Not really.. She's old enough. Besides this is a middle ages like setting. I imagine she got with papa hawke and had her kids when she was like 16 years old or something.

I'm sorry, when are you ever guaranteed a demo? When do you ever deserve it? You don't. Be happy they released it.
Second of all, it makes way more sense to release a demo after the game has gone gold. You know. After it's completed. That way everyone is playing the final model. Three months ago was not the final model. And who says this is an old press build? The press builds didn't let you play as a mage until the demo became the Isabela mission.
Third, why do PC users somehow deserve it before anyone else?
DA:O had a development time of six years. And, you know what? They don't have to tell you jack. I'm quite happy about the amount of information they released. DAO and ME2 were almost completely spoiled. God forbid there's ever any question about what we see. As for gameplay, they have been telling us a lot.

As the lead designer he should have some say, especially after that terrible "the new ****" marketing campaign from the first game.

Maybe she did try. Maybe her her kids told her to stay the hell back, mom, you'll be in our way.
She would cause a lot more damage then good if she didn't run and hide. They'd have to protect her. She'd get in their way.
